Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 714: Chapter 323: A Contested Land

Wu Chang watched Morena with an expressionless face, unsure whether the woman was doing this deliberately or carelessly.

He spoke to her, reminding her that he was a town councilor, and that she had personally recommended him for the role—or was it something that made her recall this?

Regardless, nothing had happened between him and Morena, making him confident enough to discuss the topic without fear as he naturally began to explain.

”Seeing me appear with the Saintess today, I’m sure everyone has guessed something.”

”The real reason I came to Briff was not because I was assigned by the Ogre Post Office, but to save the Saintess and resurrect her. Due to the presence of Count Jermaine, I couldn’t be sure who was trustworthy, so I kept it hidden. I hope everyone can understand.”

”Shortly after entering the island, I discovered that the key to resurrecting the Saintess was the seven deadly sins arranged on the island by Count Jermaine. The composition of the seven original sins originates from all of you controlled by Jermaine.”

At this point, Wu Chang looked at Morena, his gaze calm yet slightly apologetic.

”In order to access the seven sins, I had to make contact with all of you on the island, using you as a medium to reach the core of the original sin. For instance, that night near Morena’s house, I sensed one of the original sins.”

”I was not alone; the accident that caused you to be sent away was completed by my comrade. He saw the proof of original sin of envy within the bishop and extinguished it, causing the bishop to combust spontaneously.”

After hearing this, Morena fell into short contemplation, then suddenly said:

”So it was like this—that’s why the abnormalities in the town during that period were actually caused by you and your comrade?”

It comes full circle!

Seeing that Morena believed everything was his meticulous arrangement, Wu Chang let out a sigh of relief, saying:

”It’s not just us, but also Professor Ebert. With his help, we successfully entered the Count’s Manor and disrupted Count Jermaine’s conspiracy, allowing Erin to fully resurrect.”

Due to Morena’s startling statement at the beginning, Erin subconsciously observed the status between Morena and Wu Chang.

She found that their manner of interaction was no different from ordinary people, and combined with Wu Chang’s explanation, she realized she had misunderstood before.

Letting go of the inexplicable feelings in her heart, she followed behind Wu Chang and said:

”It was with Sean’s courage and ingenuity that I could be reborn from the ashes and seize this opportunity to become a god.”

She faced everyone, her gaze fixed on Wu Chang.

Only she knew how much Wu Chang had done for her during that time.

Wu Chang helped her break through seven spaces of original sin, defeated Count Jermaine who was one step away from godhood, and rescued her from the control of the Great Saint Mother, completing her soul.

Those events were far from being as straightforward as Wu Chang described in a few words.

She couldn’t tell everyone what Wu Chang had done, but she wanted him to be respected by everyone and not seen as her subordinate.

”He gave me new life, and for me, he’s extremely important. His words represent my will.”

The islanders, upon hearing Wu Chang’s words earlier, already viewed him differently.

No matter his initial motives for coming to the island and what he did on it, the fact alone that he resurrected the Saintess and gave them a chance for redemption made all his actions justified.

Now, combined with the Saintess’s high regard for him and seeing him as the human representative of a god, the islanders’ attitude toward him grew even more respectful.

Wu Chang smiled at Erin, aware of her intentions. If possible, he wanted to give Erin a hug at that moment, but he restrained himself to preserve Erin’s goddess image.

Having resolved the major crisis brought by Morena, he smoothly shifted the topic back on track, continuing to speak to Morena:

”The situation was extremely urgent at the time; after the Saintess’s resurrection, we needed to immediately move to a higher plane to stabilize the divinity, hence the unexpected departure. Little did I expect that so many changes would occur on the island during our absence.”

”Officer Morena, can you tell me what happened on the island during this time?”

Mentioning the events on the island, Morena became formal, transforming into a capable police chief, narrating the occurrences after they left to Wu Chang and Erin.

Meanwhile, Wu Chang True Self summoned the surrendered Ernst, also inquiring about the actions of the fishmen tribe during this time.

Through the perspectives of both the islanders and the fishmen, the events on Briff Island slowly unfolded before him.

Upon Wu Chang and Erin’s return to Peaceful Town, the threat facing the island came from the fishmen, yet the initial cause was the Ogre National Church.

Tracing back to three days after the Peaceful Town Dungeon concluded, the islanders were still caught up in the drastic changes and hadn’t yet recovered when the Ogre Kingdom’s steam fleet aggressively arrived at Briff Island.

The substantially large and orderly fleet had an appearance of preparing for war, with one part being the Kingdom’s elite navy and the other led by Archbishop Gelman from the National Church Knight Order.

More elite soldiers than islanders as a whole flooded the island, easily seizing control of the small town.

The soldiers detained all islanders and massively searched the island, seeking traces of Erin and Wu Chang.

Hearing this, Wu Chang could infer the motivation behind the Ogre Kingdom’s actions.

It must have been that his act of merging the Great Saint Mother into the Saint’s Legacy Mask and resurrecting Erin with the Great Saint Mother’s help was too rebelliously disruptive, causing the Great Saint Mother to order the Ogre National Church to wage war on Briff.
