Lackey's Seducing Survival Odyssey

Chapter 1392: Rosavere... hiding something

After finishing the official engagement in the Naiadae Empire, Aether’s name started spreading even more than before, how he granted forgiveness and acceptance to the Naiadae people without any remorse or disappointment. The story carried warmth and reverence, reshaping how people whispered his name.

The words were spreading faster in other Empires, and how grand the official engagement was... other empires didn’t expect Naiadae would do something on the scale of almost like a marriage function.

”She really put everything into it, didn’t she?” Aria muttered with an amused expression, though a sliver of bitterness thinned her voice as she tilted her head, looking at her mother and Liora.

Both of them nodded with serious expressions as they stared at the glowing orb that flickered with images.

”That’s the reason she didn’t tell us the details... she wanted to be grand and surprise everyone,” Liora muttered with a slightly awed tone, even though they didn’t particularly go to see it, but Aqualina sent them a recorded video...

”Or... she wanted to indirectly say that she does better than others...” Aria muttered with a slightly annoyed expression. Her voice cracked for a moment, revealing the jealousy she tried to hide. ”She just wants the world to believe she loves him more than any of us ever could.”

Liora shook her head, ” More like she told us directly.” Her eyes turned calculating for the first time, but there was a softness beneath. ”And she didn’t care how it made the rest of us feel.”

Aria clenched her fist as she looked at her mother. ”We are doing much more, greater than this shit!” she said with a serious tone.

Maelona awkwardly smiled. ”Come on, dear, it’s not a competition—” Her voice faltered, knowing her daughter’s heart wasn’t listening.

”Mom, believe me, I am not losing to this bitch... no way!” Aria shook her head with a serious expression.

Aria even directly contacted Aqualina and said with a serious expression, /Listen bitch, I will do better than yours.../

/Hehe... please be my guest, Thieving Bitch~/ Aqualina’s sly voice echoed in her head.

Beneath the mockery, there was a quiet satisfaction, as if she enjoyed stirring that insecurity.

Veins popped on Aria’s forehead. ”See... I knew this bitch!” She stood up and said with glowing eyes, ”I will change the preparation...”

Maelona tried to stop her daughter. Things were already planned, and most of the things were already executed, and changing now... on the scale Aqualina did... this was surely going to be a pain in the ass for everyone.

”I will help you!” Liora nodded with a serious expression, ”I refuse to let someone younger, someone who barely understands him, make it seem like I care any less. He deserves to feel the depth of what I feel for him.”

Her tail stiffened and serious... emotions pulsing through her posture.

Maelona blinked as she looked at her daughter and Liora, who walked out of the room. She sighed with a tired expression before glancing at the video... of Aether smiling and laughing while receiving the gift.

Her expression softened as she stared at the image closely... longing flickering in her eyes.

Meanwhile, Aether, after doing double duty with Celestia, making sure she received more love, left the palace and immediately arrived at the important place he was supposed to visit a few days ago.

Inside the Rosavere’s Company, Lackey sat before Rosavere, who looked slightly annoyed as she looked at Lackey with a disappointed expression.

”I thought you didn’t want this anymore and left me without giving me a single response.”Her voice carried a thin crack, somewhere between frustration and fury.

Lackey didn’t say anything, just watched her silently... his expression hidden behind the rabbit mask, making it impossible to read what he was thinking right now.

But who cared about his thoughts... She trusted him, and he betrayed that trust... not even a single response for the past few days?

How could she trust a man like him then?

She could not afford to lose her business with her other clients.

Rosavere said with a blank expression, though a tremor of annoyance slipped through, ”Mr. Lackey, what we are doing is an important project. You cannot just come and go as you wish and ignore my calls... this is serious, you know? What if I made arrangements? Something important? Would I be waiting for a response until then? Do you think this is funny? If you’re not interested, just say—”

”Tell me... why did you spy on me?” Lackey interrupted her with a cold tone.

”Huh?”

Rosavere raised her eyebrows and frowned. ”What are you talking about?”

Lackey shook his head. ”Oh please... did you think I didn’t notice? Huh? Do you think I’m such an idiot?”

”Mr. Lackey, I don’t get it. What are you trying to say?”

She was completely confused by Lackey’s sudden, furious tone.

Lackey sighed. ”You asked why I didn’t respond, right? Now you know why. Because I fucking knew you didn’t trust me, putting a spy on me. So why would I trust you back?

Tsk, whatever... just give me my Origin Card and cancel the contract. I’m not interested in wasting my time on an untrustworthy person anymore.”

He said this while standing up.

Rosavere looked utterly flabbergasted as she hurriedly said, ”Please—calm down. I think there is some misunderstanding going on here...”

Lackey shook his head, ready to reject her, when Rosavere quickly added, ”Please... I need to understand the situation. I really don’t get what you mean. I spied on you?”

Lackey frowned under the mask. ”Really?”

”Yes, Mr. Lackey... I would never go behind someone’s back. I know more than anyone that once trust is broken, it’s hard to build it back. Please... explain what happened.”

She sounded genuinely shaken, even forgetting she was supposed to be angry moments ago.

Lackey then slowly sat back down and said, ”Last time, after our meeting, I was followed by someone who came from this building.”

Rosavere frowned. ”You mean... that receptionist?”

Lackey inwardly thought, ’Seems like the news of her receptionist meeting me really reached her...’ as he shrugged, not that he cared, as he said, ”No, not her... I’m asking about another person... a succubus.”

When she heard that word... her face morphed in realisation, as if she knew something, but she immediately masked it and said with a confused expression, ”Succubus? There is no way...”

”But she came from damn here... and I fucking knew it. Don’t act, Rosavere!!” Lackey shouted furiously.

Rosavere frowned. ”Mind your words... Lackey,” she said as her expression turned cold. ”I am telling you, there is no such thing that enters my place without permission—”

”That’s why I’m saying that you spied on me! That succubus tried to lure me, tried to dig into who I was... it didn’t seem like a coincidence!” Lackey slammed his fist on the table, voice shaking from a mixture of anger and betrayal.

Rosavere stared at Lackey before asking, ”Do you have proof?”

”Huh?”

”Proof. That succubus. I mean... she followed you, right?”

”Yeah, I fucking killed her...” Lackey said with a serious tone. For a second, he noticed Rosavere’s mild surprise before she turned indifferent again.

’This woman is really hiding something,’ Lackey thought inwardly with an amused expression.

Rosavere shrugged. ”If you killed her, then I don’t think I would be responsible...” She glanced at Lackey and added, ”Who knows, maybe you’re trying to lie to me...” A small smirk appeared on her lips.

Lackey smirked under the mask. ’Look at her trying to point it at me... sly bitch~’ he chuckled inwardly before saying with a stern expression, ”Oh? Yeah? And why do you think I would do that?”

Rosavere shrugged. ”For money? To trick me into giving you more compensation? Or... even trying to trick me into revealing who is behind the artifact I bought, since it didn’t work on my receptionist, right~” She smirked again at the end, voice edged with suspicion.

Lackey said calmly, ”Yes, I took her to lunch and asked questions... not for you, but for me. I need to be careful with whom I’m working.

And in fact, I took her because I noticed the succubus was fucking here.” He leaned forward as the table lightly shook. ”So I asked that woman to see if she knew you were involved in any kind of shady shit that might bite me through you... and sure enough, it did.” A small smirk curved his lips.

Now, he made it clear that he didn’t do it on purpose—he was simply forced because of her spy.

Rosavere’s expression turned blank... as she stared at his mask. ”I still do not believe your story—”

Lackey nodded. ”So be it... I will be leaving. Give my card back and cancel the contract, and I will give your freaking artifact. Let’s forget whatever happened between us.” He stood up once again, finality in his tone.

Rosavere didn’t move.... just stared at him. She knew exactly what was going on here... the reason she was initially angry was because she wanted to pull compensation from him. But she didn’t expect that a succubus had spied on him.

She couldn’t afford to lose him... he was the only man who managed to crack the artifact and find a solution. She needed him. So—

”Come with me,” she said with a defeated tone.

Lackey smirked behind the mask... now that’s what he was waiting for.
