“Exactly, we’d rather eat it ourselves than let those people benefit,” Sanni nodded and then chewed fiercely on the cicada nymphs in her mouth, as if she were chewing on enemies.

Sini hurriedly raised her little hand to cover her mouth as she chewed, still looking at Yang Ruxin with a giggle.

“Sini, what’s making you so happy?” Yang Ruxin felt her heart might just melt under that adorable gaze.

Yang Sinni blinked her big eyes, “Looking at big sister makes me happy…”

Yang Ruxin was momentarily startled, then felt an immense sadness.

Just the act of eating had made the little one so happy… Suddenly she remembered something, “Right, there are also eggs…”

“Big sister, let’s not eat them today,” Erni spoke up, “We’ve already had plenty today…”

“You think they can be kept until tomorrow?” Yang Ruxin raised her eyebrows slightly.

Erniu immediately fell silent.

Their main house’s room simply couldn’t hide anything, and someone might come searching tomorrow.

“So, it’s safest to eat them, or find a place that’s absolutely safe…”

“But where is there an absolutely safe place?” Sanni muttered.

In her heart, Yang Ruxin thought, yes, there is—her space—but she couldn’t say it aloud.

Instead, she reached out her hand, “Give me the eggs, I’ll go find a place to hide them.

If I can’t find one, I’ll cook them and bring them back, hiding them in our stomachs…”

“In our tummies,” Sini happily rolled on the bed.

Sanni hesitated for a moment but ultimately chose to trust her, handing over the black clay jar with two eggs to Yang Ruxin.

“Wait for me,” Yang Ruxin said as she took the eggs and walked out.

“Big sister…” Sanni quickly grabbed her arm, still worried.

“Come on, can’t you trust me for once?” Yang Ruxin frowned.

Sanni immediately let go of her hand.

“Make sure the door is locked…” Yang Ruxin patted Sanni’s head, then took the household’s fire starter and headed out.

“You… you better not eat them yourself…” Sanni still clung on.

Yang Ruxin paused for a moment, then shook her head somewhat helplessly, “Look, Sanni, you have to have confidence in me.

Whatever I did before is in the past, we have to look forward.

Don’t forget, our common enemy is over there…” she said, pointing in the direction of the main house.

Sanni pursed her lips.

Yang Ruxin ignored her and turned away, pushing her hand aside as she left.

Xun Hui heaved a sigh, feeling as if a mountain weighed on her heart.

The child had suddenly become so assertive, and she wasn’t sure if this was good or bad.

Yang Ruxin carried the clay jar out the door, only to find the courtyard gate had been bolted.

If she opened the door, it would surely alert those in the main house, so after glancing at the surrounding wall, which wasn’t even two meters high, she thought it was no big deal for her.

She vaulted over the wall effortlessly, making no sound.

Behind the village was the Gu Family.

“Mother, did you notice that Big Brother has been acting strange since he came back today?” Gu Yao spoke softly.

Feng Family looked up, “Is he not feeling well?” As she said this, she rose, “I’ll go see him; if it’s bad, we might need to call the doctor…”

“Oh, Mother,” Gu Yao quickly held Feng Family back, “When I say he’s acting strange, I don’t mean he’s unwell, but rather his behavior…”

Feng Family wasn’t foolish.

After pondering Gu Yao’s words, she seemed to realize there really was something different, and her eyes widened, “Yes, when he came back today he spoke several sentences to me, he came to dinner on his own initiative, and he even just asked what’s for breakfast tomorrow…”

Gu Yao nodded.
