Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 709: Chapter 321: Now I Can Rest Assured (Part 2)

Wu Chang exaggeratedly opened his mouth and said, ”You speak so dangerously, it’s a bit frightening.”

Tyrone replied blandly, ”You’ll get used to it, there are always many taboos at sea.”

Tyrone didn’t seem to want much contact with the two, after explaining the precautions and giving a brief introduction of Briver Town, he hurriedly left.

Leaving the inn, the two walked towards the town.

Wu Chang asked, ”How does it feel to be back again?”

Erin was silent for a moment, then said, ”Tyrone’s status is very poor, I sensed the fishman curse suppressed within him has loosened, if this continues, he will soon relapse into fish addiction.”

Wu Chang sighed helplessly, ”I was asking about your feelings, not asking for a comment on that guy’s physical state.”

Erin said, ”The island’s atmosphere is very oppressive, and I’m very worried.”

Wu Chang slapped his forehead, the Saintess’s past had a great impact on Erin, causing her to instinctively think of others first and ignore her own feelings.

At times like this, it’s necessary for him to clarify things.

”Miss Erin, the islanders here once backstabbed you, leading to your death and turning your body into a monster.”

”Now that you have regained your emotions, you are no longer the flawless Saintess without negative emotions. Facing these murderers again, do you have any feelings like unwillingness, disgust, or hatred, even a little?”

Erin stopped walking, and Wu Chang stopped alongside her.

He didn’t deliberately pose a sharp question to lead Erin into negative emotions and incite her to retaliate against the islanders of Briver.

He merely pointed out the problem, hoping Erin would reflect on and confront her relationship with the islanders, not to subconsciously overlook the issue due to thinking inertia and forgive others.

Erin thought carefully for a while and replied, ”Thinking about it now, I do feel a bit sad.”

Wu Chang saw that his guidance worked and was about to comfort Erin, but then Erin continued:

”But thinking that they were just Jermaine’s pawns, and because of them, I was able to meet you, travel to different worlds with you, see different sceneries, meet different people, it suddenly doesn’t feel so sad.”

Wu Chang: ...

Oops, he originally wanted to take the opportunity to let Erin see the ugliness of human nature and not blindly be kind when faced with problems, but after hearing Erin’s response, he suddenly felt it didn’t matter.

He worried Erin might suffer on behalf of considering others too much, so long as he stayed by her side and helped her keep watch.

He rubbed his face, suppressing the corners of his mouth that couldn’t help but rise, and with a straight face said:

”Since your sense of crisis is so weak, I’ll just have to always stay by your side to supervise you.”

Entering the town center, the tense atmosphere in the air became more apparent.

It was now ten in the morning, which should be the town’s busiest time, yet the number of residents active outside was much less than Wu Chang remembered.

Wu Chang found a chatterbox restaurant waiter from his memory who couldn’t keep secrets.

By praising the Saintess, he successfully learned from the waiter that everyone in the town was currently praying.

But when he asked for the reason for the prayer, the waiter refused to say anything.

They arrived at the entrance of the Great Cathedral and saw that the original faceless statue of the Great Saint Mother was now covered with a layer of white cloth.

Wu Chang lifted the white cloth, discovering that the original faceless statue of the Great Saint Mother had been replaced with Erin’s face.

Completing the features but then covering it with white cloth, the town members’ actions left him puzzled.

”Who are you, what are you doing!” A shout came from behind them, and Wu Chang turned around to see the red-haired Sheriff Morena approaching them.

Wu Chang repeated the reasoning he had used with Tyrone.

Facing travelers from the Royal City, Morena put away her gun and temporarily restrained her hostility.

When Wu Chang asked why the townspeople were praying, Morena discreetly mentioned that today was Mayor Harrison’s funeral, and it wasn’t convenient for outsiders to attend. If they wanted to pray, they could come back tomorrow when they leave.

Wu Chang sensed something odd about Morena’s tone when she mentioned the mayor’s death, as if there was more to the story, and casually asked:

”Sorry to hear about this, but before I came here, I heard the island’s mayor was in his prime. Did the mayor pass away due to illness?”

Morena shook her head, ”He drowned.”

Morena didn’t want to discuss this further, and after her brief response, she changed the topic.

Like Tyrone, she asked about whether the Saintess had returned to the Royal City and the current situation.

Upon obtaining the information, she did the same as Tyrone, advising the two not to go out at night.

Wu Chang waved farewell to Morena, turned, activated social phobia and elite stealth, and walked straight into the Great Cathedral.

The Great Cathedral was eerily quiet, the interior was very damp, and the walls were covered in fine water droplets, resembling the humid weather in the south.

The townspeople silently sat on the benches, no one prayed, and no one spoke. They just stared straight ahead with slightly bulging eyes.

At the front, where everyone was focused, a coffin was placed with Mayor Harrison’s body inside.

When he approached, he saw Harrison’s body was sixty percent transformed into a fishman, with his height stretched to 2.2 meters, gills-like organs appearing on his neck, and a layer of nearly transparent scales growing on his skin surface.

This appearance was likely the reason Morena prevented them from attending the funeral. ℯℯ𝑙.

From Harrison’s body, he detected the same sea fishy odor and divinity found at the Count’s Manor ruins.
