The Villain's Story

Chapter 798: Guardian of Shadows(3).

”Do you see the stars? The vast sea above the primordial river?”

Azmakul looked up, and Shilam followed, their gazes piercing through the thick fog in Lanekia and above the dormant river, taking in the formation of the stars.

Shilam didn’t understand what he was supposed to see, and so he waited for Azmakul to speak once more, to give an explanation.

He was starved for anything at this point, even gibberish.

”I have seen those stars many times, and yet, every time they are the same but different. A sea of fire, a sea of ice, a sea of chaotic darkness, blinding light, and a thousand different stories of grief and aguish.

I’ve had the same dream for so long, even when I am awake, or in rest. I see the same black dragon, a mighty power I cannot overcome, and I fear that is the obstacle which has forced us to use the chalice, and I fear this has happened many times.”

Shilam’s robotic hands quivered, and he slowly looked down at the old dragon, who laughed.

”Don’t fret about it.”

He was about to say so much, but Azmakul stopped it by putting his finger on his skeletal mask.

”Don’t worry about it.”

Shilam’s body began to emit steam from worry, as he frantically moved his body to convey his concern, eventually, he couldn’t hold it in.

”MY LORD, THIS IS NOT A CA-”

”Why worry about it? Is it our problem? You should put more faith in the current supremes and just focus on your duty.”

”THE CHALICE HAS BEEN USED ONLY ONCE, AND IT WAS IN THE OLD WAR! THIS ISN’T... Excuse me, please give me some assurance.”

He calmed down midway, taking in deep breaths, desperate for assurance.

Azmakul didn’t give him any, simply remaining silent as he focused his gaze down the valley once more.

”...”

Shilam, dumbfounded, did his absolute best to fight against the worry rising in his heart, and began to ponder. He didn’t want to believe most of what he had heard.

”I think it’s because I was a supreme once, or it could be that I am finally going senile.”

Azmakul muttered, and patted Shilam on the shoulder.

”Go and help the party, do your job, and let the others responsible for it all worry about it.”

Shilam took one last deep breath, and stood up, bowing to the old dragon. He grabbed the hilt of his black blade and fell down the valley.

His body collided with the solid mana on Lanekia, a black figure drowned in the blizzard, and all of a sudden, it disappeared.

Shilam continued to fall down, this time, in the Realm of Shadows as his body split itself into many parts, each going towards one member of the party, while the main body fell down towards the center of the Realm of Shadows.

He could see it faintly, a rain of disastrous magic falling down on a single mountain of ice, Shilam focused on the battle more intensely than any other one... however.

As he passed through the veil of clouds, his brother and sisters, he came face to face with a black wall made of shadows.

’...’

A separate realm created in an instant, blocking his vision and the vision of every other dragon in the realm. A realm only one could see through, the creator.

Shilam stopped his descent, standing on the air as he looked up at the Black Sun exuding its magical light.

”Very well, My lord.”

He sat down, and waited for the realm to disappear. If his lord didn’t want him to witness the clash, then it shall be so.

He would have to wait, as his Lord decided the outcome.

---

Within the mountain he had conjured, Alan silently endured the onslaught as he thought of a way to fight against the calamity in the sky. Everywhere he could see was being bombarded with magic, on a scale even he couldn’t do.

He was glad he hadn’t depended on instantaneous teleportation, because everywhere was being blown up three times a second, however, he was still in a dangerous situation.

It was his first time fighting something with mana reserves larger than his own, and honestly, he was at a bit of a loss.

Frozen in the core of his mountain, Alan filtered out the sounds of endless bombardment, and thought.

’Three tries at the most, and I have to kill that thing.’

For a moment, he doubted it if it was possible, to kill any version of Aranus when even the Supremes had given up. He had even received messages from Lanesha and Ariel, describing their shock.

It really made him question.

Is there anyway to kill that thing? That absolute monster? The manifestation of destruction itself?

He looked up, piercing through the bombardment to lock eyes with the calamity in the skies, his hands shook in his prison of ice, as he thought of ways to defeat the monster in the sky.

Magic wouldn’t work right now, that thing would sense if he tried to make another Supreme Meteor, and although he was sure that Supreme meteor would do something, the response would be ten times worse.

Alan clenched his fists and grit his teeth, as he expanded his mountain to boost his defense as much as he could, and it was then that his ice collided with something.

A spear buried deep in the ground, somehow managing to survive the onslaught from above. His mountain covered the Ame-No-Sakahoko, and Alan could instinctively feel the spear vibrating throughout, calling out to him.

He melted the path between him and the spear, creating a small channel of water in the mountain of ice, and without him even having to call the spear forth, it moved through the small channel with ridiculous speed and placed itself firmly in his hand.

Alan’s eyes widened as golden armor formed all around him, becoming a source of light in the core of the dark mountain.

The spear filled him with strength, something he was surprised at, until he came to a realization.

’Oh yeah...’

After all, How could he forget? Perhaps it was because he had never truly faced the kind of enemy the Ame-No-Sakahoko was meant for, the enemy it was meant for, as it’s original user truly intended.

He took a deep breath, and gathered all his mana, forcing the mountain to begin to crumble under the onslaught as Alan locked eyes with the demonic calamity in the skies once more.

A blinding light began to form above said calamity, a spear of ethereal golden light the size of a building.

At the same time, the very same spear known for being the bane of demonic beings back on Earth broke through the mountain of ice with an explosion of blinding light, navigating its way through the rain of magic to reach the calamity it was always meant to fight.

The Ame-No-Sakahoko was a demon killing spear, and the perfect demon was right in the skies.
