The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Pretending to Faint_1

”Maybe I should beg Grandma again...” Yang Erniʼs little face twisted in conflict.

But at that moment, the outer yard gate creaked open, followed by a manʼs voice, ”Mom, is lunch ready?”

The Family Head, Yang Peili, who had been working in the fields, had come back.

Erni immediately froze, obviously scared.

Yang Ruxinʼs eyes flashed, she glanced at Erni, ”Get a wet cloth for...” She struggled to call a strange woman mother and couldnʼt bring herself to say it. After a pause, she continued, ”put it on her forehead to bring down the fever. Iʼll be back soon...”

Yang Erni watched Yang Dani walk away, her mouth opened but in the end, she said nothing and turned to take care of Xun Hui.

Sanni stood up as well, ”Erni, you take care of mom. Iʼll follow Dani, so she doesnʼt get stubborn and anger dad. Mom already doesnʼt have the money to call the doctor, if she gets knocked out...”

Erni quickly nodded, she was also worried about this. After all, with their mother already in this state, it was a relief that Dani had finally woken up, but they couldnʼt afford to add more burdens.

As for Yang Ruxinʼs behavior before today, Erni thought that she must have... must have hurt her head from the fall, right?

In the yard, Yang Peili and his youngest son Yang Baixiang unloaded wheat straw onto the firewood shed before coming back out to draw water for washing up.

Yang Anshi, inside the house, hurried out when she heard the men return, ”Family Head, youʼre back...” She was about to say something when she suddenly noticed Yang Ruxin standing at the doorway of the western chamber, watching her with a barely concealed smile. Anshiʼs throat tightened and she stopped in her tracks.

For some reason, she suddenly felt that her usually slow-witted and simple granddaughter seemed rather eerie today.

Yang Peili also noticed Yang Ruxin and frowned, ”Dani, youʼre awake?” He hadnʼt taken it seriously when he heard she had fainted. Now seeing her, it was merely a casual inquiry.

Yang Baixiang smiled at Yang Dani, ”Dani, are you okay now? Does your head still hurt?” Then he lowered his voice, ”Tonight Iʼll catch some cicada nymphs to grill for you to eat...” (Cicada nymphs are referred to as cicada monkeys.)

Yang Ruxin remembered this Uncle Xiaowu. He was the only one who was willing to help with the work and genuinely cared for them, but he had a tough life.

The Yang Family boys all started their education around the age of five or six, and at the very least, they studied for three to four years or even longer before taking the scholar examinations. Only Yang Baixiang had studied for a year before he was forced to quit due to a broken leg, and because it didnʼt heal properly, he was left with a limp.

Now his left leg was visibly shorter than his right, and at the age of twenty-five or twenty-six, he still hadnʼt married. This had become a concern for the old Yang couple.

Yang Ruxin then smiled, ”Thank you, Uncle Xiaowu. Iʼm fine now.”

Yang Baixiang was momentarily stunned, then smiled with relief, ”Thatʼs good.” Why did it seem like his great-niece had changed? However, now she seemed better, at least she could smile and say thanks. It seemed she had become sensible.

”Dad, youʼre back...” Just then, Feng Caie, who had been hiding inside, burst out, ”And Dani, really, if you donʼt want to work, just donʼt. She actually pretended to faint and come back... Mom scolded them a bit, and as a result, Dani also pretended to faint. Sigh, they both went back to their room to lie down. What a life of luxury...”
