A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Aunt Li’s Guilty Conscience

”First of all, the two kids didn’t catch bugs, but bee pupae, and they must have put in a lot of effort to catch them,” Fu Xiaoxiao picked up what Aunt Li called bugs, which were clearly just harmless bee pupae.

After all, bees are much more poisonous. If they really wanted to harm her, they could have just brought bees, so why go through all the trouble to get these bee pupae?

”Secondly, what did you say to them this morning? Please tell us clearly, otherwise you wouldn’t think that the two kids went out just to catch bugs to scare you.” Fu Xiaoxiao’s sharp question left Aunt Li stunned, her face turning red with embarrassment.

She couldn’t possibly say that she told those two little brats that their father was about to marry a stepmother, and by then they wouldn’t have a place in the family, and the stepmother would definitely kick out such unpleasant kids from home...

”Camp Commander Lu, who is this?” Afraid to answer, Aunt Li turned to look at Lu Feng, hinting for him to intervene.

”This is my wife, Fu Xiaoxiao,” Lu Feng introduced Aunt Li, and because of the question Fu Xiaoxiao just raised, Lu Feng also became suspicious of Aunt Li.

His eyes swept across the house. Although bee pupae were scattered all over the floor, there was a bamboo sieve not far away, with many bee pupae on it, which didn’t quite match Aunt Li’s claim that they were deliberately used to scare her.

”Aunt Li, can you please explain?” Fu Xiaoxiao took a step forward, looking Aunt Li directly in the eyes.

”I’ve already said, if you think those two kids are easy to take care of, you take care of them yourself. I’m not serving anymore.” Aunt Li, angry and embarrassed, waved her hand and stormed out. ”If Camp Commander Lu hadn’t begged me, you think this old lady would have come? From now on, no matter how you ask, I won’t come.”

Fu Xiaoxiao watched her flee with a guilty conscience, snorted lightly, and walked into the house.

Lu Feng glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao, carried the luggage into the house, and saw that Fu Xiaoxiao was carefully picking up the scattered bee pupae and putting them back on the bamboo sieve.

”Where did you find this person?” Fu Xiaoxiao put the bee pupae away and looked back at Lu Feng.

Lu Feng carried Fu Xiaoxiao’s luggage into the room, looking at the messy room that didn’t seem to have been tidied up, completely different from its clean and neat appearance when he usually came home.

”Found in the neighboring village, one cent a day,” Lu Feng replied honestly.

Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at him and said nothing.

His face practically read ’big fool’.

Lu Feng touched his nose, knowing he indeed wasn’t good at taking care of kids. He was a bachelor himself, often on missions, and the two kids had indeed been neglected.

”Where do I live?” Fu Xiaoxiao also didn’t say much. After all, Lu Feng was doing his best, and since she had agreed to his conditions, the matter of the two kids was now her responsibility.

”You live in this room; I’m across from you, and the kids’ room is next door.” Lu Feng took out a key and opened a door that had been locked, introducing it to Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Looks like you were well prepared.” As soon as Fu Xiaoxiao entered the room, she saw brand new furniture, which seemed to have been made not long ago. Even the bedding was new.

Lu Feng nodded. He had gone on blind dates with this goal in mind, naturally not wanting to treat the woman poorly. Having everything prepared, he could go on missions with peace of mind.

”By the way, here’s the 300 yuan dowry I promised. I’ve already asked the commander for three turns and a sound. Here are my remaining tickets and money. I get an 80 yuan monthly allowance, all for you,” Lu Feng took out a metal box and handed it to Fu Xiaoxiao.

Inside was his entire fortune, including all his bonuses and tickets.

”Every month, you get 40 yuan. You can buy whatever you like, and the remaining 40 yuan is for living expenses for you and the two kids.” Lu Feng tried his best to arrange things for Fu Xiaoxiao.

Hearing she would get 40 yuan a month, Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes lit up.

”Rest assured, I’ll definitely take good care of these two kids, raise them chubby.” Fu Xiaoxiao patted her chest, promising.

”Thank you.” Lu Feng was dazzled by her bright eyes. Others thought it wasn’t good to marry someone like him, but she made him feel cherished. Even though she couldn’t have her own kids and had to look after two kids, she willingly accepted.

”For... ahem, leave it to me!” Fu Xiaoxiao almost blurted out ’Serve the People’, her ingrained DNA almost slipping out.

”Then pack your things away. I’ll take you to meet the commander,” Lu Feng nodded to her and left the room.

Looking at her suddenly wealthy little treasury, Fu Xiaoxiao was filled with admiration for her ’new boss’, appreciating a boss who didn’t say much and was generous with money.

Using Lu Feng’s money and tickets as household funds, Fu Xiaoxiao planned to keep a daily account, tracking all expenses for future reconciliation with her boss.

After packing her stuff into the closet, Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the room specially prepared for her and felt more satisfied with Lu Feng.

Room and board included, high salary, and the boss was often not at home.

Leaving the room, Lu Feng was waiting at the door. Fu Xiaoxiao approached him.

”Let’s go, the commander is waiting for us.”

-

Lu Feng took Fu Xiaoxiao to the commander’s office, and Fu Xiaoxiao suddenly felt like she was meeting the in-laws.

Especially when the commander looked at her with the eyes of an in-law, then changed to sympathy and doubt after seeing her face.

The doubt was directed at Lu Feng.

”You, come out with me.” Liu Hongjun gestured for Lu Feng to follow him out. Lu Feng gave Fu Xiaoxiao a reassuring look and followed him out.

Leaving Fu Xiaoxiao alone in the office.

Fu Xiaoxiao was attracted by the map on the wall, wanting to take a closer look, when she heard Liu Hongjun’s suppressed anger outside.

”Did you deceive that young woman? With her conditions, becoming a stepmother for you? What are you thinking?” Liu Hongjun, upon seeing Fu Xiaoxiao’s appearance, became suspicious of Lu Feng, wondering if he had deceived her. Otherwise, with Fu Xiaoxiao’s good appearance, what kind of man couldn’t she choose?

Fu Xiaoxiao paused, unable to help but laugh.

”No, she agreed to it.” Lu Feng was also puzzled, but after hearing about Fu Xiaoxiao’s family situation, he understood why she was in such a hurry to marry.

”You really didn’t trick her?” Liu Hongjun pursed his lips. If Lu Feng wasn’t a soldier he trained personally, he’d really have someone investigate him.

”Really didn’t.” Lu Feng said seriously.

”Such a good woman marrying you is a waste,” Liu Hongjun glared at Lu Feng disapprovingly, feeling increasingly that his soldier didn’t match her. ”You’re about to go on a mission, not knowing when you’ll be back, ensure you’ve left enough money and tickets for her.”

”... I already did.” Lu Feng obediently stood in front of Liu Hongjun, listening to his reprimand.

Seeing that Lu Feng had arranged everything, Liu Hongjun finally let him go, taking him back to the office where he took out their marriage certificate.

”Comrade Fu, this kid Lu Feng is a soldier I personally trained. He’s like half a son to me. If you ever need anything, feel free to find me, don’t be afraid.” Liu Hongjun said kindly to Fu Xiaoxiao.
