From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1047: Chapter 1043: Dragon Boat Festival (Second Update)

As for Mu Dalang, ever since that incident happened, he no longer comes to the Old Mu Family home and is wholeheartedly occupied with the work at the pig farm.

By the end of April, the pig farm was completed, and Huang Bita was also in good health.

She took on all the tasks of raising pigs, cutting pig feed, and growing vegetables, keeping herself happily busy at home.

Mu Dalang, on the other hand, was outside, asking people for advice on how to raise pigs and castrate them.

He also went out to buy pork and sold the purchased pork to nearby villages, earning a small profit margin.

Life was self-sufficient, at least not as Old Mrs. Mu had predicted, starving to death out there!

When the pigsty was first completed, Mu Dalang called Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng, and bought a bunch of piglets, gradually expanding the scale of the pig farm.

The sow from Wang Erma’s family was also successfully moved to the pig farm of Mu Dalang and Mu Shuangshuang.

The most valuable thing in Wang Erma’s family was that old sow, with its large head and big ears, also particularly prolific, each litter of piglets all growing robustly.

Back then, Wang Erma relied on this sow to gradually make his family’s foundation solid.

If he hadn’t made some money later and turned greedy, always selling dead and spoiled meat to villagers and didn’t allow anyone to speak ill of him, retaliating against anyone who did, he wouldn’t have been disliked by the villagers.

So much so that when he stumbled later, there wasn’t a single person who spoke a good word for him.

Business at the restaurant improved once again after Mu Shuangshuang introduced new dishes.

Burgers and fried chicken, along with brined dishes and skewers, became almost mandatory orders for guests, and the steward and the staff at the restaurant were kept so busy they didn’t even have a chance to catch their breath.

Mu Shuangshuang kept her promise — as the restaurant thrived, wages would be increased.

She raised the wages for everyone in the restaurant. They were tired, but seeing the increasing wages each month, everyone couldn’t stop smiling, and complaints were nowhere to be found.

After all, no one thinks silver feels too hot to handle!

As the restaurant thrived, Mu Shuangshuang’s pockets also swelled with silver coins, finally allowing her to allocate some money for other ventures, such as building a new house for her family.

The current house for the third branch was really cramped; five family members in just two rooms, with Xiao Han and Little Zhi still sleeping in Mu Dashan and Yu Si Niang’s room.

It was very inconvenient, but there was no choice; the family didn’t have money before, and the restaurant hadn’t been open for long.

This time, Mu Shuangshuang planned to find another place to build a house in Er Gui Village, not wanting to stay with the Old Mu Family.

However, this was just a temporary plan because actually implementing it, whether finding a place or building a house, would take quite a bit of time and effort.

——

May 5th, Dragon Boat Festival!

Mu Shuangshuang, Lu Yuanfeng, and Yu Dahai discussed that, after working so hard for so long, the restaurant hadn’t had a single day off, so why not take this opportunity during the festival to give the staff a three-day holiday?

Firstly, it would allow everyone to rest, and secondly, it would give everyone a chance to spend time with their families.

As for wages, they would still be paid as usual!

The staff was very grateful to the two owners and one steward, feeling ever more strongly that Chengfeng Restaurant was different from other places.

They, as staff, could earn money too! Not only for sustenance but also respected in the process.

Third Branch of the Mu Family

Mu Shuangshuang got up early in the morning. After making breakfast for everyone, she started preparing to make zongzi.

The bamboo leaves had been brought by Lu Yuanfeng three days before and soaked in clear water for three days, but they still hadn’t been washed. The rice had been soaked the night before.

Just making zongzi was estimated to take the entire morning.

Mu Shuangshuang found a long bench, placed the rice in a basket, set the basket on the bench, and prepared various fillings next to it.

Of all the zongzi she had tasted during the Dragon Boat Festival, the simplest was the plain one without any filling.

Then there were soy sauce zong, meat zongzi, and those filled with peanuts and red bean paste.

In short, Mu Shuangshuang’s only task today was to make a lot of zongzi.

Lu Yuanfeng didn’t have breakfast at the third branch in the morning, and Yuanbao didn’t come either.

But halfway through wrapping zongzi, Lu Yuanfeng returned.

He had a game caught in the mountains strapped to his back and was holding Yuanbao by his hand.

Yuanbao had a quiver on his back; it seemed the two brothers had gone up the mountain together.

When they entered the courtyard of the third branch, upon seeing Mu Shuangshuang and the wrapped zongzi, Yuanbao rushed up.

”Wow, wow, Sister Shuangshuang, zongzi, you actually know how to make zongzi!” Yuanbao exclaimed exaggeratedly.

”Do I know so little?” Mu Shuangshuang raised an eyebrow, smiling as she asked.

Yuanbao quickly nodded, ”Sister Shuangshuang knows a lot!”

However, when Yuanbao saw the other fillings Mu Shuangshuang had prepared, he called out again.

”Sister Shuangshuang, what is this? How come there’s meat?

And red beans, peanuts, are these all to be wrapped in the zongzi?”

Yuanbao’s shouting caught the attention of Lu Yuanfeng and Yu Si Niang, who was inside stitching shoe soles.

The two of them reached Mu Shuangshuang almost simultaneously, both with a surprised look.

”Shuangshuang, what is this...?”

The task of wrapping zongzi was organized entirely by Mu Shuangshuang herself, except for the bamboo leaves brought by Lu Yuanfeng.

”Hehe, I’m just trying it out for fun. There are vegetarian fillings in buns, so shouldn’t zongzi have other fillings too?” said Mu Shuangshuang, a little guilty.

She previously thought people here must have seen meat zongzi and other stuffed zongzi.

But she might have overthought it; people here had only seen plain zongzi.

”Since it’s something new, we can look forward to it now,” said Yu Si Niang.

”Shuangshuang, teach me how to wrap zongzi!”

Lu Yuanfeng placed the game properly, put the bow and arrows in Mu Shuangshuang’s room, washed his hands, and came out to speak to Mu Shuangshuang.

”Alright, grab two bamboo leaves and make it with me!”

Mu Shuangshuang picked up the bamboo leaves herself, and once Lu Yuanfeng had done the same, she began demonstrating.

Wrapping zongzi wasn’t much of a difficult task, but without skill, the wrapped zongzi could either look ugly or not be wrapped tightly.

Lu Yuanfeng tried three consecutive zongzi, but they all had issues.

They looked awful, but fortunately, they were not concerned with appearances, as long as the zongzi was delicious.

Back at the third branch, they were happily wrapping zongzi, while at the Old Mu Family home, everyone gathered around a table, but what they were doing had nothing to do with zongzi.

Today was the Dragon Boat Festival, but it was also the day before Mu Xiangxiang’s wedding.

Everything that needed attention had to be discussed in advance.

Mr. Mu gathered everyone and discussed the matters several times, hoping no mistakes would be made.

Mrs. Lin listened until calluses formed in her ears and finally couldn’t help but start muttering, ”On such a festive day, not wrapping zongzi, only dealing with this stuff.”

”Isn’t it just a wedding? Is it worth the whole family skipping the festival to deal with that matter?”
