Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 479: Chapter 245: The Last Missing Material

The underground gloomy wind grew stronger and Colton’s summoned knight cards swayed precariously in the wind, deep scratches continuously appearing on the knights’ heavy plate armor and tower shields.

Colton said, ”If we’re going to make a move, make it quick, my skills can’t hold on for much longer. Go check Wu Chang’s status, if he’s been mentally controlled like Mo Ke, then we’ll have to abandon him.”

Veronica nodded and said, ”Understood.”

Reaching level thirty in the Abyssal Game, rashness was rare; everyone knew which circumstances allowed for rescue and when to give up.

If impossible, no one would choose to sacrifice themselves.

Before taking action, Veronica stacked a set of statuses on herself, her entire body emanating a soap bubble-like colorful halo.

This was her defense skill, which in a normal battle, could withstand two attacks from a player of the same level, but in the current gloomy wind, it feared to last less than thirty seconds.

She then took out a palm-sized cylindrical hollow wooden doll, these wooden dolls could nest smaller dolls inside them, known in reality as Matryoshka dolls, the wooden doll Veronica brought out could not only nest dolls but also nest people.

As long as Wu Chang hadn’t been devoured by the Nest entirely and his mind wasn’t completely confused, not resisting her rescue, she could use the item to nest Wu Chang out.

Veronica was about to set off when she suddenly noticed the gloomy wind in the room starting to recede.

Colton said tensely, ”The wind seems to be dying down.”

Veronica’s face grew grim as she accelerated toward the deep pit; the wind dying was certainly not a good sign.

The gloomy wind in the Disqualified Domain did not specifically target them but affected the surroundings indiscriminately; under such conditions, the wind grew because Mo Ke’s transformation into a Disqualified Monster hadn’t fully mastered its own power.

At this moment with the wind dying down, there was only one possibility: Mo Ke had completely fused with the Nest and could fully control his own power.

In this state, the difficulty in dealing with the Disqualified Monster skyrocketed, and once targeted, escaping would become extremely difficult.

Rushing to the deep pit, Veronica looked down, and she stood petrified.

Seeing Veronica standing motionless at the deep pit’s edge, Booker and Colton grew anxious; they chose to rescue Wu Chang not because of a deep bond but because, facing the Nest and the upcoming mission storyline, having one more person meant more power.

Why hadn’t they managed to rescue anyone, and the one going to rescue, Veronica, also seemed spellbound — was the Nest that wicked?

Booker refused to believe; he donned his cowboy hat, charging toward Veronica, the cowboy hat could enhance his will and allow him short-term immunity to certain abnormal statuses, not enough for saving Wu Chang, but pulling Veronica back was doable.

Arriving at the pit’s edge, Booker grabbed Veronica, just about to take her away, when turning, the edge of his gaze caught the sight below the pit, and he stood frozen.

From afar, Colton slapped his forehead, muttering to himself: it’s over, why have they all fallen for it.

With things as they were, he could only make a desperate attempt; acting now meant a chance of rescuing teammates and reversing the situation, fleeing meant that when the entity causing the bizarre scene sought him out, he wouldn’t even know what had happened, rendering him utterly powerless.

Gathering his courage, he approached the edge of the pit, glancing down, realizing why Veronica and Booker were stunned.

At the bottom of the pit, he saw the Nest fused with Mo Ke, the Nest’s suffocating pressure, just a glance left him feeling like he suffered a spiritual attack.

Yet such a powerful Nest was dead, and thoroughly so.

The colossal body of the Nest seemed violently torn into halves, its insides turned outwards, organ-like structures scattered everywhere, piled up like little mountains.

And Wu Chang, whom they were looking for, was rummaging through those organ heaps, searching for something.

The Nest’s body brought spiritual shock, and what Wu Chang was doing now was certainly spiritual pollution.

Colton shook his head vigorously, confirming he wasn’t trapped in some absurd illusion, then asked quietly, ”Did he do this?”

Booker swallowed and said, ”It couldn’t have been the Nest self-destructing, could it?”

Undoubtedly, everything at the bottom of the pit was Wu Chang’s doing.

Because they saw Mo Ke’s body, Mo Ke’s face filled with horror and puzzlement, parts below the ribs had fused with the Nest’s organs, and the unfused portions showed signs of partial liquification.

This sight didn’t resemble someone who had put up resistance.

A question simultaneously appeared in the three’s minds — was the Wu Chang below the pit still the Wu Chang they knew, or had he been replaced by something else?

The earliest to witness this sight, Veronica slowly recovered from her shock, tentatively asking:

”Wu Chang, are you okay?”

Wu Chang turned to them, shouting, ”If you’re not just here to watch but actually lend a hand, I would feel better.”

The three exchanged glances, Veronica held a small nested doll in her hand, handed the large nested doll to Colton, signaling to both of them, then jumped into the pit.

The pit was deep, but for players of their level, it wasn’t threatening.

The energy bubbles surrounding Veronica acted as gliding and cushioning while she descended, landing smoothly near Wu Chang.

Looking at Wu Chang, Veronica asked, ”What are you looking for?”

Wu Chang pointed at the Nest he’d dissected, ”I’m looking for its offspring, but unfortunately from what I can see now, it doesn’t have an ectopic pregnancy or premature birth.”
