Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain

Chapter 836: Chapter 836 Eyes of the Holy Doctor

Traditional Chinese Medicine has four diagnostic methods, namely ’inspection’, listening, questioning, and palpation.

Among these, inspection is the foremost of the four diagnostic methods.

Therefore, it is of utmost importance.

It is said that ’to know by inspection is divine’.

In ancient times in Dragon Country, the medical sage Zhang Zhongjing’s skills in inspection had reached an almost divine and sublime level.

How divine was he?

Back then, he predicted through ’inspection’ that Wang Zhongxuan would develop eyebrows like caterpillars in 20 years, and then die six months later.

And indeed, it came true!

That’s how divine his ability had become.

Through inspection, he could predict a person’s illness and life or death 20 years in advance.

However, inspection is not as simple as what the literal meaning might suggest.

It is not just about diagnosing diseases from some superficial symptoms observed on a person.

That is just the most superficial part of ’inspection’.

For instance, the diagnosis of liver cancer in the first patient was made from his apparent symptoms.

This is nothing profound, as any somewhat renowned practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine could diagnose it.

At the moment, Lin Dong and Li Huanzhen both seemed to have anticipated this result.

The first patient obviously wasn’t enough to determine who was stronger or weaker between them.

At the moment, both turned their gazes towards the second patient simultaneously.

Then they both looked at his complexion at the same time!

Next, the two of them spoke in unison once again.

”I have diagnosed his illness!”

Immediately, the two returned to the table and began writing down their answers.

Lin Dong wrote: ”Through facial diagnosis in inspection, I observed that this person’s complexion is pale, ears are small and thin, under-eye areas dark and satchels, and chin sharp and small, indicating severe kidney deficiency!”

Li Huanzhen’s diagnostic results were consistent with Lin Dong’s.

Their method of diagnosing the second patient was also through ’facial diagnosis’ in inspection!

Inspection also includes ’facial diagnosis’, hand diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, etc.

Diagnosing diseases by observing the eyes, ears, complexion, teeth, wrinkles, hair, throat...

The Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic says:

”The Twelve Meridians and 365 Collaterals, their blood and Qi will all reach the face and manifest through the orifices!”

Basically, all symptoms can be reflected on the body through the meridians and Qi blood.

Astute Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine are able to notice these subtle bodily changes.

Even more keenly than the instruments in Western medicine.

The diagnosis of the second patient’s symptoms by the two of them was based on the changes in Qi blood manifested on his face, diagnosing his kidney deficiency.

Lady Hua was increasingly surprised at this point.

Western doctors also look for these symptoms, but there is a fundamental difference from what Traditional Chinese Medicine observes. They directly look at the lesion, like where there is a lump, where there is edema, where there is bruising, where there is purpling, yellowing of the complexion, and so on... But these are already obvious lesions manifesting on the surface.

To notice them at this stage, in the eyes of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is already too late.

This is where the fundamental difference lies between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine.

Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnoses based on meridians, Qi blood, and such factors, allowing the detection of diseases much earlier, thereby facilitating prevention and treatment.

Often, this makes treating the sickness much simpler!

Of course, detecting these changes in meridians, Qi blood, and signs is not something just anyone can see clearly.

Like the third patient that Lin Dong and Li Huanzhen were about to examine.

To a Western Medicine Expert like Lady Hua, this third patient exhibited absolutely no symptoms.

She didn’t have cauliflower-like growths on her nose like the first patient.

And she didn’t show the sickly pale complexion or dark under-eye areas like the second person.

To the naked eye, she looked just like a healthy individual.

Even Lady Hua thought she was a healthy person.

But in fact, she was also plagued by a hidden illness!

Without waiting for her to speak, Lin Dong and Li Huanzhen spoke in unison again:

”I have made the diagnosis.”

Next, they both concurrently wrote down their diagnosis for her.

”Dilated pupils, diagnosis of insomnia, vegetative neurosis.”

As soon as the two of them presented their diagnosis, Lady Hua, after looking it over, was even more astonished.

She compared it with the patient’s medical records.

And it was indeed the case!

”Hiss~~”

She couldn’t help but gasp and then asked, ”How did you see her dilated pupils? How come I didn’t notice them?”

Indeed, such subtle physiological changes were not perceivable to her even as a Western Medicine Expert.

Lin Dong smiled slightly and responded, ”That’s the magic of ’inspection’ in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Lady Hua, if you are interested in the future, you can ask Mister Hua to teach you.”

Lady Hua suddenly developed a strong interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

At this moment, Li Huanzhen’s expression became slightly grim, saying, ”I didn’t think you had some skill.”

”However, the patients coming up won’t be easy to diagnose.”

”We will soon determine the winner!”

Lin Dong laughingly said, ”Indeed, we will soon determine the winner.”

At this time, the two of them then looked towards the fourth person.

This fourth person was harder to diagnose than the previous three.

Because his ’sign’ wasn’t on the surface.

It was on his tongue.

”Stick out your tongue!” Li Huanzhen prepared to diagnose this person’s illness through ’tongue diagnosis’.

But before he could stick out his tongue, Lin Dong’s eyes suddenly twinkled, and then he spoke out:

”I have already made the diagnosis!”

”What?” Hearing this, Li Huanzhen naturally didn’t believe it, ”He hasn’t even stuck out his tongue yet, how did you diagnose it?”

”You must be talking nonsense!”

Lin Dong countered, ”Who says that one has to rely on tongue diagnosis to discern his illness?”

”Can’t we just use our eyes?”

”Directly perceive with the eyes?” Li Huanzhen suddenly thought of a possibility, ”No, impossible!”

”You couldn’t have awakened the ’Eyes of the Holy Doctor’, impossible!”

”In the whole world, only my master has awakened the ’Eyes of the Holy Doctor’; you can’t possibly reach my master’s level...”

He murmured, absolutely unwilling to believe the possibility he had considered.
