Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1352: Section 1353 Cat Lamp Witch

The outcome of Arena 7 held no suspense, and amidst the Sword of Conviction’s dark expression, the referee declared “Scorpion” the winner.

The match wasn’t very interesting, and towards the end, even Lyon couldn’t help but yawn repeatedly.

Nevertheless, as it was the first match, Angel racked his brains and still managed to summarize a few points, “When you’re strong enough, using an ox-cleaver to kill a chicken can still be appropriate.”

The second match was at Arena 18.

When they arrived, they “just happened” to see Glenn standing at the entrance of the spectator tunnel. Seeing them come, Glenn immediately approached, “I just got here and was thinking whether I might run into you guys. I didn’t expect to actually meet you. How about we go together?”

Angel didn’t believe Glenn’s words. Lyon originally had no particular feelings about Glenn, but now he also felt something was off. With people coming and going in Arena 18’s spectator tunnel, Glenn just standing alone at the entrance didn’t look like a ‘coincidental meeting’ at all, it obviously looked like a blatant lie.

Lyon wanted to secretly hint to Angel to refuse Glenn’s request. However, before his hint could be conveyed, Angel nodded, “Alright.”

With a positive answer received, Glenn immediately broke into a radiant smile.

There were ten minutes left before the fight started, but when they entered, they found the seats were almost full.

Seeing this, Glenn frowned slightly, “I asked a few friends to save seats for me earlier. You guys wait here; I’ll go check.”

Having said that, Glenn walked off in a certain direction.

After Glenn left, Lyon immediately said, “There’s something off about this guy. You should have refused him before, shouldn’t you?”

Angel responded with a counter-question instead of an answer, “Did you see where he went just now?”

Lyon was momentarily stunned. He had been too focused on talking to Angel and hadn’t noticed where Glenn went.

“He went towards the backstage where the staff are located,” Angel replied. “I have seen him before, and at that time, he seemed to have some connection with a high-ranking witch from Sky Mechanical City. It seems I was right.”

“You mean he’s from Sky Mechanical City, and he approached you on purpose?” Lyon frowned.

“I’m not sure of his purpose, but since this man is from Sky Mechanical City, he likely knows a lot of information,” Angel said. “That’s also why I didn’t refuse him.”

Lyon hadn’t yet grasped what Angel was getting at, but at that moment, Glenn had already returned quickly, and Lyon had to stop talking for the time being.

“I’ve spoken to my friends; there are three spots over there. Come with me,” Glenn said.

In the crowded competition arena, Glenn miraculously led them to three vacant seats in a section with an excellent view of the fight.

Angel didn’t concern himself with how these seats came to be available; he just quietly listened to Glenn’s explanations.

Glenn had been incessantly sharing insights, primarily about the competitors in this match.

After listening for a while, Lyon found himself getting confused, mainly because Glenn was using too many technical terms.

In this situation, Lyon could only focus his attention on the platform.

Not long ago, a thunderous wave of cheering erupted from the stands as both competitors took the stage.

The screen above displayed the countdown: “Birdcage vs Delusion, five minutes left until the battle begins!”

The audience overwhelmingly supported “Birdcage,” and Lyon also studied the highly popular female apprentice carefully. It had to be said, there was indeed a reason for Birdcage’s popularity.

Extremely beautiful, albeit in a wickedly attractive way.

Her attire was reminiscent of a circus clown, flamboyantly colorful with bold contrasting colors, yet not cumbersome. The most striking part of her ensemble was her hairstyle, brown hair arranged into the shape of a birdcage that extended down to her neck, entirely encasing her head within the birdcage-like pattern.

“No wonder she’s called Birdcage,” Lyon realized at that moment.

Opposite Birdcage, the other contestant—Delusion—was much more low-key by contrast. Standing quietly on the other end of the platform, black mists roiled around him, concealing his specifics. Although Delusion wasn’t as flashy as Birdcage, Lyon felt an almost imperceptible menace emanating from him.

This fight looked to be more exciting than the previous one.

While Lyon didn’t know who would win, his anticipation slowly climbed to a peak.

With one minute left on the countdown, the cheers from the stands were deafening. In such a din, Glenn too had to temporarily suppress his passion for commentary.

Glenn felt a sense of regret about not finishing what he was saying. Angel actually felt regret too, for he had learned a lot of useful information from listening to Glenn.

After Glenn finished discussing the competitors in this match, he began to talk informally about various seeded contestants in the new star competition. While Angel had intentionally been listening for information, and Glenn, speaking on his own initiative, made Angel all too willing to listen.

Although the seeded contestants mentioned by Glenn didn’t include the familiar names David, Serum, and Nausicaa, Angel still heard a familiar name among those mentioned—the Cat Lamp Witch.

The so-called Cat Lamp Witch was actually the only disciple of Lord Kanter: Qi Li Rodland Lilith.

The nickname Cat Lamp came about because she always carried a lamp into the matches and was accompanied by a Black Cat, a name given by the audience. Qi Li’s actual nickname was “Dark Fire.”

According to Glenn, Qi Li had only arrived at Sky Mechanical City to participate in the matches in recent days. Since Qi Li has never taken part in Sky Tower before, and her last trip to Purification Garden was by invitation from Kanter, she needed to start from the first level if she wanted to join the new star competition.

Even though Sky Tower is open all day, due to the relatively short competition time, Qi Li was still on the seventh floor.

But Qi Li’s name had already spread far and wide because she had taken less than a week to climb from the first to the seventh floor without a single defeat.

According to Glenn, Qi Li was still waiting for a battle on the seventh floor.

Upon hearing this, Angel thought that after the competition ended, he could go and meet with Qi Li.

“The competition begins——” At that moment, the referee’s horn sounded, and the competition on platform number 18 finally commenced!

Angel also turned his attention to the arena.

Though the Birdcage’s form was unique, Angel had seen too many strange people, so he only glanced at her briefly before turning his focus to the other contender, Delusion.

In Glenn’s words, Delusion was the seed player he highly praised, one with the potential to break through the New Star contest. Like Qi Li, he had never climbed the Sky Tower before and had to start from the first floor; this was also Delusion’s first match.

Upon observing the two players, Angel also made a judgment in his heart.

Delusion was now a third-level Apprentice, and possibly at the peak of Apprentice level. The Birdcage, although quite strong and having reached the second level of Apprentice, had virtually no chance of turning the tables when facing Delusion.

As Angel was making his verdict in his mind, the match had already started.

The Birdcage pulled out two colorful rods that resembled a clown’s props and with agile twirls of her hands, a burst of radiant colors erupted.

The resplendent display drew cheers from the audience.

The Birdcage enjoyed the attention of the crowd, her figure swiftly moving across the platform like lightning, while the mesmerizing glow was cast towards Delusion.

Angel was somewhat surprised to see this. Because of the countdown, the players in the arena would all time their moves, constructing spell models in advance in the Mind Space so that when the match officially began, one could generally expect to see “instant cast” spells from both sides.

And the first spell model chosen was necessarily the player’s most skillful one.

Angel’s surprise lay in the fact that the Birdcage’s first spell was an Illusion Technique.

That dazzling radiance was actually a modification of a Basic Illusion Technique. By using an Illusion Technique while also launching a melee attack, this aligned with the characteristics of an Illusion Series Apprentice: weak offensive capabilities at the early stage, striking from afar but engaging closely.

If it were someone unfamiliar with Illusion Techniques, they would likely be disoriented by the dazzling glow, but the Birdcage was facing a top-notch Apprentice.

Delusion, unaffected by the Illusion Technique, was as immovable as a mountain, and to outsiders, it seemed he had been confused by the Birdcage’s magic.

A burst of cheers exploded from the spectator’s stand, as if victory was already in sight.

The Birdcage didn’t notice anything amiss, her figure still approaching Delusion.

However, when the Birdcage was less than ten meters away from Delusion, he suddenly lifted his head, the black aura on his face slightly faded, revealing his indifferent eyes of deathly stillness.

The moment the Birdcage saw those eyes, she immediately felt that something was off.

She swiftly executed a brake.

At the same time, the colorful rods spun like pinwheels, forming a rainbow-like defensive barrier in front of her.

But her actions were still in vain.

At that moment, Delusion moved, and to everyone’s eyes, it looked as if he had teleported, vanishing from his original spot. A second later, Delusion had already appeared ten meters behind the Birdcage.

Without looking back, Delusion walked toward the edge of the platform, and behind him, the Birdcage, with a hiss, was bisected at the waist, her body split into two halves!

The difference in strength was clear!

The victor was decided!

The referee was also stunned, and it wasn’t until after Delusion left the stage that he loudly declared Delusion the winner; meanwhile, several medical staff rushed to the platform to save the Birdcage.

The spectator stands fell silent.

No one had expected such an outcome.

Just a second ago they were cheering for their goddess, but the next second the fight was over, leaving them unable to adjust their emotions for a moment.

It wasn’t until Delusion had left the platform and disappeared down the contestant’s passage that an uproar broke out in the stands.

While the crowd was in a complex mood, Angel looked towards Lyon.

With Delusion’s strength far surpassing that of the first floor, Angel worried that seeing such a peer might have some adverse effects on Lyon.

But to Angel’s relief, Lyon’s eyes were glowing. He was not intimidated by having glimpsed a higher level of combat; on the contrary, he seemed greatly inspired.

This allowed Angel to breathe a sigh of relief.
