Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 898: Chapter 898: New Year’s Visits in the Second Year of Middle School

The eldest of the Yang Family didn’t know that just because of this, the job they wanted to ask for him was gone.

”Alright, your sister should be back in a while. Don’t tell her, save her from worrying.”

Yang Chunsheng nodded, ”Mom, I won’t say, but my sister isn’t a fool.”

Hu Chunhua sighed, ”You guys don’t say, I’ll talk to her myself.”

Cai Jianya didn’t come over; she was just across the door with the kids. She didn’t hear them talking, but she did see what had just happened. She knew it wasn’t a good thing, and was speechless at how the eldest brother was.

Now she’s thinking about having more children and teaching them well, unlike the eldest brother.

Yang Xue and her husband came over with three children. She had two boys, and the second was a young woman.

Cai Jianya adored the eldest sister-in-law’s young woman; she was truly endearing. She took out hair accessories bought in the Capital and put them on the girl.

”Thank you, Second Aunt,” Yang Xue taught her daughter to say.

The little girl shyly smiled, ”Thank you, Second Aunt.”

”No need to thank, my Xiao Feng is so beautiful. She is sure to be a lovely young woman in the future.”

”Hmm, thank you, Second Aunt.” The five-year-old girl could say thank you and liked the red hair-clip very much.

Cai Jianya felt heartfelt admiration; the eldest sister really taught the children well. They seemed quite sensible.

She prepared red envelopes with two yuan each for the three kids in advance.

The two boys smiled and thanked Second Aunt too.

”Mom, what’s wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell? Should we go see?”

”What’s there to see on New Year’s? I’m fine. Just upset with your big brother.”

Yang Xue immediately understood the situation. She didn’t know how to talk about it; she could understand the big brother’s thinking, but after so many years, what’s the point of dwelling on it?

Isn’t this just a matter of opportunities? If the big brother had followed along back then, wouldn’t he have had a job too? But he missed the chance; a missed opportunity is a missed opportunity.

”Mom, don’t get worked up; let it be. It’s his thinking; you can’t change it.”

”Xue’er, you don’t know. I told Chunsheng a few days ago to talk to Yuanyuan when he comes across her and see if she could help find your big brother a job here, but after he got angry and left on the twenty-seventh, he didn’t come for New Year’s and went to visit his mother-in-law with your nephew today.

I already felt embarrassed to ask Yuanyuan. Now, it’s better not to bother her.”

Yang Xue sighed; big brother was foolish. If Yuanyuan knew he was angry with Mom over work, she probably wouldn’t care even if she could help.

She didn’t know what to say; asking Yuanyuan indeed was possible, but the favor they’ve had might fade.

Cai Jianya was listening silently on the side; this was not something for her to comment on. Even if her mother-in-law was angry with the eldest brother, they were still mother and son; it wasn’t her place as a daughter-in-law to speak.

The kids were playing on the bed, with the older ones letting the younger ones win.

Zhang Chunsheng and brother-in-law were chatting, talking about growing medicinal herbs.

”I’m not particularly sure; Yuanyuan’s friend came to me. I think Yuanyuan arranged this, so with the government’s approval, we could earn more money.”

”Indeed. Our village is trying to persuade your village chief since not everyone can speak to authorities.”

”I really don’t know. I’m not familiar with Yuanyuan’s friend either and don’t know how to approach them.

But I think since the village chief is involved, there shouldn’t be any problem.”

”Let’s hope so. Working so hard for a year without earning much; growing herbs is better as it assures a payout.

How about you two? Is the work tough?”

”It’s tiring; I don’t want to do anything after coming back home. Honestly, compared to farming, it’s cleaner with less sun exposure. Moreover, Yuanyuan mentioned that exposure to aluminum isn’t good, but I haven’t felt anything.”

”You’re doing great already; our ten villages envy you. You even went to the Capital.

Chunsheng, are there more vacancies? If there’s a chance, find me a job too, even if it’s temporary.”

”Brother-in-law, there really aren’t any jobs now. In the Capital, many young people have moved to rural areas. It’s hard for sons to take over their fathers’ jobs.”

”Yes, I’ve heard about it too. It’s quite challenging.”

Yang Chunsheng didn’t know how to respond. Truly, he would feel envious too. He wants to go to the Capital and have a full-time job, not just temporary work.

The lunch was very good, all delicious, including sea fish, and the smell was appetizing.

The whole family ate happily; there were children at the table, so even though Hu Chunhua wasn’t in a great mood, she felt better.

The three elders drank wine today. The children ate their fill; Hu Chunhua kept serving them meat. Her daughter hadn’t split off yet; although her mother-in-law wasn’t well, with so many kids, what could they eat?

Watching the kids scarf down chunks of fatty meat, she knew they were enjoying the taste. Hu Chunhua felt even more distressed.

”Mom, you eat too. Don’t worry about them. They can eat by themselves.”

”These are my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren; all eat, all eat. If it’s not enough, Grandma will heat more for you later.”

After lunch, everything was cleaned up, and the mother-daughter duo went inside to chat.

”Xue, I really feel ashamed to ask Yuanyuan now. With your big brother like this, I wouldn’t want to put Yuanyuan in a difficult spot; our family has benefited much from Yuanyuan.”

”Mom, don’t talk in anger. Big brother just hasn’t thought it through; don’t you know his character?”

Hu Chunhua sighed, ”But it doesn’t withstand your sister-in-law whispering doubts.

Actually, your sister-in-law is foolish. If your big brother really leaves and doesn’t come back for a long time, how will she manage?”

”Mom, don’t speak out of anger. If feasible, let’s find a job for big brother.”

Hu Chunhua sighed again; she’s been sighing all year’s worth.

”Yuanyuan only arranged work for Chunsheng. Nothing for your uncle’s family, can they be happy?

If a job is arranged for your brother, wouldn’t your uncle’s family be even less satisfied?”

”Mom, you’re overthinking it. Doesn’t Yuanyuan realize?”

Hu Chunhua fell silent. She didn’t know what to say; she wishes she could meet Yuanyuan, hasn’t seen her in years. Speaking in anger, could she really ignore her son? That’s impossible; he’s part of her.

Yang Xue noticed Mom was quiet now, finally relieved. Mom was just struggling to figure this out now; how could she possibly neglect big brother?
