Chapter 1192: Section 1193 Life-saving Water

The flames burned fiercely, but when the wind blew, it was clear to see there was no one within the deep pit except the flames.

Time reversed to the moment before.

The Flame Arrow illuminated Greerwu’s terror; it knew it couldn’t dodge, feeling both despair and a resignation to death.

However, at the critical moment, Greerwu felt a force from behind. Stunned, it only heard a roaring wind next to its ear and then darkness before disappearing from its spot.

When it regained its senses, it found itself on the other side of the field.

At the same time, intense panting sounds came from behind.

Turning its head, it saw a Phantom Shadow entering Angel’s body, appearing to be a soul.

“Astral Projection?” While Greerwu puzzled in its mind, a sudden intense pain spread from beneath it.

Looking down, it saw nothing but a bright red.

Previously, by using Angel’s Astral Projection, Greerwu had indeed dodged the attack that could’ve taken its life. However, the Flame Arrow, strengthened by the Lord of the Flameless, just by the power of the burning flames alone had created a huge danger zone. Even though Angel had successfully helped Greerwu avoid the Flame Arrow, Greerwu was still affected by the range of the flame’s burning.

A mere graze blew a large hole in Greerwu’s chest and abdomen.

Blood was gushing out from the wound.

Even though Greerwu avoided the fatal attack, this graze had nearly claimed its life.

Behind Greerwu, although Angel was also impacted, all the direct force was absorbed by Greerwu, and Angel had only suffered superficial wounds, which were not serious.

Seeing the injury that had left Greerwu on death’s door, anxiety flashed in Angel’s eyes.

Greerwu had saved Toby before, that was a fact. Even if Greerwu’s injury was self-inflicted, Angel couldn’t bear to watch Greerwu die.

He quickly took out a vial of Glowing Fluff Potion from his bracelet and dropped it on Greerwu’s wound, but before the Glowing Fluff Potion could get close to the wound, it turned into a steam and disappeared.

Angel was stunned for a moment. Observing through Spirit Tentacle, he discovered that a Flameless fire lingered near Greerwu’s wound. Although invisible to the naked eye, it persisted there, burning and spreading outward from Greerwu’s wound like a Tibial Maggot.

The wound was already large and eroded by the Flameless fire.

It wasn’t long before Greerwu’s eyes began to gradually lose their spirit.

Angel quickly scanned through his bracelet’s medicine reserves with his spiritual power and found almost no potion that could handle Greerwu’s current condition. After thinking, he finally took out a bottle of dark green potion from his bracelet.

The dark green potion appeared ordinary, but upon close inspection, one could feel a profound depth.

This was an Intermediate Rank potion, one of the few Angel had in his possession.

Its name was “Withering Vigil.”

The potion was discovered in a hidden space of deathly stillness on Silver Palm Island within the graveyard of ships, where Angel found it amongst the relics of a wizard called Hasca.

Withering Vigil’s original effect was for extending life. Moreover, its effect was exceptionally outstanding, and if placed in an auction, it would fetch an exceptionally high price.

However, Angel took out this bottle of Withering Vigil not for its life-extending effect but because it also had a very special use: it greatly reduced the consumption of life.

Angel thought the best way to help Greerwu was to first use Withering Vigil to delay Greerwu’s life-and-death threshold, activate its life potential, and then figure out how to treat the injury.

Angel took the Withering Vigil and poured it into Greerwu’s mouth.

Having fallen into an unconscious state, Greerwu, under the potion’s influence, finally felt the chaos in its mind slowly clearing, and its bewildered gaze became sharp again.

Greerwu faintly saw that Angel was pouring some kind of potion into it, presumably the source of the warm and comfortable feeling.

Greerwu wanted to say thank you, but before it could speak, its pupils suddenly constricted.

“…Behind,” Greerwu managed to shout these short words with all its strength from its dry throat.

At that moment, Angel was using a Second-Level Trick, “Guiding Technique,” to quickly diffuse the effect of Withering Vigil. Hearing Greerwu’s voice, Angel was momentarily startled.

Behind?

Angel turned around, puzzled.

A shadow of scorching heat obscured Angel’s vision.

In Angel’s pupils, a gigantic porcelain-white palm was reflected. Structurally, the palm looked strikingly similar to the Hand of Magic, with some ethereal quality. But the only difference from the Hand of Magic was that this porcelain-white palm was engulfed in raging flames.

Angel didn’t even have time to dodge and was immediately seized by the palm.

Angel’s eyes were filled with confusion, not understanding what was happening. Then the next second, he felt an intense crushing sensation in his chest and abdomen. The force was so strong that Angel had the illusion that all his internal organs seemed to be squashed into bits, mingling with the viscid blood.

This unbearable torment turned Angel’s eyes white.

The agony kept assaulting Angel’s tolerance threshold. At that moment, he could think of nothing and move not an inch, only passively enduring his body being squeezed and his skin searing with pain.

In Angel’s mind, this pain seemed to last forever.

But in reality, it was only a fleeting moment.

Angel only heard a disgusted “Yuck” sound before the porcelain-white palm suddenly loosened its grip, and he fell to the maroon ground like a tree felled headfirst.

At that time, his body was contorted, especially his limbs, which were nearly broken into several pieces. Wisps of white smoke rose from his skin, which had been burnt to a black char.

Angel lay on the ground, gasping heavily, and with each breath, he brought out a large amount of blood and unrecognizable flesh.

He could feel that although his organs had not all shattered, they were close to it, and not to mention the damage to his organs, every inch of his bones felt as though they had been fractured.

The pain was no less than when he had been compressed before.

…

Enduring the agony, Angel made a great effort to lift his head, only to see the gigantic porcelain-white hand above him suddenly turn into a beam of white light and enter the body of the Lord of the Flameless who was standing in the distance.

The Lord of the Flameless was looking at Angel with a look of distaste.

To be precise, it was directed at a drab seagull lying near Angel.

The porcelain-white hand had indeed been created by It, but It didn’t intend to kill that insignificant human; It had only acted because that human, while saving the fledgling demon, had inadvertently revealed a small statue from his pocket.

The Lord of the Flameless looked at the statue and found it somewhat familiar, and so It had made a move.

Since It had decided to act, It hadn’t held back and was ready to crush this human into a patty, but when It was about to apply force, It suddenly felt a scent emanating from the human that was extremely repulsive to It.

The Lord of the Flameless, realizing what was happening, immediately let go of Angel.

At the same time, It had located the source of the repugnant scent—it was that seagull.

“So it’s the Calamity Curse from that group of Pilgrims of Misfortune; no wonder I encountered all sorts of obstacles while pursuing through the Void,” said the Lord of the Flameless, with a look of disgust in Its eyes.

The Lord of the Flameless now understood why It had encountered such bad luck on Its pursuit; those misfortunes were not directed at Itself but were merely the repercussions of the Calamity Curse.

Angel hadn’t expected that what saved his life wasn’t the mercy of the Lord of the Flameless, but the Calamity Curse on Toby.

He gasped for air, looking at Toby who had been thrown to the ground, a flash of relief in his eyes.

He was relieved that he had miraculously survived thanks to the Calamity Curse, and relieved that Toby had not been affected by the prior grasp of the porcelain-white hand.

Angel hadn’t died and the Lord of the Flameless wasn’t concerned; Its gaze moved slowly away from Toby.

Although It vaguely felt something was odd about Toby, none of that mattered now.

The gaze of the Lord of the Flameless settled on another item that had fallen from Angel, the very thing that had attracted Its attention before.

Lying quietly on the maroon ground was an exquisitely delicate statue.

“Is it actually a divine favor?” murmured the Lord of the Flameless as It observed the statue. Its fine appearance immediately reminded It of that Demon God.

—The Cruel Scholar.

“With a divine favor in possession, so, are you a follower of the Cruel Scholar?” The Lord of the Flameless said, surprised, while looking at Angel. This favor was unlike Popota’s chain; that chain was an artifact created later, but this favor was something born with the Demon God, a natural divine favor.

Only the most trusted followers of a Demon God would be bestowed with such an item.

Angel didn’t reply; he didn’t even have the strength to do so. The Lord of the Flameless didn’t care, merely glancing at Angel lightly.

“To not have the mark of the Cruel Scholar, why would He leave the divine favor to you?” The Lord of the Flameless murmured softly, “Interesting, very interesting indeed.”

Suddenly, the Lord of the Flameless found this human to be of interest.

However, this human could be set aside for now; there would be plenty of time to study him later. For now, the first issue to deal with was… Aoluxiya.

The gaze of the Lord of the Flameless returned to Aoluxiya.

Seeing that the Lord of the Flameless’s attention had shifted away from him, Angel struggled, enduring endless agony, and fetched the life-saving elixir from his bracelet using a wavering spirit tentacle.

It was the life-saving water condensed by Ironclad Granny before he had come to the Abyss.

Angel remembered Ironclad Granny saying that even fatal injuries could be saved with the water.

Angel didn’t know if Ironclad Granny was telling the truth or not, but he was aware of his own condition: nearly half of his organs were shattered, and if the life-saving water didn’t work for him, he probably wouldn’t survive.

With a mix of fortune and hope, Angel consumed the life-saving water.

As a cool liquid poured down his throat, in the next second, his eyes lit up, and he felt a powerful vitality rapidly repairing his internal injuries.

Shattered organs and broken bones were visibly recovering.

While Angel waited for his body to recover, a weak voice suddenly sounded in his ear.

“Divine favor… The only chance…”
