The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 683: Chapter 682: Keep Him Here

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

What did he just hear? Huangfu Yuxuan also put in a lot of effort in the meantime?

It’s not wrong to say so. After all, this was all his design, wasn’t it indeed a lot of effort?

But when it comes to saving people, what did Huangfu Yuxuan do? He did nothing, not as much as I did. I went to plead with Grandfather. Although it was merely a cherry on top in the end, if the retrial didn’t succeed, it would have been the backup plan!

The person who truly did something, he doesn’t appreciate, yet he is grateful to the one who set him up. It is indeed like being sold out and still counting money for the person who sold him.

But just because Huangfu Yuxuan won people’s hearts, he visited them in prison a few more times, and pretended to have the prison guards take care of them, he remembered him.

I have made things this clear, yet he still targets me?

Actually, Gu Hongxin by now already believes that the major contributor to getting from execution to merely staying in prison for a while and then being released was mostly Wenjin and Sichen, but he couldn’t believe it.

If he believed it, then the person he should be most grateful to in his heart would be Wenjin and Sichen.

Then what about his closeness to Young Master Xuan in his heart?

In the past, he was certainly willing to be more grateful to Xia Wenjin, but now it’s different. Now his future and Young Master Xuan’s are linked together. If Young Master Xuan has a better future, so will he.

From the moment he arrived in Capital City, there were choices and trade-offs. Since he had already decided in his heart, he could only put Huangfu Yuxuan’s interests first.

Moreover, even if that prison disaster was indeed due in large part to Wenjin and Sichen’s efforts, allowing them to escape death, get a position in the Capital Guard, start as low-ranking Military Officers, and even get promoted quickly, that was indeed thanks to Young Master Xuan’s support and connections.

The boy in front of him, speaking disrespectfully about Young Master Xuan, must be thoroughly taught a lesson for Young Master Xuan.

Although this boy has good Qinggong skills, how could someone so young be a match for his decades of diligent Martial Arts training?

Seeing the malice in Gu Hongxin’s eyes, Huangfu Jingchen grew a bit impatient. This man stubbornly determined on Huangfu Yuxuan and must see him as a benefactor, but it had nothing to do with him. However, since this man was wholly biased toward Huangfu Yuxuan, and was also the sworn brother of Wenjin’s father, what if he said something to Xia Wanqing regarding Wenjin’s marriage, stubbornly holding onto some ”promise made, not easily broken”? Wouldn’t that just add trouble for Wenjin?

He calmly said: ”Just because I spoke the truth, is the Third Village Chief this ashamed and angry? Then if Third Village Chief knew that Wenjin and Huangfu Yuxuan no longer have a marriage agreement, wouldn’t he be even less able to accept it?”

”What did you say?”

Huangfu Jingchen said: ”Brother Sichen told me that the Xia family’s younger sister did not agree to this marriage, and Chief Xia has already withdrawn the engagement.”

”There is no withdrawal of engagement, no such thing!” Gu Hongxin hurriedly said.

He knew Xia Wenjin did not agree, but wasn’t the elder brother always holding onto it? If the engagement is broken, without this marital connection, will Young Master Xuan still support him and his second brother in the future?

Huangfu Jingchen glanced at Gu Hongxin and said: ”Third Village Chief, Brother Sichen said before, this engagement was originally just a verbal agreement, so the withdrawal should naturally be clarified face to face. You must have been busy with official duties and not present at the time!”

Gu Hongxin shouted: ”I see, you brat really came here to stir up trouble, right? What does Wenjin’s marriage have to do with you? Breaking into the Xia Mansion at night, clearly harboring ill intentions! Old Four, Old Li, Old Hu, take him down and wait for Big Brother to come back to make a decision.”

As he spoke, he had already drawn the knife from his waist.

Huangfu Jingchen shook his head and said: ”Since the Third Village Chief became a Capital City’s Military Officer, it seems he has become more authoritative. This is the Xia Mansion, I am a friend of Sichen’s. Are you going to detain me just because I didn’t say what you wanted?”

Gu Hongxin ignored Huangfu Jingchen, turning to Zhuo Pengju and the others, saying: ”He claims to be a friend of Sichen’s. Who knows if it’s true? He came here late at night, without entering through the main gate, clearly up to no good, regardless of whether it’s true or not, let’s capture him first!”

Zhuo Pengju hesitated, saying: ”Isn’t that inappropriate?”

”There’s nothing inappropriate; what if he’s a thief?” Gu Hongxin said fiercely: ”If we captured the wrong person, I’ll apologize to Big Brother.”

Huangfu Jingchen almost laughed; it seemed this Third Village Chief was desperate to hold him, ready to lie if necessary. It looked like he wanted to take more than just him; perhaps he wanted to hand him over to Huangfu Yuxuan?

But he really couldn’t let the Third Village Chief catch him. He came to see Wenjin. Xia Wanqing didn’t like him, and if he knew he came sneaking into the Xia Mansion at night, he would like him even less.

Moreover, with all the noise here, Xia Wenjin hadn’t come out, likely she’s not home.

Huangfu Jingchen said: ”Since Brother Sichen is not here, I’ll come again another day!”

”Want to leave? It’s not that easy!” Gu Hongxin swung his knife at Huangfu Jingchen.

The two exchanged a few quick moves, and Gu Hongxin saw that with agile movement technique and clearly not weak skills, he feared he couldn’t hold him alone. He quickly told Zhuo Pengju and the other three: ”Seeing that I exposed him, he wants to leave immediately, clearly guilty. What are you waiting for? Move now!”

The rule of the Jianghu was originally one-on-one, fair and square, let alone they didn’t know if Huangfu Jingchen was friend or foe. Zhuo Pengju hadn’t moved initially but, being urged, drew his knife and joined the fray.

Li Linghu and Zeqi joined as well.

Huangfu Jingchen fought against four, seeing the scene instantly chaotic, felt helpless. He really just wanted to see Wenjin, not to fight with others.

Moreover, these people were after all Wenjin’s uncles; hurting them would be bad, and getting hurt by them would be even more unjust.

Huangfu Jingchen was reluctant to get entangled, fighting while saying: ”I did not come here to cause trouble, and have no other intentions. I just wanted to find... Brother Sichen, please do not misunderstand!”

Gu Hongxin sneered: ”If you were truly a friend of Sichen’s, why wouldn’t he tell you about accompanying his father back to his hometown to pay respects to ancestors? He’s been away from Capital City for several days, yet you knew nothing, and you think we’ll believe you just because you say this?”

Huangfu Jingchen felt helpless, facing four people unarmed, he dared not be careless, withdrew the Soft Sword from his waist, cupped his fist, and said: ”Then I must offend you.”

With the sword in hand, Huangfu Jingchen’s aura became more formidable and stable. With a twist of his arm, the sword flashed, blocking the four of them, with a tap of his foot, he leapt onto the courtyard wall, looked back at the courtyard, and said: ”I understand the Third Village Chief’s intentions, but as Sichen’s friend. I must advise you, don’t lose the righteousness in your heart for your own future! Wenjin treated you as family. You shouldn’t use her marriage for your own selfish desires!”
