Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 723: Chapter 326: The Secret of Briff Island

Today?

The Great Saint Mother was taken aback upon hearing this and reminded, ”It’s just now eight o’clock in the evening, it’s not yet the next day.”

Wu Chang nodded, ”Yes, which means we still have four hours.”

The Great Saint Mother fell silent after hearing this. With only four hours left before the enemy appears, starting to negotiate cooperation now seems a bit rushed, doesn’t it?

However, Wu Chang’s next words made the Great Saint Mother’s decision time even more pressing.

Wu Chang took out a pocket watch, glanced at the time, and reminded,

”Archbishop Gelman has been submerged in the Blind Abyss for two minutes, Your Eminence, you wouldn’t want your most faithful follower’s will to collapse, would you?”

The Great Saint Mother clenched her fists. Not only is he proposing an agreement on the fly, but he’s threatening her with sweet talk as well. This damn mortal, does he take her for granted?

The Great Saint Mother was anxious, but as a mid-tier deity, she had weathered many storms across various planes of faith and knew that the more anxious one was, the less one should be led by the nose.

”You came to see me because you heard this piece of information, realized you couldn’t handle the Master of the Deep Sea, and were eager for my help, correct?”

Wu Chang replied noncommittally, ”You could think of it that way.”

The Great Saint Mother asked, ”Then what benefits do I receive?”

Wu Chang made a thinking gesture, hesitated for over ten seconds, and just as the Great Saint Mother was about to realize he was purposely stalling for time, he said,

”What do you want?”

The Great Saint Mother felt her temperature rise a bit. If you’re going to ask her, what are you pondering over?

”I need the missionary rights on Briff Island.”

Wu Chang looked at her in confusion and asked,

”Your Eminence, I fully trust in the wisdom between us, so why not be straightforward? You don’t really believe that if I allow your missionaries, the islanders will end up worshiping you, do you?”

Although there was no mockery or derision in Wu Chang’s tone, what he said was sharper than any ridicule to the Great Saint Mother’s ears.

This mere mortal actually thought that she, a legitimate deity, would lose in a contest of faith against a puppet created in her likeness.

This made her furious, but what made her even angrier was that she also believed it.

Lies don’t hurt people, the truth is the sharp blade.

The Ogre National Church has fallen to this state, certainly due to the lack of effort from the Church’s clergy.

She gritted her teeth and said,

”The faithful I seek to gain are certainly not the original islanders of Briff Island.”

”As we’ve discussed before, King Ogri has already granted Briff Island to Gelman. We won’t affect the island’s original residents or their existing activity areas, but we will expand the island, bringing more people from inland.”

”As for the immigrant islanders, both you and I shall rely on our own prowess for fair competition, yes?”

Wu Chang smirked, the Great Saint Mother played a good stratagem, with the calculating beads practically flying in his face.

As long as he agreed, the Ogre National Church could reclaim land from the sea, immigrate a mass of zealots to the island, and have the number of her followers surpass Erin’s followers on the island.

If according to his and Erin’s previous estimation, Briff Island’s existence significantly boosts the Power of Faith, then the Great Saint Mother could use this tactic to seize the lion’s share of Briff Island’s benefits.

If the races they immigrated possessed certain genetic aggressiveness, it wouldn’t take many years before, even if nothing was done, the original islanders would be diluted and assimilated.

Just like the once Proud Rooster of Gaolu has now become the Black Chicken of Gaolu.

Wu Chang saw through the Great Saint Mother’s intent, but he still smiled and said,

”Alright, as long as you can ensure you won’t affect the lives of Briff Island’s original inhabitants, I support free competition.”

He really liked free competition. As long as freedom was the premise and no rules required preventing mutual harm, no matter what the Great Saint Mother demanded, he could agree.

Originally in his plan, after settling the Master of the Deep Sea, he also intended to go to the Ogre Kingdom to freely compete with the Ogre National Church.

Just like the free competition between the Eternal Light Church and the New Universe Church in Gao Mu Country.

Freedom’s breath was sweet, even if the smell of blood was a bit heavy.

Seeing Wu Chang agree to the first condition, the Great Saint Mother immediately followed,

”Beyond the free missionary zone on Briff Island, I also want the share of spoils, any items in the deep sea without owners after dealing with the Master of the Deep Sea, whoever finds them belongs to them.”

Wu Chang nodded, ”Very reasonable.”

The Great Saint Mother looked at Wu Chang with some suspicion, given what she understood about this mortal, she expected to be made difficult by him, especially on the missionary and expansion rights of Briff Island.

Thus, before presenting her terms, she had already prepared compromises, such as the extent of expansion, the specifics of immigrant population, even conceding to personally deify Erin.

But what she didn’t expect was that all her requests, Wu Chang easily agreed to without any bargaining.

No, is this damn guy mocking her, deliberately stalling to cause Gelman’s collapse?

The Great Saint Mother’s complexion shifted slightly, saying, ”You’re agreeing so readily now, can you convince that puppet?”

Wu Chang moved his elbow, making the Great Saint Mother’s eyes instinctively squint, her hands rising as if to cover her nose.

This time Wu Chang didn’t directly move his elbow, he wore a fake smile and corrected, ”She’s not called a puppet, she’s called Erin.”

The Great Saint Mother reluctantly said, ”Fine, can your decision represent Erin?”

Wu Chang nodded, ”Of course.”

The Great Saint Mother continued to press, ”Even if it involves signing a divine contract forged by the Power of Faith, you can do that?”

Wu Chang shrugged, slightly bowing his body in a gentleman’s gesture.
