Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Rise and Fall of the Nation, Every Citizen Has a Responsibility!

“`

“These cities captured by the demon army have now turned into lands of death. Except for those who escaped, everyone else was brutally killed by demons,” Zhang Qichu said.

Lin Feng looked grim and said through clenched teeth, “These demons are truly despicable. During the battle in the Middle Ages, we showed mercy by not exterminating them, yet they come out to wreak havoc and slaughter living beings. They deserve to die.”

After a pause, Lin Feng said, “I wonder to which faction these demonic forces belong?”

Lin Feng inquired because there were many branches of demonic forces nowadays.

The Demon Clan mostly resided in the dark, damp underworld.

...

The Demon Clan, on the other hand, was divided into one hundred and eight gathering places.

Each Demon Clan gathering place was filled with powerful beings.

Some of these Demon Clan gathering places were located in the overseas world, while others were within the Heavenly Clan Continent.

“I heard that this time, the subordinates of the Underworld Blood Demon Emperor and the Overseas Flame Demon King joined hands to ravage the East County Divine Land. Our True Martial Country is just one of the victimized nations. The surrounding countries are reportedly even worse off, with the demonic forces in Taixuan Country directly threatening the capital,” Zhang Qichu said.

“What is the academy planning to do now?” Lin Feng asked.

“The academy plans to follow the True Martial Country’s royal decree by organizing forces to besiege the invading demons in True Martial Country and drive all these demons out, restoring a bright and clear sky to the country,” Zhang Qichu said.

“The rise and fall of a nation concerns every individual. I am willing to use my three-foot Green Blade Sword to drink the blood of demons,” Lin Feng said coldly.

“Junior Brother, I am planning the same. I heard that the academy is offering rewards for hunting demons. Killing an ordinary demon earns a thousand points, killing a ten-man commander level demon earns ten thousand points, killing a hundred-man commander level demon earns one hundred thousand points, and killing a thousand-man commander level demon earns a million points. If one can kill a ten-thousand-man commander level demon, the reward is ten million points,” Zhang Qichu said.

Jialan Academy students could use these points to enter the Cultivation Tower, so after the academy announced the rewards, it caused a great stir.

“The academy has certainly invested heavily,” Lin Feng nodded.

Now that Lin Feng was penniless, he could take this opportunity to hunt demons and accumulate points, so that in the future, he could enter the Cultivation Tower for secluded cultivation.

Zhang Qichu said, “Junior Brother, I’ll find a few fellow disciples, so we can go together and look out for each other.”

“Alright,” Lin Feng nodded.

The next day, Zhang Qichu arrived with five fellow disciples.

These five were students of the Changhe Branch and had a close relationship with Zhang Qichu. As Lin Feng lived with Zhang Qichu, he was also very familiar with them.

The handsome student in purple was named Wang Xuanming.

The slightly plump student was called Zhang Muzhi.

The frail student was named Li Kun.

The short student, nicknamed “Mouse,” was actually named Ouyang Li.

The medium-sized student was named Su Zimo.

They originally planned to go demon hunting, and being able to go with Lin Feng made them very excited.

That afternoon, each of the five rode a war horse and left Jialan Academy.

…

In the Wilderness Jungle, a large group stopped not far from a lake.

That lake was where the “Winged Snake” resided.

It was there that Lin Feng killed the Sky Wolf Mercenary Group’s Junior Commander, Duanmu Feiyang.

The most attention-grabbing aspect of this large group was that it included a hundred cavalrymen.

These cavalry were not riding horses, but giant wolves.

These giant wolves were usually two meters long, about one and a half meters tall, with massive bodies, and were extremely ferocious.

They were all “Sky Wolves,” a type of Wilderness Demon Wolf.

And the middle-aged man leading them sat astride an even larger Demon Wolf, measuring five meters long and three meters tall, exuding overwhelming ferocity.

This was Duanmu Tianglang, the leader of the Sky Wolf Mercenary Group.

Duanmu Tianglang had subdued a small Demon Wolf tribe to form the Demon Wolf Guard.

The reputation of the Sky Wolf Mercenary Group had since soared.

“Did Feiyang really die here?” Duanmu Tianglang asked coldly.

“Reporting to you, sir, the Junior Commander indeed died at this place,” a mercenary replied.

“Have you found out who it was?” Duanmu Tianglang’s eyes flashed with murderous intent.

“Reporting to the commander, we have found some clues. Give us time, and we will definitely uncover the culprit,” the mercenary replied.

“Very well, find out quickly. No matter who it is, I will grind him to dust and avenge my son.” Duanmu Tianglang roared, swinging his blood-red long knife.

Swish.

The blade’s brilliance was dazzling, and a nearby three-thousand-meter peak was cleaved in half by Duanmu Tianglang’s blade.

With a thunderous crash.

The mountain collapsed with a loud rumble.

…

“Giddyup, giddyup!”

In the forest, Lin Feng and his group rode war horses, racing swiftly.

They were galloping at full speed toward the battlefield.

Passing a small town, they found it already turned into a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, demons rampaging unchecked, countless people slaughtered.

And several hundred mercenaries were locked in combat with the demons.

“That’s the Mad Dragon Mercenary Group. I heard their leader was once a general who nearly lost his head due to a grave error, but the emperor showed mercy because of his past merits, sparing his life and demoting him to a commoner. Eventually, he formed the Mad Dragon Mercenary Group. These mercenaries usually put profit above all else, yet now they’re risking their lives to hunt demons,” Su Zimo said in surprise.

Zhang Qichu said, “After all, their leader was a soldier, with a patriotic heart. Let’s help them hunt demons.”

Lin Feng nodded, saying, “Let’s go kill these demons.”

Seven riders charged into the town, engaging the demons in fierce battle, slaying large numbers of them.

“Haha, turned out to be the students of Jialan Academy. You all be careful; these demons are not easy to deal with.”

A mercenary captain shouted.

“Don’t worry, we will be extra cautious.”

Lin Feng and his group responded.

The seven of them, riding war horses, had immense impact.

Demons charging at them were cut down in succession.

“Roar.” A commanding roar echoed, and a Demon Commander fixed its cold gaze on Lin Feng and his group.

That Demon Commander swung its massive claws, and suddenly, dozens of Asura Demons covered in scales charged forward.

The Asura Demons brandished their sharp claws, directly attacking Lin Feng and his group.

“Kill.”

Lin Feng and the seven shouted as they battled the dozens of Asura Demons. However, they soon found themselves in a bitter struggle, as the Asura Demons’ defenses were astonishingly strong, making them extremely hard to kill.

Splat, splat, splat…

The sound of tearing flesh filled the air, and the horses Lin Feng and his group rode were pierced through by the Asura Demons’ sharp claws, dying tragically beneath them.

Dozens of Asura Demons surrounded Lin Feng and his group, and Su Zimo and others were scratched by the demons’ sharp claws.

Their faces turned pale, as they finally realized the formidable nature of these demons.

These demons did not understand martial arts, but their physical bodies were strong, their speed fast, and their numbers overwhelming. Once surrounded, they posed a dangerous threat to cultivators.

“Kill these humans and drain their blood.”

An Asura Demon roared repeatedly, the dozens of Asura Demons launching frenzied attacks.

Zhang Qichu, Su Zimo, Wang Xuanming, and the other six turned ashen.

“Such powerful Asura Demons, all of you fall back. I’ll handle them,” Lin Feng shouted.

The group was startled, quickly retreating a few meters.

“Sun Rising.”

Lin Feng bellowed, unleashing the Fiery Sun Sword Skill to its utmost limit. Instantly, a blazing sun rose slowly.

The Fiery Sun Sword Skill, though consuming, was immensely powerful.

The rising sun shot blinding rays.

“Ah, my eyes,” The Asura Demons screamed, the glaring light blinding them.

Splat. The sound of tearing filled the air.

As the light faded, the Asura Demons fell into pools of blood, all of them slain.

“Oh my, Junior Brother Lin is this powerful? He killed dozens of Asura Demons with a single sword strike,” Wang Xuanming, Su Zimo, Li Kun, and the others looked at Lin Feng with eyes full of awe.
