Chapter 1168: Section 1169: The Accident at the Top of the Tower

However, the hopes of humans and the worries of demons all turned to nothing in the end.

Because Fafnir came to the top of the tower, yet helped neither side. Flying to the other end of the rain cloud, she drew a clear line between herself and both demons and humans as if she had formed a third faction.

Angel naturally followed Fafnir as well.

Angel didn’t quite understand the current situation. He and Sanders were originally staying on one level, but suddenly, Nitotipu covered the Void Tower with rain clouds, and thereafter, Fafnir and Kanter appeared before him, one after the other.

After Fafnir arrived, she said nothing, but seeing that Angel was unharmed, she visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

Kanter came to report that humans had chosen a frontal assault.

Afterward, Sanders and Fafnir seemed to have said something to each other, and then the current situation unfolded. Sanders and Kanter flew to the top of the tower, holding Yadasai in check; Angel followed close behind Fafnir.

After reaching the high skies, Angel still wanted to see if he could learn anything from the battlefield below.

Especially after knowing that Monty was in a showdown with Aoluxiya, his heart was even more stirred. Such a battle between beings of their stature was bound to be transcendent, and he might learn something just by observing.

However, when he looked towards the battle area, he was disappointed.

It wasn’t that their fight wasn’t spectacular, but rather… Angel simply couldn’t catch a glimpse of them. The battle between Monty and Aoluxiya was entirely a tangle of illusions, and whenever they contacted, a rift in the Void would appear.

Angel couldn’t see anything and, after a few glances, he started to feel dizzy in the head. This was completely different from when he live-streamed the battle on the ice in the courtyard of the Misty Cabin.

“Such a level of combat, just the way their energies are manipulated, is not something you can comprehend at your current stage. As for before, you were able to watch the battle at the level of the great demons because your consciousness was protected by my wind,” Fafnir suddenly said.

Angel looked at Fafnir with surprise and doubt, not because of the implication of her words, but because… this was the first time Fafnir had initiated a conversation with him since she had come.

Not only that, but according to what Angel knew of Fafnir’s character, she wasn’t one to explain herself over such a trivial matter.

Angel regarded Fafnir with skepticism. Could it be that Fafnir felt guilty? After all, if it wasn’t for his own incredibly good luck and Sanders’ timely rescue, he might have perished there.

However, upon closer inspection, Fafnir maintained an indifferent expression from beginning to end, revealing no traces of such feelings.

Angel shrugged his shoulders and did not pursue the matter further.

“Then, could I request Fafnir’s protection once again…” Angel asked with a hopeful expression, even though he felt a bit cheeky for asking.

Fafnir responded coolly, “The battle here is nothing spectacular. Watching it will not bring you any benefit, but might instead affect the path you will take in the future.”

Angel was stunned for a moment. Although Fafnir refused, was this the first time he heard her express concern for his future?

Angel nodded absently.

In fact, Fafnir was right. With Angel’s current strength, even if he could make out the battle between Aoluxiya and Monty, he wouldn’t gain any insights. Instead, he might be drawn in by the profound secrets exposed during their battle, eventually becoming confused and losing his way.

Although he couldn’t witness the battle between Monty and Aoluxiya, Angel was still very curious and couldn’t help but ask, “What do you think, Lady Fafnir? Who do you believe has the better chance of winning?”

If anyone present could discern the situation in the battle between Monty and Aoluxiya, it would only be Fafnir.

She was silent for a moment, then slowly said, “That human named Monty has a variety of methods in combat, many unexpected attacks. From the current situation, he seems to be temporarily suppressing Aoluxiya. However, as an offspring of a Demon God, Aoluxiya has only unsealed its true body, while its True Spirit and true name are still held in reserve. Once it unseals new powers, the outcome remains unpredictable.”

True body, True Spirit, and a true name? Angel remembered that he seemed to have read similar information in records about Demon Gods. So, not only Demon Gods but even their offspring possessed the same power?

Perhaps sensing Angel’s confusion, Fafnir said indifferently, “The true body, True Spirit, and true name that Aoluxiya has unsealed are both its own and not its own. The status of a Demon God’s offspring is actually quite complicated, difficult to explain in a short time. You just need to know that Aoluxiya’s current powers are mostly inherited from the Lord of the Flameless. The more it uses them, the closer it gets to the Lord of the Flameless’s path. Just like humans who choose their future paths after becoming Official Wizards. Aoluxiya is doing the same. It seeks the Primeval Flame because it wants to forge its own path, not follow the path set by the Lord of the Flameless.”

As Fafnir said this, she sighed quietly in her heart.

Not long ago, she had met with Aoluxiya in the ‘Misty Cabin,’ and Aoluxiya had asked her a few questions. From those questions, it wasn’t hard to guess that Aoluxiya was searching for the City of Lost, which had disappeared into the mists of ancient times.

And its only purpose for going there was to fully deviate from the path set by the Lord of the Flameless for it.

But sometimes, one can be stuck deep in the mire without realizing, and the pursuit doesn’t always yield what one seeks.

Besides, would the Lord of the Flameless just watch as Aoluxiya sought its own path?

Many times, things are beyond one’s control.

Angel, unaware of Fafnir’s inner thoughts, frowned deeply and said, “Then it seems this battle will be a long, drawn-out war of attrition. But Lassudral is already nearing its end…”

“It won’t be a war of attrition. Just watch, it won’t be long before there is a result,” Fafnir stated evenly.

Fafnir had no sooner spoken these words than a real transmutation took place at the scene.

However, this transmutation was not the outcome of the battle itself, but rather came from another side, the top of the Void Tower.

Angel remembered that Official Wizard Sanders as well as the child demon Greerwu seemed to be at the top of the tower. However, Angel’s attention had been previously captivated by the earth-shattering battle between Aoluxiya and Monty, so he hadn’t paid much attention to that area.

But now, the tower top, which Angel had ignored, exhibited a shocking change!

A searing, orange-red beam of light suddenly descended from the sky, pierced through the rain clouds, and struck directly onto the top of the tower.

When the beam of light hit the top, an incredible glow burst forth in an instant.

The intensity of this glow was rarely seen in the world. In a split second, it swept through the gloomy rain clouds, and everyone’s eyes were brushed by this intense light, feeling as if everything before them turned white, and then they could see nothing.

Angel was also blinded for a moment, but Fafnir waved her hand, and a cool breeze shielded his eyes, preventing the sudden brightness from blinding him.

This unexpected burst of light not only brought all the battles within the rain clouds to a standstill, but even Kanter, who had transformed into the night, was forced by the light to revert to his original form.

The strong light continued for over ten seconds, but it took nearly a minute before Angel’s eyes gradually returned to normal.

When he opened his eyes and looked toward the distant Void Tower, he discovered that a change had already taken place!

Aoluxiya, who had previously been battling Monty, had suddenly returned to the top of the tower, and it had already transformed from its porcelain-white True Spirit form back into its human shape.

Additionally, at the top of the tower, with Aoluxiya at its center, countless inscriptions of light had suddenly emerged. These inscriptions circled around Aoluxiya like a bird’s nest, layer upon layer, enveloping it within.

“It’s an Inscription!” Angel exclaimed the name of the patterns of light.

“Exactly, they are Inscriptions. I didn’t expect you to notice,” Fafnir looked at Angel, unaware of his prior experience in the underground hall. “These inscriptions, transformed from Aoluxiya’s armor, given their level of intricacy, are likely the work of the Cruel Scholar himself and must be a hidden trump card Aoluxiya had been concealing.”

“Previously, Monty attempted to attack that pattern but couldn’t break through. It appears the effect of this pattern is likely of a protective nature,” she added.

Angel looked puzzled, “Protective in nature? What’s the meaning of using this Inscription on the top of the tower? Isn’t this tantamount to trapping oneself? Monty couldn’t break in, but it couldn’t get out either.”

As Angel was confused, another change occurred at the scene.

“Mine, it’s all mine, and no one can take it away!” Accompanied by a roar, the Void Tower suddenly began to shake.

Not just Angel, but all present, including the demons, turned their gaze toward the base of the Void Tower… The tower was shaking, naturally, because something was amiss.

Shortly after, massive amounts of dust and debris began to rise from the bottom of the tower.

Then, a crimson figure suddenly burst out from the dust, climbing up the tower’s wall like a red bolt of lightning, reaching the top at incredible speed.

Without slowing down, it crashed directly into the tower top’s pattern of light.

“Bang—”

Following a loud noise, the pattern flickered but remained unharmed. On the contrary, the red figure was bounced back by the pattern.

Spinning like a top for several turns, it finally came to a stop from the rebounding force.

It was at this moment that Angel got a clear view of the true appearance of the red figure.

That head resembling a salamander…

It was Komodo!

…

Upon seeing Komodo, Angel’s gaze flickered. He had personally been pursued by Komodo before, and now seeing it again, he felt a bit uneasy.

However, Komodo currently seemed to be in a state of frenzy, its eyes fixated on the top of the tower from start to finish, paying no attention to Angel at all.

“Mine, it’s mine!” Komodo muttered to itself as it charged at the pattern of light once again.

But the end result was the same, Komodo was repelled once more.

Yet Komodo paid no mind to the setback, its gaze towards the top of the tower growing even more fervent, continuing to smash against the pattern of light repeatedly.
