Chapter 1605: Section 1606 Semi-finals

The next day.

Angel visited Fangling Hall again.

Today is the semi-finals of the Newcomerʼs Tournament, divided into two matches; in the morning, Xiliu will battle Onassis, and in the afternoon, Asaz will face Trom. Although Angel still believes that Xiliuʼs chances of winning arenʼt high, he still intends to go watch.

When he arrived at Fangling Hall, Xiliu surprisingly was already awake, but she looked still very groggy.

Angel inquired about Xiliuʼs tactics, but her response was rather clueless.

“Tactics… havenʼt thought about it. Iʼve already heard of Onassisʼs abilities, and I have no idea how to fight him; Iʼll just see how things go at that time,” she said.

This fit Xiliuʼs character quite well. As a Talented One with the ability to alter the properties of water, she might also inherit some of waterʼs will. She is not fond of fighting by nature, and for her, reaching the semi-finals was beyond expectations. Even if she were to be eliminated at this stage, it would have already been worth it.

Angel didnʼt say much more. If he were in Xiliuʼs position, he wouldnʼt know how to deal with Onassis either. Moreover, the outcome of a battle is often unpredictable, and sometimes itʼs better to adapt on the fly.

After a brief conversation with Xiliu, Angel found Allen.

Allen was sitting by the window ledge, a stalk of snow grass that produced a copious amount of refreshing icy water in his mouth, gazing into the azure sky lost in thought.

It was only when Angel approached that Allen belatedly turned his head.

“Iʼve already asked around for news about Irene,” Angel said, getting straight to the point. Allenʼs expression slowly gained focus from its previous daze.

“Where is she now? Is she still in Sky Mechanical City?” Allen asked with a face full of anticipation.

Angel shook his head: “I donʼt know if sheʼs here, but according to the information Iʼve got, Irene did not participate in the Newcomerʼs Tournament.”

Allen asked, puzzled: “Didnʼt participate?”

“Yes, at least thereʼs no record of her in Sky Mechanical Cityʼs Sky Tower or Infinite Battle Tower. Perhaps there are records of her participating at the Sky Tower of White Coral Floating Island Academy, but as you know, the information of different Sky Towers cannot be shared in real time.”

This was the message Glenn had sent him in the morning. There was no need for Glenn to deceive him, so it was certain that Irene had not participated in the Newcomerʼs Tournament of Sky Mechanical City.

But whether she had come here was a different story. After all, Sky Mechanical City is not only a hub of financial flow; the population movement is also very frequent.

After hearing this, the hopeful gleam in Allenʼs eyes dimmed once again.

If he had not received the message about Irene participating in the Newcomerʼs Tournament, he might not have cared whether Irene came to Sky Mechanical City or not. Unfortunately, Moro had sent the message… Now that Irene has not arrived for the tournament, Allen is even more worried that something unexpected might have happened to her on the way.

Seeing Allenʼs worried appearance, Angel thought for a moment and took out a communicator to contact Glenn.

After a while, Angel said to Allen: “If youʼre really concerned, you can go to this address to find a Wizard Apprentice named Glenn. He can grant you access to the Signal Tower to contact people from White Coral Floating Island Academy. You can use it to reach out to Moro and inquire about the specific situation with Irene.”

Angel wrote a row of addresses on a slip of paper and handed it over to Allen.

“However, if you want to use the Signal Tower, youʼll need to bear the cost yourself.”

Allen took the paper, his face showing immense gratitude as he incessantly thanked Angel. As a former culinary Apprentice who had worked at the Butterfly Tavern, he could certainly afford the Signal Towerʼs fees. Unfortunately, he no longer had the privilege to use the Signal Tower. Now that Angel had helped him secure this opportunity, he was truly thankful.

After receiving the slip of paper, Allen immediately said his goodbyes and hurriedly left Fangling Hall.

After Allen left, everyone from Fangling Hall, including Serum, came out from their rooms and headed to the Infinite Battle Tower to cheer for Xiliu.

Upon reaching the Infinite Battle Tower, Angel parted ways with them. He planned to observe as a special judge this time and also wanted to hear what the other members of the judging panel thought of Onassis.

The much-anticipated semifinal match kicked off at ten oʼclock in the morning.

To Angelʼs surprise, among the permanent judges, he saw an old acquaintance, Midoraʼs disciple– “Mad Bear” Sabo, once again.

Sabo actively moved his seats suspended in mid-air closer to where Angel was. Before Angel could speak, Sabo said, “I thought you would only come for the final match, but I didnʼt expect you to be a judge today.”

“Iʼm quite curious about this Onassis, so I came to watch. Plus, his opponent is from Barbarian Cave, so I naturally pay more attention.” Angel paused before asking Sabo, “Speaking of which, whatʼs your take on Onassis?”

Upon mentioning Onassis, Sabo sighed and shook his head, “His ability is too peculiar, yet it doesnʼt seem like a Talent. I have some speculations, but canʼt confirm them.”

“Using philosophy as a spear?” Angel tentatively asked.

Sabo was somewhat surprised, and he nodded, “Exactly, we suspect that he uses philosophy as his means of attack, but Iʼve never heard of such an ability, so I canʼt be sure.”

Angel: “The world is full of strange and quirky abilities, wielding the spear of philosophy is indeed possible. Just like if there had never been a Magic Painter Wizard, who would know that a painted plane could also form its own realm?”

“True, but to walk such a unique path, with no predecessors to guide, one can only forge their own path through thorns. Yet Onassisʼ courage is something I admire,” Sabo sighed.

“You just said that you still canʼt confirm his ability. Havenʼt you asked those who have competed against Onassis?” Angel asked with curiosity.

Sabo: “Of course, we asked, but everyone is baffled. Speaking of which, my unworthy disciple also fought against Onassis.”

“Are you referring to Bismarck?”

Sabo nodded, “Bismarck also returned to Sky Mechanical City this time to participate in the new star competition, but he didnʼt even pass the preliminary round. The main reason was that he encountered Onassis.”

After the match against Onassis, Bismarck had no clue what had happened.

He vaguely remembered that during the match, he suddenly had the desire to seek “freedom”.

And this freedom wasnʼt the kind one would understand in the literal sense, but rather meant to completely rid himself of his physical form, even freeing himself from his brain, as he felt even his own thoughts were confined.

If not for the timely discovery by the medical team, he might have already harmed himself.

“What happened after that?”

“Thereʼs nothing after that, Bismarck forgot what happened during the match afterward, and only had some vague impressions. Thatʼs for the better, to avoid getting trapped in inscrutable philosophical speculation and being unable to extricate himself.”

It is precisely because the contestants mostly forget what occurred on the stage after the match that it is difficult to discern his exact ability.

But it was mainly confirmed within the scope of “using philosophy as a means of attack”.

“Perhaps Hydra knows something? However, even though Hydra attends every match, he rarely talks about Onassis in the judging panel.” Sabo said this and glanced at Hydra not far away.

Hydra remained with his eyes closed, but he seemed to sense Saboʼs gaze, turned his head toward Angelʼs direction, and nodded slightly as a greeting.

Angel was about to continue inquiring about Onassisʼ match when, at that moment, the light screen above the arena displayed… the match was over.
