Radiant Dragon’s Otherworldly Reincarnation

Chapter 63. Something Feels Off. Very Off (2)

“It is true. He passed the exam for the Law Faculty, which is known to be difficult even within the Academy.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I remember it clearly.”

Patrick looked at Baron Schneider with eyes full of disbelief.

Seeing his son, whose face was full of the expression ‘My father isn’t that kind of person?’, Baron Schneider let out a sigh.

“I passed the exam, but I could not attend the Academy. Do you know why?”

“Because you didn’t have money?”

“That’s right. The Law Faculty is a 5-year course, but if one truly wants to graduate, it’s a place where you have to plan for 10 years of study. To graduate from such a place, enter a judicial institution, learn the ropes as a bureaucrat, and work as a legal professional, it easily takes 20 years.”

“……”

“For our family’s finances, sending a son to study abroad in the capital for 20 years was impossible. So, although I passed the exam, I had to refuse admission myself.”

“I see.”

“But, do you know what was more regrettable than the fact that I couldn’t enroll in the Academy?”

Ah, I shouldn’t ask this, should I?

If I ask, I’ll be roped in….

But he couldn’t just not answer his father, who was looking at him intently.

“What was it?”

In the end, he asked in a small voice, like a mosquito buzzing. And the Baron, with a look full of regret, said….

“It was the sight of my parents, who were so sorry that they couldn’t send me to the Academy.”

‘Damn it, I’m hooked.’

Is it fair to summon my deceased grandparents? Or not?

The Baron said in a voice full of regret.

“Every parent wants to provide the best education for their child. Now that I am a parent myself, I understand. I understand how my father and mother must have felt, who were saddened to see me disappointed more than I was at the time.”

“No, I mean, people have their own circumstances, don’t they? They might have been surprisingly okay with it.”

“I still remember. My father’s voice as he held my hand and told me he was sorry….”

“Uh, that’s…. Well…”

“My mother also said with tears in her eyes. She was sorry, she just kept crying and saying she was sorry….”

“Ehhhh…. Well, I mean…”

“She was a woman who lived a frugal life. She had sold all the jewels she brought when she married and had never once indulged in luxury, yet she apologized to me, her son, for not having money.”

“Uh…. That’s truly unfortunate, but…”

“The day they found out I had refused admission to the Academy, my father, who rarely drank, drank alcohol….”

“Ah, I get it. I get it!”

In the end, Patrick yelled.

This is cheap.

This is really cheap. But the problem was….

“I’ll go. I’ll go, okay?”

Whether it was cheap or not, there was no way to refuse.

He was going on and on as if not being able to attend the Academy was the family’s lingering regret, so what could he do?

“Ooooh. Yes, that’s a good decision.”

“……”

Seeing his father’s expression instantly change to a bright smile, Patrick’s face soured.

Was what he just said really the truth?

Could it be that I was just reeled in?

But seeing Lawrence beside him, also shedding tears and dabbing the corners of his eyes with a handkerchief….

‘It doesn’t seem like he made it up.’

And what could he do?

He had already said he would go.

The Radiant Dragon Great Master has his pride; he couldn’t go back on his word, could he?

If his friends from his past life found out….

[You were constantly going back on your word.]

[Says the bastard who habitually lied every time he opened his mouth.]

[Didn’t you say promises are meant to be broken?]

Well, it would have been like that.

Ah, I don’t know, you bastards.

Anyway, this time, I have no choice.

Right. There’s probably nothing to learn at that Academy or whatever, but since he wants to see his child succeed….

‘Let’s go and come back with the feeling of being a filial son. As quickly as possible.’

And so, Patrick’s admission to the Academy was decided.

* * *

“Hey. Did you hear?”

“That the Young Master is going to the Academy?”

“Really? The Young Master? To the Academy?”

“The Knight Faculty, I bet?”

“Then surely not the Administration… ah, no. Considering his obsession with money, that might be more his aptitude.”

“Uuuhm…. But you know.”

The soldier who brought it up said with a serious expression.

“Is it okay for our Young Master to go to the Academy?”

“……”

“……”

“……”

A terribly heavy silence descended.

What kind of place was the Academy?

Wasn’t it the kingdom’s premier educational institution that selected only those with outstanding talent from among the nobility to be nurtured as the future of the nation?

To that Academy, renowned for its tradition and honor….

“Our Young Master is going to enroll.”

“In the Academy, that is.”

“In the Academy…”

In the middle of the conversation, Oliver said what the other soldiers were only thinking but couldn’t bring themselves to say out loud.

“The Academy is screwed.”

“Hey, you punk.”

“Even so, you shouldn’t say it like that.”

“Right. Even if we all think that, how can you say it like that?”

It seemed they all had similar thoughts.

Oliver grumbled and said.

“No, let’s be honest. Just think about what our Young Master will do there.”

At Oliver’s words, the other soldiers thought for a moment.

About what would happen at the Academy once Patrick enrolled.

[Hoooh, you’re a senior?]

[Hoooooh, you’re a professor?]

[Hoooooooooooh, you’re the chancellor?]

[Like I give a damn about that? Come here. You’re dead. You’re not coming!?]

After finishing their flight of imagination, the soldiers looked at each other with fresh smiles and said.

“It’s screwed.”

“Yep, it’s screwed.”

“They’ll be taking down the sign.”

“Why would Count Parmas do such a thing? Doesn’t the Count’s daughter also attend the Academy?”

“What would that man have known?”

“Tsk tsk tsk. He’ll go down in history as the greatest traitor.”

The soldiers found the culprit of this whole incident not in Patrick, but in Count Parmas.

Patrick was already an uncontrollable entity.

He was a disaster akin to a natural phenomenon.

Therefore, if the Academy were to be ruined, it would be reasonable to find the culprit in the Count who threw that disaster into the Academy.

* * *

Now that he had decided to enroll in the Academy, Patrick also had to prepare various things.

Although they said he would live in the dormitories, he still had to pack his personal belongings.

He could buy bulky items in the capital, but he had to pack everything he could take with him. And….

“One attendant per person is allowed?”

“That’s right. Since most of the students are children of nobles, they are permitted an attendant. However, it’s only one per person.”

“Tsk tsk tsk, these bastards who gather to study are so rotten. It should be enough that they’re given a place to sleep and food to eat, what’s with the attendants.”

“So, you’re not going to take one?”

“Come to think of it, it seems like a good rule. Assign Chandler to me.”

“……”

Why not? It’s convenient if everyone else is doing it.

Thus, Patrick packed a few belongings and designated Chandler as his attendant, completing his preparations for entering the Academy. Or so he thought.

“The one accompanying the Young Master is me.”

That was before April came forward like this.

“You’re coming to the Academy?”

“Yes.”

“You??”

“Yes.”

“To the Academy?”

“Yes.”

Seeing April answer without a hint of hesitation, Patrick chuckled and said.

“No.”

It was a firm answer, as if there was no need to even think about it.

And April, too, said firmly.

“I will go.”

“Hey. Does that even make sense?”

Patrick yelled.

Normally, people would flinch when Patrick acted like this, but there was no change in April’s cold expression.

To her, Patrick said.

“You are aware of your own beauty, aren’t you?”

“Yes. I am.”

As long as there are mirrors in this world and one is not visually impaired, how could one not be aware of their own beauty?

April’s beauty, having recovered from the Nine Yin Severed Meridians at its peak, was so beautiful it could be said that her existence itself shone. Taking her to the Academy?

It was obvious what would happen.

[Ooh, a beautiful woman. What? A commoner? I am the scoundrel son of a high noble. If you obediently become mine, the Baron Schneider family will be safe.]

It was obvious something like this would happen.

Taking April to a place filled with the well-off sons of high noble families was no different from covering oneself in blood and taking a nap among a pack of hungry wolves.

“Yes. This time, Patrick is right.”

“Indeed, April’s beauty could be a source of trouble.”

It was a rare occasion, but Baron Schneider and Butler Lawrence also agreed with Patrick’s opinion this time.

But this time, April was also firm.

“Where the Young Master is, is where I should be. If I cannot fulfill that role…”

April took out two twin swords from her bosom and, offering them to Patrick respectfully with both hands, said.

“Then I no longer have a reason to exist. Please, take my head with your own hands, Young Master.”

“…Wait, time out.”

Patrick left April as she was and took a few steps away with his father and Lawrence.

Then, the three men gathered and began to whisper.

“What should we do? She seems serious.”

“She is certainly not a child who jokes around.”

“This seems to be no ordinary resolve.”

They knew that April followed Patrick blindly and worshiped him.

Hadn’t she tried to follow him on this subjugation as well, only to be barely stopped by Patrick’s dissuasion?

For her, Patrick’s admission to the Academy was a catastrophe of cataclysmic proportions.

Once he entered the Academy, she would have to be separated from Patrick for several years.

For her, whose only joy in life was to be by Patrick’s side and be helpful to his life, that was a punishment worse than death.

“What do you mean, what should we do? Just take her with you.”

Just then, Ava stepped forward and said a word.

“You’ve arrived, my lady.”

“Yes. I thought this might happen, so I came.”

Ava gently patted April’s shoulder, held her hands, and pushed her forward.

“She wants to go this badly, so why not let her? In fact, April will be much more helpful than Chandler.”

“No, she would be helpful, of course. But…”

“My lady, please consider April’s beauty. She is a child who causes a string of lovesick patients even within our fiefdom. If we take her to the capital, there will surely be trouble.”

Hearing those words, Ava smirked and said.

“Everyone is forgetting one thing.”

“What is that, my dear.”

“Our son is enrolling in the Academy, isn’t he?”

“That’s right. It is a joyous occasion for the family.”

“A joyous occasion, right? It is a joyous occasion. But…”

Ava gazed at Patrick for a moment, then smirked and said.

“Trouble is bound to happen with that alone, anyway.”

“…Huh?”

“Come to think of it…”

Baron Schneider and Butler Lawrence finally realized.

Patrick’s admission to the Academy.

It was such happy news that they had forgotten, but thinking about it now, this alone was already a problem.

There was no way trouble wouldn’t arise.

In such a situation, April is added to the mix?

What’s the point of pouring a bucket of oil on a wildfire that’s already spreading uncontrollably?

Just then, Ava gently stroked April and said.

“We’re not going to lock April up and hide her for her entire life, are we? This child also deserves to proudly display her abilities to the world.”

“Uuuhm…”

The Baron groaned.

In fact, she was right.

Her presence was overshadowed by Patrick, but April was also a formidable warrior who had reached the realm of 6-star.

To reach the 6-star realm at that age was a talent that could slap the faces of all those called geniuses in the world with her feet.

Rather, a reward… no, that’s going too far.

Anyway, April had dazzling ability and talent.

But just because her beauty could cause problems, to just lock her up in the fiefdom for life and make her do maid work?

She herself might not have any complaints, but…

‘Thinking with my conscience, it’s not right.’

Although he didn’t show it as openly as Ava, Baron Schneider also cherished April like a daughter.

He was also aware that a parent who keeps their child locked in their arms because it’s dangerous is the worst kind of parent.

“April, do you really want to follow him?”

“Where the Young Master is, is where I should be.”

“Alright. If that is your will, I will respect it.”

“Father.”

“Be quiet. Why?”

“It’s obvious what kind of trouble will arise if she goes to the capital, isn’t it?”

“You can just protect her, can’t you?”

“Why are you adding more troublesome things for me to do?”

“I return those exact words to you.”

“Ah. I’m really going to lose my mind.”

No matter how much he complained, it was useless.

Now that his mother and father had joined forces, he was already losing in public opinion. And above all….

‘She might actually die.’
