Chapter 1049: Chapter 1049: The Tang Sect Leader’s Woes

Gu Shishi, now a close friend of Tang Xin and having lived in the Tang Sect for a few days, was well-versed in the sect’s affairs. She began to explain to Ye Fei, ”This all started over fifty years ago. Back then, there was an elder in the Tang Sect whose grandson failed in the competition for the position of Sect Leader. In a fit of anger, he left the Tang Sect and vanished without a trace.

Everyone thought he was dead, but surprisingly, a few days ago, this missing elder returned after more than fifty years, bringing along a last disciple.

As soon as he came back, he declared himself the Grand Elder and appointed his disciple as the Young Master. No one in the Tang Sect, except for the reclusive ancestors, could match his strength, so they had to acknowledge their identities.”

”I see,” Ye Fei nodded. He understood the reclusive ancestors’ stance; they would only step in if the entire Tang Sect’s survival was at stake.

The missing elder’s actions, though excessive, were considered an internal family dispute, so they let it play out on its own, as long as it didn’t lead to the sect’s fragmentation.

Despite the situation, Tang Minghao must have been having a tough time, but Ye Fei decided not to interfere for the moment.

After all, even the sect’s ancestors weren’t getting involved, and Ye Fei, as an outsider, had no business meddling. Of course, if the master and disciple dared to bully Tang Xin, Tang Yu, and the others, Ye Fei wouldn’t hesitate to eliminate them.

”Why did the Young Master choose such an unusual date for his wedding, right after the New Year?” Ye Fei asked, curious about another aspect of the situation.

”It’s already been delayed quite a bit. The Young Master originally wanted to get married on New Year’s Day,” Gu Shishi said with a pout.

”On New Year’s Day, a minor sect’s leader came to pay respects with her daughter. The Young Master took one look at the girl and...”

”What do you mean by ’took one look’? That jerk was clearly after both the mother and the daughter,” Tang Xin interjected angrily.

”The way he was staring at Aunt Wen, his eyes were practically popping out. What a creep!”

Compared to Tang Xin’s outrage, Ye Fei was much more composed. Technically speaking, the Young Master was of the same mindset as him.

As long as both parties were willing, in Ye Fei’s view, there was nothing wrong with a mother-daughter duo. Of course, he wouldn’t voice such thoughts in front of the girls; it would only invite their disdain.

As they continued their conversation and walked forward, they hadn’t yet reached the banquet hall when Tang Minghao came striding towards them alone.

”Master Ye’s visit is truly an honor for our Tang Sect!” As the distance between them closed, Tang Minghao echoed the polite words of the welcoming disciple earlier.

Ye Fei greeted Tang Minghao with a respectful gesture and said with a smile, ”Uncle Tang, you’re too polite. We’re not outsiders here. Just call me Ye Fei.”

”Then I’ll call you my nephew from now on,” Tang Minghao responded without any pretense. ”It’s just after the New Year. How come you have the time to visit us?”

”To be honest, I’m on my way to Cihang Jingzhai to take care of some business, so I thought I’d stop by and take Miao Chan with me,” Ye Fei explained truthfully.

”I see,” Tang Minghao nodded. He then extended an invitation, ”If you’re not in a rush, why not stay for a couple of days and let me show you some hospitality?”

”I’d be delighted to impose,” Ye Fei accepted with a smile. Originally, he had planned to pick up Miao Chan and leave immediately.

However, the longing of Tang Xin, Tang Yu, and Gu Shishi softened his heart. Moreover, given the Tang Sect’s current precarious situation, he decided to stay and see what he could do.

After exchanging pleasantries, Tang Minghao personally led Ye Fei and the four girls towards the banquet hall. After a few steps, Ye Fei suddenly said, ”Uncle, it seems you’re not doing too well these days.”

”Getting by,” Tang Minghao sighed. Since Ye Fei had mentioned it, and knowing that his daughter had already filled him in, Tang Minghao didn’t hold back.

Seeing Tang Minghao’s dejected expression, Ye Fei couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. He suggested, ”How about I help you get rid of the trouble?”

”Well... let’s see how things go,” Tang Minghao hesitated.

Truth be told, he was tempted by Ye Fei’s offer. From his daughter, he knew Ye Fei was a master even more powerful than Ye Zhilin.

However, he still couldn’t shake off his doubts. He wasn’t sure how much stronger Ye Fei was compared to Ye Zhilin, while the Grand Elder seemed to be significantly more formidable. If Ye Fei were to act rashly and fail, it would put his daughter in danger.

In reality, despite Tang Minghao’s somewhat opportunistic nature, he was deeply devoted to his family. Initially, he had agreed to let his daughter serve Ye Fei, partly to connect with Ye Zhilin’s influence, but also because he saw through the underlying affection between his daughter and Ye Fei.

Now that they had become so close, he had come to regard Ye Fei as a son-in-law and couldn’t bear to see him risk his life.

Seeing Tang Minghao’s reluctance, Ye Fei was not disappointed but rather relieved. Among those who could lead a family, most were ruthless. It was rare to find someone like Tang Minghao who still valued family bonds.

Whether he had grand ambitions was secondary.

With Ye Fei around, Tang Minghao would never be at a disadvantage.

Since Tang Minghao had his reservations, Ye Fei dropped the subject and instead said, ”Tell me about your Young Master. Since he’s the Grand Elder’s disciple, his generation should be higher than yours, right? It seems inappropriate for a younger generation to inherit the position from an elder one.”

Tang Minghao chuckled, ”My dear nephew, you’re mistaken. Although the Grand Elder is over a hundred years older than I, we are of the same generation, both belonging to the ’Ming’ generation. His disciple is also my junior in the same way.”

Ye Fei understood. This wasn’t unusual. The Tang family was a large clan, and it was common for different branches not to have offspring at the same time.

Over generations, it was natural for individuals a hundred years apart to share the same generation name.

The banquet hall wasn’t far from where they had met. In no time, they arrived. As soon as they entered, Ye Fei and the four girls couldn’t help but frown.

Compared to the quiet outside, the hall was incredibly noisy. There were over a hundred people gathered, some talking loudly while others chatted in hushed tones, creating a cacophony that filled the entire hall.

Moreover, since everyone was local and spoke in dialects, Ye Fei, Miao Chan, and Gu Shishi, being outsiders, not only had headaches but also couldn’t understand a word.
