Ling Tian Sword God

Chapter 1439: Chapter 1438: Accepting the Trial

Judging from the current situation, his heart nature, in Cloud Monarch’s eyes, should already be up to standard.

However, regarding this talk of heart nature from Cloud Monarch, Ling Chen inwardly quite agreed. As for his own heart nature, there was no need to say more; just speaking of that so‑called heart of friendship and affection—if a person lives in this world only for himself, caring nothing for others, then what difference is there between him and a beast?

Even if one stands at the very peak, in the end that is still loneliness. In Ling Chen’s view, the two characters ”feeling” and ”righteousness” are two things he cannot be without to stand in this world; and in Cloud Monarch’s view, they are a part of heart nature.

In truth, the two are just different paths leading to the same result.

”Next, we’ll begin the inheritance process. But how much you can grasp from it... that will depend on your own ability!”

Cloud Monarch did not say anything more. He suddenly waved his hand, and the entire space once again turned into Darkness. It was as if his consciousness was completely numbed, and only then did it suddenly brighten, restoring the Light.

At the instant of contact, the consciousness in Ling Chen’s mind violently trembled. Before his eyes, it was as if endless streaks of light and shadow swept past.

As the light and shadow flashed by, an image appeared in front of Ling Chen. Within it was a cyan‑robed middle‑aged Male in white; a Treasure Sword hung at his waist, and his brows bore some resemblance to Ling Chen’s, yet revealed even sharper edges. His expression was somewhat stern, and beside him stood an extremely beautiful woman in white. At this moment she was looking at Ling Chen with gentle, doting eyes.

”Father... Mother...”

The memories from the deepest part of his mind were pulled forth. Ling Chen stared blankly at the two people before him, and a tremendous sour ache violently surged into his heart, causing his eyes to redden. These two, without a doubt, were his parents, Ling Tianyu and Liu Xiling!

”Chen’er, the Swordsmanship that I taught you, have you been properly Cultivating it?”

”Your child has been practicing all along. I’ll perform it for Father right now!”

”Chen’er, don’t push yourself too hard, you must take care of your body.”

The face of the woman in white grew even softer.

Ling Chen’s eyes were already completely moist. All these years he had worked so hard on his Cultivation, enduring so many hardships and tempers—wasn’t all of this just so he could become strong, so that their family could reunite?

”Kid, your cultivation is still not enough...”

Apparently aware that Ling Chen had sunk into the Illusory Realm he had created, Cloud Monarch couldn’t help but shake his head. The Illusory Realm he planted into Ling Chen was an extremely long process.

This process contained a person’s entire life—birth, aging, sickness, and death.

Only by completely passing through the entire process he had set could Ling Chen touch upon his Martial Arts.

If Ling Chen became lost in any one stage within, then he would be unable to enter the next stage.

In Cloud Monarch’s eyes, Ling Chen, for the time being, would likely remain confined to this first, youthful stage.

If so, then Ling Chen’s chances of failure were extremely high.

At this time, in the palace hall outside, Cyan-robed Guest and Hong Ye had already opened their eyes and risen from their meditation cushions.

The two of them saw Ling Chen, who was still in a meditative state, and a look of astonishment surfaced in their eyes. Although they too had entered meditation for a period of time, they had gained nothing at all in that space of Darkness, and in the end were jolted awake by a certain will, naturally regaining their clarity.

Looking at Ling Chen’s appearance now, he clearly was different from them; he had already begun receiving Cloud Monarch’s inheritance.

”This kid really has good luck.”

The corner of Cyan-robed Guest’s mouth lifted slightly, yet in his eyes there was not the slightest hint of jealousy.

Hong Ye was inwardly extremely astonished as well, and her admiration for Ling Chen now reached the point of complete prostration. Cloud Monarch had set such difficult trials to test these latecomers; to obtain his inheritance was an unimaginably arduous task, yet Ling Chen had actually accomplished it.

But just at this moment, Ling Chen’s expression suddenly turned agonized; his whole body began to convulse, and two lines of tears unexpectedly trickled from the corners of his eyes.

”What’s happening to him?”

Hong Ye anxiously looked at Ling Chen before her, his eyes closed, at this moment appearing extremely fragile. From their first meeting, this fellow had been as unyielding as a stone; even when facing the ferocious Ghost Gods like Hundred-Eyed Demon and Green-faced Ghost, he had dared to harbor killing intent, utterly fearless. Yet now, his expression was like that of a wounded child, making one’s heart ache.

She hurriedly pulled Ling Chen into her arms. Hong Ye could feel the chill of Ling Chen’s body temperature, and couldn’t help but look toward Cyan-robed Guest beside her. ”Senior, quickly think of something!”

Cyan-robed Guest slightly furrowed his brows, then crouched down as well, extending two fingers to press between Ling Chen’s brows. After only a brief moment, Cyan-robed Guest withdrew his hand and shook his head. ”He should be trapped in a certain powerful Illusory Realm. The one who laid down such an Illusory Realm must be Cloud Monarch. This is Cloud Monarch’s trial for him—no one can help him.”

Hong Ye bit down on her silver teeth. ”Then are we just supposed to watch him suffer?”

”There’s no need to worry. Cloud Monarch won’t go so far as to take his life. If he can’t withstand the trial, he should wake up after a while.”

Cyan-robed Guest stood up, then looked at Hong Ye with indifferent eyes. ”Since this kid is your master, if he dies, you’ll regain your freedom. Why bother worrying about him?”

Hearing this, Hong Ye did not answer. In her heart she had long since shaken her head, for she had already made her decision—she would follow Ling Chen for the rest of this life.

Within the Illusory Realm.

Ling Chen still wore the appearance of a youth. He stood alone in that courtyard, admiring every blade of grass and every tree around him, as if he wanted to imprint all of this into his mind.

”Chen’er, what are you doing?”

Just then, Liu Xiling walked over from behind, looking at Ling Chen in surprise.

Ling Chen said, ”I’m trying my best to remember this place, to remember everything that has happened here.”

”Why would you do something so foolish?”

A charming smile appeared on Liu Xiling’s face. Her jade hand rested atop Ling Chen’s head as she softly said, ”Our family living together like this, peacefully and well—what’s wrong with that?”

”Of course it’s good. I dream of living together with you.”

A faint smile surfaced on Ling Chen’s face. ”But I still have more important things to do.”

”More important things?”

”I’m going to meet the real you, and the real Father. You’re still waiting for me.”

Ling Chen placed both hands on Liu Xiling’s cheeks. ”So... I’m sorry, Mother...”

As his words fell, a sharp light suddenly surged in Ling Chen’s eyes. In the next moment, an extremely fierce aura erupted from his body, sweeping across the entire courtyard in an instant!

At the moment that savage intent spread, Liu Xiling, along with all the surrounding scenery, completely dispersed and vanished without a trace.

”Father, Mother, we’ll be meeting again very soon.”

Ling Chen murmured softly. He knew that all of this was flowers in a mirror, the moon in the water. The reason he had chosen to linger in it was only because he wanted to stay a little longer with Ling Tianyu and Liu Xiling. But falsehood is falsehood after all; everything here was far too perfect. In the end he still had to return to the real world and do what he must do.

Ling Chen believed that the day of his reunion with Liu Xiling and Ling Tianyu would definitely not be too far away.
