From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 1009: Chapter 1005: The Old Man’s Resolve (First Update)

Old Mrs. Mu and Aunt Sun were hurling curses at each other, and wrestling too, causing such a commotion that several onlookers gathered.

Word spread quickly among the villagers, and soon enough, a crowd had surrounded Sun Dali’s yard.

The crowd pointed fingers at the two old women but nobody stepped forward to separate the fighting ladies.

”What’s going on here? Isn’t this girl that crazy daughter from the Old Mu Family? How did she get out?” someone asked.

”Yeah, what’s Xiangxiang doing next to Dali? Could there be something going on between them? Have they done something shameful behind their families’ backs?” another suggested.

”I think it’s possible. Didn’t Matchmaker Sun want to arrange for Dali and the young girl from the Old Mu Family to marry? Though it was later called off, who’s to say the young ones didn’t secretly meet after knowing about it.”

”Who knows, scandals often start this way!”

The crowd chimed in, each gossip more scandalous than the last.

Because of these words, Old Mrs. Mu got distracted and ended up being shoved to the ground by Sun Dali’s mother.

Even while pinned down, Old Mrs. Mu kept cursing and shouting.

”You nasty woman, how dare you hit me! My son is a scholar; I’ll have your whole family thrown into jail!” Old Mrs. Mu shouted.

With a scholar for a son, Old Mrs. Mu was more arrogant than anyone.

Some sharp-eyed villagers felt that seizing this opportunity could earn the goodwill of the Mu Family.

They quietly went to find Mr. Mu.

By the time Mr. Mu arrived at Sun Dali’s place, Old Mrs. Mu and Sun Dali’s mother were in sorry states.

Their hair was a tangled mess, indistinguishable from having been chewed by dogs.

Not only that, but even Old Mrs. Mu’s blouse was torn. If not for the thick clothes of the season, she would’ve been exposed.

Mr. Mu was extremely furious. He stepped up, intending to drag the fighting women apart.

But who’s to say, with the women locked in a furious brawl, anyone who approached was subject to a flurry of scratches; Mr. Mu’s face was clawed red, and he cried out in pain.

Covering his face bleeding from the scratches, Mr. Mu loudly berated, ”Are you two not embarrassed enough?

Look around you! How many people are standing here! And listen to what they’re saying!”

Old Mrs. Mu and Sun Dali’s mother glanced around.

They were almost scared to death; nearly half the village had gathered, pointing their fingers at their children.

Mu Xiangxiang hid in the corner of the yard wall, while Sun Dali stood nearby, anxious with his eyes red.

The crowd’s gossip hit the two women’s ears without missing a beat.

Looking at the dense crowd blocking their way and then at their own children, begrudgingly, they separated.

Sun Dali’s mother stepped forward, with her messy hair, confronting Mr. Mu: ”Get your wife out of here. The Sun family won’t allow any Mu Family members to step foot in our place!”

Old Mrs. Mu, hearing this, was almost angered to death, she rushed forward again, ready to fight Sun Dali’s mother.

But Mr. Mu stopped her with his words.

Mr. Mu said, ”Today’s mess, you caused it. If you want people to laugh at Xiangxiang, you go right ahead and make a fuss! After all, if things go wrong, she’s the one who’s embarrassed!”

Mr. Mu’s face showed no kindness, nor was his mood pleasant.

He knew his wife liked to make trouble, but hadn’t expected her to stir up such a big one so early in the morning.

What’s worse, the whole village knew about it.

The Mu Family had now become a laughing stock for the entire village; in the future, they didn’t know how they could maintain their footing in Er Gui Village.

The situation of the young girl and the villagers’ disdainful glares made Old Mrs. Mu regain some sense.

She threatened, ”Qin Guihua, you just wait, our Mu Family won’t let this go easily. You better be careful with your pig-like son!”

Sun Dali’s mother was also angry, she retorted: ”I’m waiting, I really want to see what the scholar’s mother can do today. Just because you’re a scholar’s mother, doesn’t mean you can manipulate your daughter to trick us into feeding her at our house.

Our cured meat, the rice in the can, has been devoured by your pig-brained daughter! Don’t say she wants to be my son’s wife, even if you beg on your knees, we won’t accept such a pig-brained daughter-in-law!”

”You...”

The battle was barely finished when it seemed about to ignite again, but Mr. Mu released his grip, grabbed one each, and took Mu Xiangxiang and Old Mrs. Mu back to the Old Mu Family.

Back at the Old Mu Family house, Mr. Mu let go of Old Mrs. Mu’s hand but dragged Mu Xiangxiang to the yard of the main house, where he locked her in his room.

No matter how Mu Xiangxiang shouted, he locked the door tight.

”Dad, what are you doing? Why lock me up, Dad, let me out, I’m hungry!”

Mu Xiangxiang had left home early to have breakfast at the Sun family, but now she hadn’t eaten, and her stomach was growling continuously.

She felt like she was about to die.

Mr. Mu yelled to Mu Xiangxiang, ”Xiangxiang, the Sun family’s words are right. You, a young girl, eat as much as five or six men at each meal.

And after all this eating, you don’t gain weight and you don’t work. From now on, you’re not allowed to eat so much, you’ll only eat as much as the family.

Eat what the family eats, and whenever you get over this eating addiction, that’s when you can come out!”

Mr. Mu was serious about this.

He wouldn’t compromise anymore; anyone who dared stir trouble over Xiangxiang again, whether it be his wife or not, he wouldn’t let go without action!

Old Mrs. Mu followed behind Mr. Mu, but when she entered the yard, she found Mu Xiangxiang locked in the room.

Old Mrs. Mu questioned Mr. Mu: ”Old man, what are you doing? You have no right to lock Xiangxiang up. She’s a person, not livestock. Hurry and release her!”

”Xiangxiang’s mother, the key’s with me. In the future, delivery of meals and all, I’ll handle it myself!

Xiangxiang can only eat one bowl each meal, not a bit more!

Moreover, if you want Xiangxiang to have an extra bowl, you’ll give up one bowl yourself.”

Having said this, Mr. Mu took the key and left the yard.

Mu Xiangxiang was inside yelling and shouting, sometimes that she was hungry, other times begging to come out.

Old Mrs. Mu was restless outside but she didn’t have the key, couldn’t get in, and her daughter couldn’t come out.

”Mom, let me out. If you don’t let me out, I’ll die of hunger...” Mu Xiangxiang complained.

Old Mrs. Mu felt heartbroken: ”Xiangxiang, your dad took the key, mom... mom will go ask for it, mom knows you’re hungry, don’t do anything silly, wait a bit longer!”

”Mom, I’m hungry...”

Old Mrs. Mu wiped her tears and went to find Mr. Mu in hopes of releasing Mu Xiangxiang.

She hadn’t just left when another shadow quickly slipped into the yard, heading straight for Mu Xiangxiang’s door.
