From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1024: Chapter 1020: Each Household Contributes for the Sister-in-Law’s Dowry (Second Update)

”What? You still want silver? Are you crazy?” Old Mrs. Mu shouted loudly.

Matchmaker Sun rolled her eyes at Old Mrs. Mu and continued, ”I haven’t finished talking yet, why are you shouting blindly?”

”Da Li doesn’t have any problems, he is willing to work and is honest. But your Mu Xiangxiang has big issues, let’s not mention her madness or her stabbing someone with a knife last time.

But how much does she eat in one meal? Six steamed buns aren’t enough, and after that she still wants a bowl of meat soup, who can afford that?

I, Matchmaker Sun, dare to declare today, just based on the fact that your daughter eats so much, no family would dare to want her, not even Wang San who’s single in the village.”

Matchmaker Sun spoke quite bluntly.

Old Mrs. Mu couldn’t help but retort, ”Just like Wang San, is he even worthy of our Xiangxiang?”

Matchmaker Sun was speechless, she looked at Mr. Mu.

In the Old Mu Family, the one who makes the final decision is still Mr. Mu.

Mr. Mu pondered for a moment but still thought Matchmaker Sun was right.

Xiangxiang is indeed Da De’s sister, as they say, the scholar’s sister.

But just that mouth of hers that never seems to be full, no one dares to marry her.

Plus, last time with the marriage arrangements with the Qin family, nobody talked about it on the surface, but behind the scenes, they were spreading rumors that Xiangxiang is cursed for marriage, expecting them to marry Xiangxiang was impossible.

”How much silver does the Sun Family want?” Mr. Mu asked calmly.

”Ten taels of silver, this ten taels is for the dowry, my brother and sister-in-law don’t want it, all for Da Li and Xiangxiang!” Matchmaker Sun answered.

”What? Ten taels? Why don’t you just rob?”

This time, it was Mrs. Lin who had just made dinner and was about to call everyone to eat.

As soon as she heard the Sun family wanted ten taels of silver, she exploded immediately.

She wanted nothing more than to tear Matchmaker Sun’s mouth apart.

In comparison, Old Mrs. Mu had no reaction, ten taels of silver, it was much less than she had anticipated.

Old Mrs. Mu had long thought when her daughter married, she’d accompany her with ten or twenty taels, so her daughter could hold her ground in her husband’s family, and no one would dare bully her.

”Mother, say something, this old hag opens her mouth like a lion, aren’t you going to tear her mouth apart?” Mrs. Lin got anxious, urging Old Mrs. Mu to get angry.

Old Mrs. Mu didn’t get angry at all, instead she said, ”I’ll discuss this matter with the old man, but no matter what, Xiangxiang’s dowry can only be used by her, no one else is allowed to touch it!”

Mrs. Lin, standing by, felt a sense of dread upon hearing Old Mrs. Mu’s words.

The old hag was actually planning on giving these ten taels of silver. Ten taels of silver, for an average family, could marry off three brides.

Yet this stubborn old woman was giving so much money to someone already gone.

The more Mrs. Lin thought about it, the more wrong it seemed.

But now she had no one to discuss with, it was difficult to find someone to offer advice.

Suddenly, Mrs. Lin thought of her daughter Qing, the girl who always disliked her so-called Aunt Mu Xiangxiang.

Might as well hear her opinion.

While Old Mrs. Mu and Matchmaker Sun were still talking, Mrs. Lin secretly ran back to her own room.

At this moment Mu Qingqing was doing embroidery in her room, a piece of embroidery that Mu Qingqing had been working on for nearly two months, almost finished.

Mrs. Lin was not interested in what Mu Qingqing was embroidering, she went straight up and said to Mu Qingqing, ”Qing, your grandma really is biased.

Your aunt has done so many wrongs, today Matchmaker Sun came, saying Sun Dali wants to marry your aunt, do you know how much silver your grandma is willing to give?”

Mrs. Lin muttered to herself.

Seeing Mu Qingqing not looking up, she hurriedly said, ”Ten taels, your grandma is actually willing to give ten taels of silver to that pig spirit.”

Mu Qingqing listened to this, her hand with the silver needle twitched and directly poked into her flesh.

Immediately, it hurt her to the point of gritting her teeth.

Her face became a bit distorted, but it quickly returned to calm.

”Is this my grandma’s idea or my grandpa’s?” Mu Qingqing couldn’t help but ask.

”What do you think? Although your grandpa hasn’t shown as much affection towards your aunt as before these days.

But you know, your grandma is the one who manages the backyard and finances in this house, she decides how much to take, what can your grandpa say?

It’s quite certain that the ten taels of silver won’t run away. I’m really not reconciled. They’re all daughters, why should that pig spirit’s dowry be more plentiful than anyone else’s?”

The more Mrs. Lin thought, the more unbalanced she felt.

She had been slogging like an ox for many years in the Mu Family, got no benefits, and when something happened, fists were swung her way, her injuries hadn’t even healed.

Mu Qingqing was also angry.

But what use is being angry?

Her grandma is willing to give, surely she won’t stop her, and her grandma wouldn’t listen to her anyway.

Looking down at the embroidery in her hand, Mu Qingqing squinted her eyes.

She felt the old Mu family was becoming increasingly unbearable.

She needed to finish the embroidery soon, then go to the Liu family.

”Mother, for this matter, you should ask my father to handle it. My elder uncle isn’t here, my father is the eldest son in the family.

My grandmother will more or less listen to my father.”

Mu Qingqing didn’t want to get involved in this matter herself, after all, she was just a granddaughter, having no say in the Old Mu Family.

”Yes, your father certainly wouldn’t want your grandparents to use ten taels of silver for Xiangxiang’s dowry.

And your fifth uncle, even though he ran off, based on my understanding of him, maybe he’s at your father’s place. If I mention this, they’ll definitely come back to stop it.”

After Mrs. Lin figured this out, she decided to go to the mine where her husband worked to take care of the matter that night.

----

In the front courtyard of the Old Mu Family, due to Old Mrs. Mu’s change in attitude, Matchmaker Sun discussed some matters with Mr. Mu.

Generally, they were about the marriage.

As for the specific ceremony and process, they needed Mr. Mu and Old Mrs. Mu to agree to the Sun family’s requests before continuing to discuss.

After sending Matchmaker Sun away, Mr. Mu and Old Mrs. Mu were still standing in the courtyard, even the people from the fourth room didn’t leave.

Mr. Mu took a drag of dry tobacco and asked Old Mrs. Mu, ”Have you really decided to give ten taels of silver as a dowry for Xiangxiang to marry into the Sun family?”

”That’s absolutely right, our daughter has never suffered hardship since she was young. After she gets married, washing dishes, cooking, and farming shouldn’t be done by her.

The only solution is to accompany the marriage with a generous dowry, then the old hag from the Sun family would surely treat her well and let her avoid chores.”

Old Mrs. Mu spoke frankly.

”But where would our family get this much money?” Mr. Mu asked.

If it was before, maybe there was, but now the Old Mu Family was almost as empty.

The money was all given to the eldest son to go to the Capital for exams.

Plus, this time when Da Lang split from the family, he took the originally acquired three and a half silver taels. The Old Mu Family simply doesn’t have the money for the Sun family.

”Who said we don’t have any? The mother’s family of the eldest, the mother’s family of the second, the third and fourth, and the fifth, if each person contributes a bit, and we sell two acres of land, wouldn’t that be enough?”
