Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1351: Section 1352: Meeting Glenn Again

In Lyon’s puzzled gaze, Angel struggled to explain the behavior of these people.

He certainly didn’t want Lyon to misunderstand, asserting individuality was one thing, but if it led to the wrong path, that would be undesirable.

Lyon seemed to have come to a realization, nodding his head, but it was unclear whether he truly understood.

At that moment, bursts of cheers and thunderous applause came from inside the Sky Tower.

In Lyon’s confusion, a panel on the exterior wall displayed a message: “Dark Forest defeats Dragon Mage, cutting down four opponents today, and ascends to the second level of the Sky Tower!”

“It seems that a battle inside has just concluded.” Angel said, “Let’s go in and have a look. It’s a good opportunity for you to experience the level of the various floors of the Sky Tower.”

Since this time they were merely bringing Lyon to gauge the strength of his peers, they entered the Sky Tower with spectator tickets. Although Angel could use his identity card for free entry, the card required registration and his embarrassing nickname was his greatest blemish; he definitely could not use it.

After purchasing tickets for two first-level spectator matches, Angel and Lyon approached the match-up screen.

The display, occupying nearly twenty meters of wall, constantly changed with match information. Text and numbers flashed back and forth, densely packed, causing a dizzying effect.

“You can see the match schedule here.” Angel explained to Lyon while considering which match to start with.

Angel first looked at the rankings. Generally, the higher the ranking of the players, the stronger their abilities would be for sure. He planned to choose which matches to watch based on rankings, and upon inspection, he found that the top seat of the first level of the Sky Tower was none other than “Dark Forest,” who had been advertised on the outside screen earlier. With the screens refreshing for a new round, the name “Dark Forest” disappeared from the first-level rankings, clearly having moved up to the second level.

In the top ten rankings, aside from Dark Forest who had just finished a match, no one else had battles scheduled for today.

And only ten rankings were displayed on the screen.

“Looks like we’ll have to make a random choice.” Since they couldn’t select players from the rankings, random selection was the only option.

Angel directed his attention to the upcoming few match schedules, ready to randomly pick one and take Lyon inside to watch.

“Just pick any?” Lyon had been observing the match schedules on the screen as well, “Where are the first-level match schedules?”

Angel: “All of these are for the first level.”

Lyon’s face was filled with surprise. The screen was so large, with such small and densely packed text. Could it be that it was all for first-level matches? He had originally thought that matches from all levels of the Sky Tower were displayed here.

“With so many matches, can the tower really accommodate them all?”

Angel briefly explained the magic pattern technology of spatial extension: “This is the headquarters of the Southern Domain’s Sky Tower. The space inside is even more unimaginable; hosting a few hundred matches simultaneously is no problem.”

Lyon again absorbed new information. Although what seemed mundane to Angel, was quite shocking to Lyon.

After calming down, Lyon also started to grasp how to choose which match to watch with Angel’s guidance.

“Hell Lord versus Annihilator of Worlds; this match feels like it would be quite formidable.” Lyon pointed to a match that would start in ten minutes, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.

“See how many people are watching this match? Less than a hundred people have chosen to watch it; such matches are basically just a pastime.” Angel remarked.

“But their names sound pretty impressive,” Lyon muttered.

“More than half of the competitors here have impressive names.” An array of competitors capable of ‘annihilating worlds’ could be seen at a glance, easily counting in the hundreds. “When competitors choose their names, their expectations for themselves are too high. But reality often presents an insurmountable gap.”

Lyon nodded in agreement, “So, is it just like them asserting their individuality, also a gimmick?”

“You could say that.” As Angel answered Lyon’s question, his gaze was still drawn to the changes on the screen. With a new piece of information popping up, Angel noted a peculiar matchup.

‘Scorpion VS Sword of Conviction’

Angel had never heard of these two competitors. Or rather, he hadn’t recognized any familiar names from the first level. He estimated that even in the Sky Tower’s fifteenth-level matches, he wouldn’t know anyone, as he had virtually no interaction with peers from the Non-Barbaric Cave.

What he found strange about this match was that it took place at arena number 7, yet only sixty people were listed as potential viewers.

Among all the arenas, the top 10 were usually used by competitors with higher rankings. This meant that one of the competitors, either “Scorpion” or “Sword of Conviction,” must have decent strength, or else they wouldn’t have been assigned an arena with such a low number.

If there was indeed a competitor of notable strength, the match should be more appealing. So why were there only a few watchers, even fewer than the match Lyon had mentioned earlier, ‘Hell Lord VS Annihilator of Worlds’?

Angel pondered whether something unusual was at play and if he should go have a look? After all, the match involved someone called “Sword of Conviction,” who seemed likely to be an Apprentice from the Bloodline side, which could be enlightening for Lyon.

As Angel was hesitating, a voice suddenly rang out beside him.

“If you’re undecided, I actually recommend you watch the match at arena number 18; there’s a potential seed competitor there,” the voice suggested.

Turning to look, Angel saw a teenage boy adorned with skull decorations standing beside him.

Because there were so many people under the screen, Angel hadn’t noticed when the person had approached. However, when Angel glimpsed his face, his expression subtly shifted.

“My name is Glenn, are you here to watch the fight, too?” The teenager, who seemed to embody adolescence, smiled and introduced himself when he saw Angel looking over.

This young man who called himself Glenn was not a stranger to Angel.

When Angel had just returned from the Abyss, he found out that David was participating in the New Star Competition, so he and Baruba went to watch a match: David versus the King of Beasts.

At that time, Glenn was sitting beside Angel and appeared to be a fan of the King of Beasts.

Latter, at the end of the match, Angel saw Glenn again, but this time Glenn was with Baroque.

Now in the Sky Tower, Angel saw Glenn again. Although Glenn acted as if it was their first meeting, Angel didn’t believe this encounter was a coincidence.

Choosing which match to watch under the light screen, the crowd was a human sea. In such circumstances, Glenn, who had previously interacted with him a few times, managed to squeeze to his side and strike up a conversation. Was that really a coincidence?

Although Angel was now using the Disguise Technique, making it difficult for ordinary people to see his true face, the high ranks of Sky Mechanical City would definitely be able to see through his disguise.

Since Baroque was actually considered an upper echelon of Sky Mechanical City, and given Glenn’s connection to Baroque, it’s possible that Glenn had ties to the city’s leadership.

So did someone deliberately tell Glenn and then have him approach me? Angel thought this was very likely, but he didn’t understand why they would send Glenn to contact him.

Of course, all of this was Angel’s speculation.

Perhaps it was really just a coincidence, but Angel himself didn’t believe that.

“The potential seed on platform 18 is from a well-known Wizard family in Yirong Country. Although the outcome is predictable, definitely a crushing victory, in the current matches of the first level, his fight is the one worth watching,” Glenn said, seeing Angel not replying, and still kept explaining nonstop.

That was similar to how it was when Angel first met Glenn. Despite Glenn’s adolescent look, the science communicator in him was burning bright. In fact, Glenn had provided him with the details about the rules of the New Star Competition.

Lyon didn’t know who Glenn was, but seeing how familiar he acted and considering his youthful face, Lyon wasn’t too guarded. He even whispered to Angel, “Shall we take his advice and go take a look?”

Angel glanced at the match on platform 18: ‘Caged Bird VS Vain Thought’, with 578 people already planning to watch.

Eventually, he nodded, took out their two viewer tickets, and wrote the number 18 on them.

As they finished writing, the number of viewers jumped directly to 581. Besides him and Lyon, Glenn had also marked number 18 on his own ticket.

“Since we’re all going to see number 18, why don’t we go together?” Glenn suggested with a smile, his words seemingly carrying a hint of anticipation.

Angel didn’t respond but took out his ticket and marked number 7 on it, the match labeled ‘Scorpion VS Sword of Conviction.’

The fight on platform 18 was an hour later, while platform 7 was set to start in ten minutes. Angel estimated that after watching the match on platform 7, they should still have time to go to platform 18.

Angel’s action wasn’t meant to target Glenn; he was genuinely curious about the match on platform 7.

As for Glenn, whether his approach was intentional or not, it made no difference to Angel.

Lyon didn’t object to Angel’s decision either, as he wasn’t too familiar with the matches in the Sky Tower. When he saw that the match on platform 7 was about to begin, his eyes sparkled with intense curiosity. He was eager to know what a fight between other Transcendents was like.

Half an hour later, in the spectator area of platform 7, Lyon was frowning deeply.

His curiosity about this match had completely vanished over time.

Angel understood why nobody wanted to watch; it was simply… too boring.

The Apprentice known as ‘Scorpion’ started off quite spectacularly, her fiery red skirt lifted to reveal nine blackish-red scorpion tails writhing menacingly.

“That’s the Bloodline of the Red Poison Scorpion!” Angel’s eyes lit up at that moment. He hadn’t expected to encounter an Apprentice infused with a Bloodline on the first level. Just the integration of a Bloodline meant her strength should be above level five, which was probably why the Sky Tower officials placed her on such a prominent platform.

Angel shared some of the Red Poison Scorpion Bloodline’s strengths and weaknesses with Lyon.

At first, Lyon was also excited, but as the match went on, both Angel and Lyon fell silent.

Logically, the Red Poison Scorpion was an offensive Bloodline, and it brought difficult-to-counteract poison damage to boot. But the Apprentice treated it like a defensive Bloodline, encasing herself completely with the nine tails. No matter how the ‘Sword of Conviction’ hacked and slashed, it couldn’t break through this defense.

It wasn’t that the Red Poison Scorpion’s defense was that remarkable; it was simply that the contenders on the first level were too weak.

“A perfectly good fight turned into an endurance battle. No wonder no one watched it,” Angel felt a headache coming on, concerned not only that Lyon wouldn’t learn anything from this match but just hoping he wouldn’t be led astray by it.

But on second thought, it made sense. The first level was, after all, a battleground for the lowest-tier players. To truly provide insight for Lyon, they’d have to watch higher-level matches.

Fortunately, he had only purchased tickets for two matches.

After this one ended, they would watch the match on platform 18, and it would be better to go to a higher level for the next one.
