Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 888: Chapter 888: All Set

The two sisters also brought over some of the cleaned-up corn stalks and cotton stems from before.

Zhao Tian had them take back a hundred jin of cotton, but the cloth would be provided by the two aunts. It’s for making quilts for the children. Although the family grows cotton, they were still reluctant to use it, so the grandparents provided it.

An Lixia brought each of her daughters’ families a bag of dried sweet potatoes.

The children of both families love eating them. Every year, she would bring some for them. It’s one of the things a grandma can do.

They packed more than thirty winter melons since both families like to eat them, and the children will need them when they come in the future, too.

Actually, that’s how the elderly are. They never know what to bring for the children and always feel like they’ve brought too little.

The four pigs from both families were also loaded onto the vehicle. Zhang Fusheng and Zhou Yongbing wanted to pay for them, but their offer was refused. They were still planning to send the children over.

After sending off the two brothers-in-law, the three families went back home. The Zhao sisters kept shelling corn, thinking that by the end of the month, they could have all the corn shelled, so their parents wouldn’t have to work so hard after they left.

The four of them were really quick; ten days later, all the corn at home was shelled.

On the thirteenth of the lunar month, Feng Baoshan came over.

”Qingxiang, Qingxiang.”

”Director Feng, please come in.” Zhao Qingxiang quickly invited him inside.

”Qingxiang, I’m not coming in, I’ve been out for days, I just came by to tell you that Li Hongxiang called. He said the three of them have settled in the Capital and with Xiao Su taking care of things, they won’t be returning.

Are you moving into Xiao Su’s old place?”

”Of course, thank you, Director Feng, thank you so much.”

”No need for courtesy, I just have some authority.

If you want to move, do it quickly, I’ll arrange a family to come over to your place. Don’t worry, this family is trustworthy; I’ve checked them out.”

”Thanks, Director Feng, we’ll move tomorrow.”

”Alright, you can move into Xiao Su’s house, if it were anyone else, I wouldn’t want to part with it.

Okay, I’m heading back, come find me at the factory office after you’re done moving, I need to document it.”

Feng Baoshan left in his vehicle. Zhao Qingxiang entered the house smiling.

”Xiao Yun, pack our things, we’re moving tomorrow. Fortunately, all the corn has been shelled.”

”Mr. Li isn’t returning?”

”Yes, Director Feng said just now that Mr. Li and his family have already reached the Capital and found Yuanyuan. That’s great, Mr. Li isn’t a person cut out for farming.”

”Qingxiang, do you think we can visit Yuanyuan in the future?”

Zhao Qingxiang paused in surprise, ”I think it’s possible, but what would we do there? We can’t read and write well, what could we do visiting Yuanyuan? If the kids grow up and become successful, I’d certainly go ask Yuanyuan for help.”

This gave Sun Yun a warm feeling inside, thinking of how Su Yuanyuan had two sons in that house. If she went, she might have sons too.

Thinking of this made her very happy, ”Xiao Ling, Xiao Le, come over quickly and help, Qingxiang, let’s move the firewood first. There’s plenty of corn stalks at Mr. Li’s place but no corn cobs.”

The father and two daughters cheerfully listened to the plan and started loading the vehicle. Zhao Xiaoling also brought over the donkey cart from her grandparent’s place. Zhao Tian came along too.

The entire afternoon, they transported all the corn cobs and placed them in the shed outside.

That night, the family started loading up the grain; there was still quite a bit of corn at home. They planned to take two loads to the factory tomorrow to exchange for money, keeping the rest for themselves.

Having endured hunger before, they made sure to keep enough grain at home, certainly enough for the family to eat for the next year. Being afraid of hunger was genuinely traumatic.

”Qingxiang, tomorrow let’s transport some of the vegetables from the cellar to the factory as well. There are still quite a few left at Mr. Li’s place. We can’t eat that much.”

Zhao Qingxiang understood and didn’t refuse. ”Alright, when we see Mr. Li in the future, we’ll pay for this batch of vegetables we bought.”

Sun Yun had no objections; she was actually biased towards sons, but otherwise, she had no complaints.

Early the next morning, Zhao Tian came driving the cart, and when he heard they were delivering grain to the factory first, he agreed it was sensible, to avoid going back and forth.

With the cart full of corn, the father and son drove to the factory.

The factory took care of the Zhao Family; after all, every year, it’s the Zhao daughters who help with the fertilizer. There’s no need for noticeable preferential treatment; a bit of leniency in less conspicuous areas is acceptable.

With two carts full of corn, the factory staff helped weigh it and move it into storage. Nowadays, people are honest, and there’s no worry about the corn’s quality.

The father and son hurried back. Meanwhile, the mother and two daughters had already brought up the potatoes and winter melons from the cellar, which were also to be taken to the factory.

Because it’s already very cold outside, several layers of grass mats are laid on top for insulation.

At the factory, there were no difficulties; everything was weighed and stored. It was already noon, so they went home for lunch, planning to continue transporting the grain in the afternoon.

The two vehicles ran pretty fast. Three trips were enough to transport all the grain over. The rest consisted of the household items, which the father and son moved in one trip too.

Tonight, they certainly couldn’t stay over there, but by the next day, they hoped to be moved in completely.

Although life at home seemed tough, when it came time to move, they realized the household had accumulated a lot of things over the years, many small odds and ends.

Sun Yun was in good spirits, and despite the tiring day, she had a smile on her face all day.

”Qingxiang, we now have a nice house to live in.”

”Yes, Yuanyuan wouldn’t settle for less; even the cellar is deeper than ours.

Next year, we’ll expand the space on the side too, and within two years, we can cultivate the land well.”

Sun Yun said nothing; her only thought was wanting to have a son. Once the three girls left, even if they were expecting a child, they could still manage to farm over a hundred acres with no problem.

Sun Yun calculated the days, thinking if she went right after getting pregnant, it wouldn’t delay next year’s spring sowing. The more she thought about it, the more this seemed like the best plan.

The next day, the family got up early again, with the three daughters already accompanying them. After all, there was a need to start a fire and clean the house.

Zhao Tian still had to come over. The family worked hard until about three in the afternoon, finally tidying everything up.

”Mr. Li instructed that this pile should be sent to them. The rest is for us. Xiao Yun, see what they’ve left us?”

Sun Yun was all smiles, never minding using what others left behind. The first package she opened was Li Hongxiang’s, containing a few sets of clothes and a set of bedding.
