Chapter 1080: Chapter 1079: Old Patriarch of Lin Family

In the Capital City, the Lin family.

In the backyard, a Buddha Hall had been constructed, and an elderly woman dressed in simple plain clothes, holding a string of prayer beads in her hand, knelt on a cushion beneath a large statue of Guanyin.

She recited Buddhist scriptures.

Before her, even the master of the mighty Lin family, Lin Zhankun, could only stand and wait respectfully.

For this old woman was the Old Ancestor of the Lin Family, the person of the highest standing!

This Old Patriarch of the Lin Family, even in the times when Grandpa Lin Dong was alive, had been a strong woman who had firmly held the reins of power within the family.

Legend had it, she came from the mysterious holy land, ”Kunlun”!

After reciting scriptures for a full hour, she slowly opened her eyes and, seeing her son Lin Zhankun, asked with kindness, ”Zhankun, what brings you here?”

Lin Zhankun reported the matter of Lin Dong to the old matriarch.

After listening, the Old Patriarch of Lin Family said meaningfully, ”He truly is his father’s son, indeed superior in every way compared to Tian Ce!”

”Mother, beforehand using your edict, I had commissioned King Kunlun to eliminated him before his half-year agreement with Tian Ce, to prevent future problems,” Lin Zhankun said.

The Old Patriarch of Lin Family smiled slightly and nodded, ”Did King Kunlun go?”

Lin Zhankun shook his head, ”He was planning to go these few days, but that kid released news. He said he would visit King Kunlun in the Capital City in one month...”

Upon hearing this, the Old Patriarch of Lin Family said gravely, ”He is indeed clever. By doing so, he has also bought himself an additional month.”

”But what can change in just one month?”

Lin Zhankun nodded, ”Then Mother, should we still bother with him?”

The Old Patriarch of Lin Family shook her head, ”No need to bother with him anymore, leave him to King Kunlun to deal with! You’ve said yourself he’s now capable of killing a Stage Five Grandmaster like Elder Wu and a Third Stage Grandmaster like Elder Gong, even if you wanted to intervene, could you handle him?”

”Your giftedness, from the moment you were born, was destined to be incomparable to your ’big brother’!”

”Just like Tian Ce, from birth, he was destined to fall short of him!”

”Yet, sometimes that’s just the way the world works, it’s not about being more excellent or talented, it doesn’t guarantee you a longer life. In the end, it’s not about money, power, or strength that we compare... ultimately, it’s about who lives the longest...”

”It’s like your father, who was better than me in every aspect, more talented, stronger, with keener insights than me... yet in this regard, he can’t compare to me.”

As she spoke these words, she stood up with the aid of her walking stick and left the backyard.

Lin Zhankun couldn’t help but ask, ”Mother, where are you going?”

”To find Xiaoxue, I genuinely like that girl. She reminds me of myself when I was young...” the Old Patriarch of Lin Family responded with a cheerful smile.

The Xiaoxue she mentioned was none other than Qiao Xue.

Lin Zhankun was puzzled; why did the Old Ancestor like Qiao Xue so much. Was it because she was to become her granddaughter-in-law in the future?

And the Old Ancestor said the girl reminded her of herself?

How so?

Lin Zhankun felt they were nothing alike at all.

How could that girl compare to her mother?

Her mother had been the revered teacher to the former King Kunlun, Lin Zhantian, and Chen Fei...

Even the King Kunlun, who had dominated the Dragon Rankings for decades, dared not claim to be stronger than his mother!

And Qiao Xue, that girl, wasn’t even a martial artist. How could she resemble his mother?

...

In another small courtyard in the Capital City.

The sky drizzled steadily.

The raindrops pattered against the lotus leaves in the neighboring pond.

A man, dressed in green clothes, reclined lazily on a bamboo chair, quietly listening to the sound of the rain.

Reclined amongst the bamboo, he listened to the lotus in the rain.

Who could grant me back my youth?

”Master, has that Master Lin gone mad? He actually took the initiative to say that he will visit the Capital City to find you in one month!” a voice echoed from the side.

The man in green laughingly said, ”Seven Kills, he is much more clever than you.”

”Master, I don’t understand.” Seven Kills shook his head; wasn’t this openly seeking death?

”He thinks if he doesn’t come find me in a month, he won’t live for a few more days,” King Kunlun said with a faint smile.

”Master, then will you really kill him in a month?” Seven Kills asked, clenching his fist.

”Of course,” King Kunlun nodded, ”He must die, he absolutely must die! If I don’t kill him, someone else will.”

Seven Kills’ eyes gleamed, ”That’s great, he’s finally going to die!”

King Kunlun did not speak but looked toward the open space beside the distant pond.

”Master, why do you keep coming here to listen to the rain lately?” Seven Kills asked, puzzled.

”Perhaps it’s because I’m getting old,” King Kunlun sighed.

Seven Kills was even more confused, ”Master, with your strength, living for a few hundred years is completely possible. You’re only in your fifties, still very young.”

”You don’t understand,” King Kunlun shook his head, ”a person could live for ten thousand years, but once he is over thirty, what he misses the most is being eighteen years old.”

”For me, if it were possible, I’d give everything I have to go back to when I was eighteen...”

”That year, I had my master, my second junior brother, and my third junior sister... That year, I too, like this, listened to the rain while drinking wine. Only back then, I could watch them being scolded by our master and laugh heartily. But now, listening to the rain is just that, and drinking wine is just that...”

Seven Kills didn’t understand what was so good about being eighteen.

A weak, poor nobody, it was nothing exciting!

He preferred the present!

Strong and wealthy.

He surely would never understand.

Because everyone’s experience at eighteen is different...
