Xun Hui knew at a glance that her daughter Ruxin was displeased with her again, but she really didn’t know what to do.

In the end, she could only sigh and close her mouth.

She didn’t want to sleep at first, but whether it was because of the injury or because there was food in her belly, once the conversation stopped, her eyelids began to droop, and drowsiness swept over her like a tide.

“If you’re sleepy, sleep,” said Ruxin, glancing at Xun Hui, “Nothing is more important than your own health.”

Xun Hui nodded.

Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door outside.

Xun Hui’s eyes immediately widened.

Sanni hurried to open the door but quickly returned.

“Who is it?” Xun Hui wiped away the tears that had spilled out from yawning.

“It’s Uncle Xiaowu.” Sanni’s eyes sparkled as she held a cloth bundle in her hand, which when opened, revealed a dozen or so roasted cicadas.

Though they had just eaten, the meal, which looked ample, was only slightly more than usual when divided among the six of them.

So, when the aroma from the opened cloth bundle wafted out, it made everyone in the room swallow reflexively.

Ruxin quickly went to check the door, only to find that Uncle Xiaowu was already gone.

She couldn’t help but smile and felt a warmth in her heart, thinking that Uncle Xiaowu might be the only one in the An Family who could bring warmth to the people of the main house.

After closing the door and returning, Ruxin reached out for the cicadas, intending to distribute and eat them quickly.

Otherwise, if the scent spread, and Yang Anshi got wind of it, there would be no peace.

But before her hand reached them, Yang Sanni snatched the bundle away, retreating a few steps, her face wary as she watched her.

Ruxin blinked in surprise.

What was going on?

“I didn’t mean to,” Sanni confessed, looking embarrassed as she offered the bundle back, “I…” It was just an instinctive reaction because in the past, whenever they had something good, Dani would snatch it away and give it to Guan Qingshu.

Ruxin instantly guessed the reason and couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and frustration.

“Dani, Sanni didn’t mean any harm…” Erni intervened, thinking Ruxin was upset because she was silent, “The last time Uncle Xiaowu gave us roasted silkworms, we didn’t have the heart to eat them, and you took them to Guan Qingshu, but he just threw them all on the ground…”

“Dani, I really didn’t mean it, you…” Sanni approached a couple steps closer, “Don’t be angry, okay?

I know you’ve changed…”

“Hey,” sighed Ruxin, “I’m not angry with you; I’m angry with myself.

I was really foolish before…”

“Dani.” Xun Hui choked up, “Qingshu is indeed a good lad, but…”

“But it has nothing to do with me.” Ruxin stuffed a cicada into Xun Hui’s mouth, successfully silencing her.

“Tasty, isn’t it?” This was high in protein, absolutely nutritious.

“I…

I’m already full.

You all eat this…” Xun Hui hastily refused, but couldn’t spit out the cicada in her mouth.

However, she felt incredibly relieved that her eldest daughter had finally grown sensible!

“It’s still warm now, eat it quickly.

It will start to stink once it cools,” Ruxin didn’t pay attention to Xun Hui any longer, but told the younger ones, “And it’s delicious.

If people outside smell it, we’ll have none left…”
