I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 462: Chapter 459: We... Will Get There, Won’t We?

”Where’s the Block?”

When Li Luo awoke from her daze, she found herself lying on a patch of grass.

Faint sunlight filtered through the forest, landing on her body.

She looked back and saw the Block floating quietly nearby.

Before she lost consciousness, Li Luo had seen the characters on her nameplate change, so she quickly picked it up and examined it closely.

”Level Four... Is this already the fourth floor?”

A cool breeze blew past. The fourth floor seemed to hold no danger; everything was quiet and peaceful.

...

Inside the Block, Mo Ling was tidying up the once-again-expanded space.

”It doubled in size again.”

Looking at the ever-expanding Block Space, Mo Ling actually felt it was a bit empty.

”When it was only one cubic meter, I felt too cramped to stretch. It was awful. Now that the length, width, and height are all eight meters, it feels a bit empty. It seems you’ll always have something to worry about, no matter what.”

The Block Space contained only a simple bed, a pile of strange odds and ends in one corner, and food stacked in another, which made the space seem even more vacant.

Mo Ling sat on the bed, looked at the now-tidy space, and sighed.

He hadn’t experienced the same synchronization as Li Luo, nor had he seen any sky-high flames.

He had only seen sunlight shine into Mirror Square and flash a few times before Li Luo and the Block both arrived on this patch of grass.

Immediately after, the space had expanded, and then Li Luo was lying on the ground, unconscious.

After checking on Li Luo and finding she was only asleep, Mo Ling had started to tidy up the suddenly enlarged space.

’But no matter how I organize it, it still feels empty.’

”It would be so nice to put a computer here, and a sofa over there.”

Mo Ling felt a pang of regret that he hadn’t properly explored Dawn City when they went.

”If only I’d gone to a furniture store back then...”

The long-awaited peace allowed Mo Ling’s mind to wander, and he began to let his thoughts drift.

...

After checking her nameplate, Li Luo immediately took out her electronic screen and started looking up information on the fourth floor of the Abyss.

The faint glow illuminated her face and interrupted Mo Ling’s idle thoughts.

”Still so impatient.”

Li Luo could never sit still; she always seemed to be in a rush.

Mo Ling sighed helplessly and maneuvered the Block closer.

...

”Sky Island Fault,” a strange name.

Humanity had argued many times over whether this place should truly be considered one of the Abyss’s floors.

It was the region connecting the upper and lower parts of the Abyss, composed of countless floating islands.

Compared to the vibrant first three floors, this place was deathly still.

There were no bizarre biomes or rich relics. The fractured sky islands confined the development of civilizations to small, narrow areas. Once a civilization reached a certain stage, it would come to an abrupt end.

The vast sea of clouds and mist carried dangerous and strange rules of alteration, and the environment on each Sky Island was extremely unstable.

Moving between Sky Islands was even more difficult. It not only required a means of flight but also necessitated passing through those dangerous, altering clouds. Only on a clear day was there a chance to see distant Sky Islands.

Some researchers from Dawn City believed the Sky Island Fault was just a buffer zone and couldn’t be considered a floor of the Abyss, but the first vanguard team to arrive here defied popular opinion and designated it as the fourth floor of the Abyss.

”If you had been to the Abyss yourselves, you would surely understand what makes it special...”

At the time, no one could understand what the vanguard team meant.

It wasn’t until humanity reached the deeper floors that they slowly began to understand the importance of the Sky Island Fault.

This place was not just a buffer zone, but a barrier—a barrier preventing certain things from spreading upward.

These Sky Islands were like nails driven into the spine of the Abyss, immobilizing the things in the depths below...

’The things in the depths below?’

Li Luo picked up the electronic screen and began to search curiously.

However, the two words ”INSUFFICIENT PERMISSION” appeared on the screen in large letters.

The data on the lower half of the Abyss seemed to have been deliberately hidden.

Seeing the information come to such an abrupt halt, Mo Ling also felt his curiosity piqued. He quickly wrote a message on the electronic screen and sent it to Li Luo.

”What kind of place is the lower half of the Abyss?”

Li Luo saw Mo Ling’s question and shook her head.

”That information is all hidden. Even in our classes, they would only gloss over it.”

”There’s a consensus in human society—only those who have been to the lower half of the Abyss are qualified to know the information about those places.”

”When you reach the fifth floor, you’re qualified to know about the fifth floor. When you reach the sixth, you’re qualified to know about the sixth. No one can violate this rule.”

”Why?” Mo Ling asked, confused.

”It’s a form of protection. Without experiencing it firsthand, you would be contaminated. It’s like describing the existence of water to someone who has never seen it—they would go mad.”

”Formless, colorless, odorless, able to bear immense weight, yet incredibly soft... Someone who has never seen water would endlessly try to imagine its existence until their brain burns out and they fall into obsession.”

At this, Li Luo paused and looked seriously at the Block.

”On my first day of Abyss class, that’s what the teacher told us, and they kept emphasizing it afterward.”

”Knowledge is a form of contamination. You can’t stop yourself from imagining it until it’s deep in your bones, and you’re beyond cure.”

”If someone tells you not to think of an elephant, you’ll constantly think of an elephant. For someone who has never seen an elephant, this is an even greater poison. They would go crazy searching for information about it.”

”Looking for pictures of elephants, videos, written descriptions... Even after information about elephants floods their brain, they still won’t be satisfied. They’ll want to see an elephant in person.”

”Seeing an elephant is easy, but seeing the Abyss is not. To develop a craving for the Abyss is a very terrifying thing.”

”So, you can’t even know about it. You can’t even hear the word ’elephant.’”

”It’s a form of protection.”

Li Luo’s calm voice echoed around the Block, yet her soft words pierced straight through to Mo Ling’s heart.

”A form of protection?”

Mo Ling had started to overlook how terrifying the Abyss was. The Block’s power had always given him the confidence to face its strange and treacherous events.

’But the Abyss wasn’t that simple...’

The wind blew peacefully across the grass. Faint sunlight passed through the clouds and mist, over the treetops, and shone upon the Block.

Li Luo took a deep breath, savoring the hard-won peace, and the serious expression on her face gradually faded.

”But we’ll find out eventually.”

”This is only the fourth floor. We’ll make it to the fifth, the sixth... all the way to the very bottom of the Abyss. Then we’ll know everything.”

As Li Luo spoke, she seemed to remember something, and a hint of sorrow appeared in her eyes.

”We... we will make it, won’t we?”
