The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Barbecue (5 more)_1

Xun Hui and Erni were at a loss for what Yang Ruxin was talking about, they simply noticed she had stopped speaking, so neither dared to say a word.

Soon, footsteps sounded from outside, pulling Yang Ruxin’s thoughts back to the present.

A group of people who had been next door all came bustling in.

Gu Qingheng, accompanied by the two Qi brothers and Fang Tianze among others, arrived, each carrying a large bundle of bamboo skewers in their hands.

Xun Hui and Erni breathed a sigh of relief. Having just cried, they hurriedly went into the house to tidy themselves up, while Yang Ruxin had already adjusted her breath and expression.

”Are these acceptable?” Gu Qingheng asked.

Yang Ruxin glanced at the bamboo skewers and picked out some, ”These are too thick, whittle them down a bit more.”

”These are all your handiwork, I told you it wasn’t good, you didn’t believe me...” Qi Jingrong gloated as he glanced at Qi Jingyi.

Qi Jingyi rolled his eyes at Qi Jingrong, then bent his head down with Weng Ji to start whittling the skewers again.

”How about it? I’m the smart one, right? I whittled these...” Qi Jingrong ran over to Yang Ruxin, seeking praise.

But Yang Ruxin simply flicked her eyelids, ”Now you guys wash your hands, and then string up these marinated meats like I did. I’m going to start the charcoal. Let’s get grilling...” Eating grilled meat didn’t need to be too formal; it was usually eaten while grilling, and by the time everything was cooked, you’d be full. The only regret was the lack of beer here.

What’s more regrettable is that she didn’t know how to brew alcohol.

Qi Jingrong scratched his nose sheepishly. How come this village girl didn’t give him any attention? It was frustrating.

Gu Qingheng’s brows furrowed slightly as he keenly noticed the change in Yang Ruxin’s voice. It was heavier than usual, clearly, she had been agitated earlier.

He didn’t need to ask to guess why, but it was a pity that there were too many people around for him to have a word with her alone. He would have to find an opportunity later.

The charcoal fire rose, skewers of meat sizzled upon it, followed by a rich aroma...

”I’ve never eaten meat this way before. Looks easy.” Dao Xuzi was the most excited. After watching Yang Ruxin start the charcoal fire and grill a few skewers, he too was eager to try, ”Let me grill...”

Yang Ruxin left it to him, then turned to prepare some soup in the kitchen to counter the greasiness. However, in the corner of the cooking area, she spotted a small figure and frowned, ”Lanlan, what are you doing here? Go out and eat some meat...”

”Big cousin.” Erya looked up, her face streaked with tears. ”Did my dad get into trouble? Does my mom not want me anymore?” She had waited all afternoon without her mom coming to pick her up, and she didn’t dare go back by herself.

”How could that be?” Yang Ruxin had no real resentment towards this little cousin, who was only three years old, even younger than Sini and Zhou Ying. She couldn’t help but go over, pull her up, and touch her head, ”They’ve got some things to take care of, they’ll come to get you once they’re done...”. She had almost forgotten to ask Sanni about it. With such a big incident at the old house, what had become of the Dong Family, and she had been so preoccupied by the BBQ that had she not seen this little girl here, she might have forgotten there was still such a living person left at home.

Erya looked down, twiddling her fingers. She knew, in fact, that her big cousin didn’t like her parents.

”Don’t worry. If your parents really don’t want you, your big cousin will take you in. Would you like to play with Mimi and Xiaobao then?” Yang Ruxin didn’t mind raising one more person at all. It was just a matter of an additional pair of chopsticks and a bowl. What she feared was fostering ingratitude; she was willing to go out and struggle, but she needed absolute security at her back. She couldn’t afford to have her own people occasionally stabbing her in the back while she was taking the lead. That would drive her insane.
