Death… And Me

Chapter 3342: No Risk of Betrayal

All the story seemed good and all, but was it truly the real deal? ”Where did you hear about the cultivation limit and the fact you needed a formations master? I donʼt think the

centurions were all formation masters back then, or were they?”

”They werenʼt,” Herbert didnʼt hide it. ”Of their group, only Fidi-lu, the Spirit, was a formations master. As for how we know about it, thatʼs because the founder of my clan knew Fidi-Lu better than anyone else. He was the fourth centurion, Womeo.”

The centurions disappeared a long time ago, and no one knew what happened to the five of them. To hear that the founder of the Flinstone Clan was one of the centurions was quite the news. ”I see... Alright, why is a Formations Master of my level necessary? From what you told me, it seems like you will need me to open the path for you. At least thatʼs how it looked like to have happened with Fidi-Lu, according to your words.”

”Thatʼs exactly that.” Herbert was happy Rean understood everything. ”It was indeed Fidi-Lu who got into the Mist Library first, and it was also him who opened the path for his friends back then.”

”I understand,” Rean nodded. ”So, what do I have to gain from it?”

”Gain?” Herbert was taken aback. ”Did you hear the story? You have a lot to gain here.”

”And so do you,” Rean definitely wouldnʼt lose that opportunity to rip these guys off. ”As far as Iʼm concerned, I might as well enter the Mist Library and ignore the rest of you outside. Do you want that?”

”Boy, you do know I can break your neck right here and right now, right?” Herbert asked back in response, his expression serious.

Yet, Rean just shrugged, seemingly not afraid at all. ”Sure, go ahead. You might as well put a post in the Divine Snow World to look for someone like me. Good luck.”

”Tch...” Herbert clicked his tongue, feeling terrible. Find someone else? Rean has no idea how long he has been looking for someone like Rean. If it was that easy, would Herbet invite Rean instead? Obviously not. he would have just trained a member of his clan instead. Well, he did try that, but the lack of cultivation just made it too hard for his clan member to reach the necessary level without advancing to the Space-Bending Realm.

”Fine,” Herbert gave up. ”What do you want?”

”All the Starlight Energy Crystals you can find,” Rean spoke, and Roan nodded behind him. That was by far the thing they needed the most. After all, the source of Starlight Energy the system pointed at might as well be exactly these Starlight Crystals found in this place instead of a bigger source.

”Just that?” Herbert was quite surprised. ”Thatʼs not a problem. I can even give you a few ahead of time.” Immediately, he threw a Spatial Ring to Rean.

Looking inside, both Rean and Roan were surprised by the sight. There were thousands of Starlight Energy Crystals inside. It couldnʼt compare to a Universe Foundation Fragment, but it was definitely welcome.

Rean smiled brightly as he shook Herbertʼs hand in the process. ”We have a deal. Truth be told, I donʼt give a shit to this secret of the Mist Library or whatever. All I came here for was the Starlight Energy. You give me these crystals, and I will do whatever you want.”

Herbert obviously had no complaints about that. ”Then we have reached an agreement.”

Still, on the side, Kentucky couldnʼt help but ask Herbert. ”One of the reasons this region was blocked was also the Starlight Energy Crystals. Is it really okay to give us that much? You made it look like it wasnʼt anything worth mentioning.”

Rean and Roan glared at Kentucky, the meaning of their expressions obvious. ʼWhy donʼt you shut the fuck up? He has a lot of Starlight Crystals, and we need a lot of Starlight Crystals. Thatʼs all that matters, idiot.ʼ

Kentucky looked away, pretending he didnʼt notice anything.

Fortunately, Herbert didnʼt change his mind.

”Of course, they are expensive, and one of the reasons to block this region temporarily,” Herbert confirmed Kentuckyʼs words. ”However, my clan doesnʼt cultivate anything related to Starlight. As for their value, I donʼt want to brag, but my clan is already pretty well off. We could make some big profit with these crystals, but they arenʼt anywhere near as important to us as the Library.”

With that agreement reached, they now just needed to discuss their next steps.

”How do you want to go from here now?” Rean asked.

Herbert then passed to Rean and his group his VS Device number. ”Just go and perform your investigation as assigned by the higher-ups. At the moment, we need someone, anyone, to find a way inside.”

”Arenʼt you afraid we will spread the news about you?” Rifindio asked, surprised that Herbert was letting them go that easily.

Yet, Herbert didnʼt answer; Roan did. ”He doesnʼt need to. We have more to lose than to gain by spreading this information. If we do speak, the other powers will prepare themselves, and we might not even get a chance to enter the library at all. Herbert already showed us that he intends to pay us as we agreed, so our best outcome is to side with Herbert and his Flintstone Clan.”

Herbert liked smart people. ”Correct. We have a lot to gain by sticking together and a lot to lose by betraying either side, at least until we get inside the Library. This is an agreement of mutual benefit. Nothing is more assuring than this.”

Rifindio scratched the back of his head, feeling a little ashamed he didnʼt think about it first. Well, a few others in his group, like Kentucky and Emanioraʼs friends, looked away. They also failed to notice that. ”I made an idiotic question. Please ignore me.”

Finally, Herbert and his clan members left, going in another direction. They also had their own assignments. As for Reanʼs group, they allowed Emaniora to take the lead, bringing them to the place where her group found the clues.
