A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Asking Her to Be a Spokesperson for Arguments

”Camp Commander Lu is now married, and Li Lu provoked Camp Commander Lu’s wife, thinking she would voluntarily step back, but she was so stunned by the wife’s comeback that she couldn’t say anything back. Then she got caught by the head nurse, who didn’t give her any face and reported straight to Minister Li.” The nurse heard everything clearly that day.

Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao’s delicate appearance, she thought Fu Xiaoxiao would be bullied to tears. She never imagined Fu Xiaoxiao was secretly formidable—her words left Li Lu so speechless that she just pointed at people, her embarrassed face was truly satisfying to behold.

She decided she wanted to learn from her; with a tongue like that, what would she have to fear from being verbally defeated ever again?

”Li Lu’s mistake was intentional; the head nurse hates homewreckers the most.” The other nurses all felt Li Lu deserved it.

”Why?” someone asked curiously.

”Because...” Just as she was about to explain, the nurse looked up and saw the very person they were discussing. ”Uh...”

”Hello, I’m here to pick up the medicine for Lu Feng.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at the nurse who spotted her.

The nurses froze, and then scattered pretending to be ’busy.’

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled; sure enough, when people are awkward, they pretend to be busy.

”Uh, I’ll go get it for you right now, just wait a moment.” The nurse who had been speaking with enthusiasm now laughed awkwardly.

When she returned with the tray, Fu Xiaoxiao took it with a smile and was ready to leave when the nurse thought it over and caught up to her.

”Hey, comrade, I have an unreasonable request! Can you help me?” The nurse grabbed Fu Xiaoxiao’s sleeve and whispered.

”Is there something I can help you with?” Fu Xiaoxiao was startled. How could she help her?

”I heard you shut Li Lu down yesterday, and I figured you could definitely help me... Oh, I’m Lin Xue, a nurse here.” Lin Xue pointed to herself and quickly introduced herself to Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Then tell me?” Fu Xiaoxiao was curious about what she might be able to help with.

”Well... I want you to go with me to my brother-in-law’s house; my sister is too soft and always gets bullied by them.” Lin Xue looked at Fu Xiaoxiao hopefully.

”It’s just my sister and me at home, and she practically raised me. To give me an education, she married and used the dowry for my school fees; for this, her husband’s family bullies her.” Lin Xue’s eyes reddened. ”Whenever I see my sister being bullied, I want to yell at them, but I’m not eloquent, and after saying a couple of things, they shut me down...”

Lin Xue never hated being ineloquent more, watching her sister get bullied and being incapable of reprimanding them on her behalf.

”Are you... asking me to criticize them for you?” Fu Xiaoxiao blinked. This was quite the novel task—interesting.

”I know it’s kind of impositional, I... I...” Lin Xue understood that speaking abruptly might annoy someone, but she genuinely had no other way.

”I’ll take on this task.” Fu Xiaoxiao lifted her eyes to Lin Xue with a smile; she accepted the task.

”Really?” Lin Xue looked up in disbelief.

”My name is Fu Xiaoxiao. When are you visiting your sister?” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and asked.

”I... I’m off the day after tomorrow.” Lin Xue looked at Fu Xiaoxiao with anticipation.

”Alright, wait for me at the ward then.” Fu Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement.

”Thank you, thank you.” Lin Xue happily grabbed Fu Xiaoxiao and shook her hand continuously.

After agreeing with Lin Xue, Fu Xiaoxiao returned to the ward.

”Lu Feng, time to change your dressing.” Fu Xiaoxiao walked to the bedside with the tray.

Lu Feng’s ears burned.

He awkwardly pulled down his blanket while Lu Chen standing next to him curiously widened his eyes as Fu Xiaoxiao slowly removed the bandages and nodded upon seeing the scab forming.

”It’s much better, in a few days it’ll be healed.” Fu Xiaoxiao said lightly smiling, while disinfecting.

”...Hmm.” A suppressed grunt echoed.

Fu Xiaoxiao was suddenly taken aback by the deep voice that exploded near her ear—it was so alluring! So pleasant.

Blushing slightly, Fu Xiaoxiao bandaged up the wound and quickly left the ward, carrying the tray.

Lu Chen looked at Lu Feng who was hiding under the blankets and at Fu Xiaoxiao who escaped the ward, glancing left, glancing right.

What just happened?

Why were their reactions so strange?

Returning the tray to the nurse station, Fu Xiaoxiao was about to leave when a figure suddenly grabbed her hand, making her pause. Just as she was about to struggle, she heard the person’s voice.

”Sorry, comrade, didn’t mean to scare you.” It was Xiao Heng who took Fu Xiaoxiao away.

”You’re Xiao Heng, right? Do you need something?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked, puzzled.

What’s so important he had to drag her to this corner?

”Could you... buy me two fever-reducing pills?” Xiao Heng looked urgently distressed, and Fu Xiaoxiao noticed he didn’t seem sick.

If someone else is ill, they can buy medicine themselves unless... that person cannot come, or they’re unwilling to be seen.

”I can’t tell you who, but they’re seriously ill and have a high fever that’s not going down; if untreated, it might be fatal.” Xiao Heng turned to Fu Xiaoxiao, anxious.

”I’ve already bought two pills this month, and they want me to provide proof to get more; I really have no other options.” Xiao Heng recalled his grandfather’s suffering and looked to Fu Xiaoxiao, feeling she was trustworthy and wouldn’t report him.

”Wait for me a while.” Noticing his urgency, Fu Xiaoxiao told him to wait as she went to purchase fever pills and some glucose under her name.

Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao return with the items, Xiao Heng’s eyes brimmed with excitement at the sight of the fever pills in her hand.

”Here, these are the fever pills. Only take one at a time. This is glucose; if they haven’t eaten for a long time they might have low blood sugar, so they can drink some to regain energy.” Fu Xiaoxiao handed the items to Xiao Heng.

”Thank you, anything you need in the future, feel free to find me in Upper River Village. I will certainly repay this kindness.” Xiao Heng stuffed his five yuan into Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand and hurriedly ran off with the supplies.

Fu Xiaoxiao shrugged and turned to the ward.

”Aunt Fu, why did you take so long to come back? I was getting worried and about to find you.” Lu Chen said, surprisingly sensible for his age.

”Just chatted with the nurse a bit.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and told Lu Feng about Lin Xue asking her to help out with the verbal confrontation.

”You can actually do that?” Lu Feng, hearing about hiring someone to help argue, was a first for him.

While unsure about how sharp Fu Xiaoxiao is with words, being specially asked just to help must mean she’s skilled.

”I thought it was quite interesting, so I agreed.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at Lu Feng, who naturally didn’t oppose.

”Let Xiao Lu accompany you then, in case the family gets angry and lashes out physically.” Lu Feng advised.

”Thank you.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled slightly.

A good boss is a good boss—so considerate of subordinates, even assigning security, and accompanying for safety.
