Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 2 - 2 canʼt go back

Su Yuanyuan recalled the memories of the little girl and knew there was a newly built reservoir here. Anyway, she didnʼt want to die a gruesome death. Her last life was probably too horrible to bear, right? So this time she decided to jump into the river. Yes, jump into the river, that way her death wouldnʼt be too ugly.

She was already full, and had the strength now. She really didnʼt want to stay here any longer.

Su Yuanyuan turned around carefreely and left this rundown home. Guided by her memories, she went straight to the riverbank, without stopping, and jumped directly into the river.

Her first thought was how darn cold it was, shouldnʼt this freeze over by morning and evening?

Su Yuanyuan waited to be submerged, but why couldnʼt she sink? Now she was really angry, pointing at the sky and cursing, ”Damn it, are you toying with me? Canʼt I even die if I donʼt want to live?”

But still she couldnʼt sink. Su Yuanyuan was just too cold. She already looked sickly, although drinking Spiritual Spring Water cured her cold. But in this freezing water, she still felt she couldnʼt bear it.

She floated on the water for a couple of minutes. Before she could start cursing again, suddenly she heard footsteps approaching.

Su Yuanyuan awkwardly turned around to see a group of people running toward her. From her memories, she knew it was the womenʼs director bringing five or six women.

”Yuanyuan, what are you doing? Luckily we were not far from here.”

”Yuanyuan, get up quickly. Itʼs so cold.”

”Yes, come up quickly. If you catch a cold, where will you get the money for medicine?”

Several people kept urging Su Yuanyuan from the riverside. They were quite anxious, as the Su Family only had this one little girl left. Normally she appeared meek and compliant, just knowing how to work hard. What made her suddenly be so troubled today?

Who knew what she was thinking, only jumping into the river after the Su Family left a while later?

Soaking in the water, Su Yuanyuan felt unbelievably cold. Seeing several anxious people on the shore, before she could climb up herself, a few more people came running.

Village chief Yang Hongwen jumped down, grabbed her like he was picking up a chick, and hauled her onto the shore.

Several women caught Su Yuanyuan, while the womenʼs director held her and ran towards that broken house.

Su Yuanyuan jolted in the embrace of the others, looking at their tense faces, she suddenly felt that having someone care was actually quite comforting.

The villagers here were just like the ones in her previous home village. Everyone had their thoughts, but they werenʼt bad people.

Back home, she was directly stripped of her clothes aggressively and stuffed into the bed.

”Yuanyuan, wait for me to start a fire, itʼll be warm in a while.”

Outside, chaotic footsteps passed by under the directions of the womenʼs director, Hu Chunhua, going home to fetch ginger. After soaking in cold water for so long, if she didnʼt drink some ginger sugar water and got sick, what could be done?

Su Yuanyuan just kept staring at the ceiling. Her heart was madly complaining. Was it even a luxury for her to die?

Thinking about dying now just gave her a headache. Was her mood not allowing her to die? But she really didnʼt want to live these days.

Isnʼt there such a thing as this? Didnʼt want to live in this environment. Couldnʼt she find relief? Why should her life be arranged by her ”real dad”? Couldnʼt she follow her own will?

Su Yuanyuan thought, since she couldnʼt die, fine, letʼs go with the flow. At least she wouldnʼt starve or go thirsty

What about famine? Find ways for everyone to store more food, wouldnʼt that do? When the time comes, if she eats better, no one will be watching over her, right?

Su Yuanyuan felt she figured it out. Suddenly, a cup of water appeared in her hand; she drank it in one go, finally closing her eyes thinking about how to live from now on.

If she couldnʼt even die, then just live. Her ”real dad” sent her here, she shouldnʼt ”fail” his kindness, right?

Although she feared this era, since she had guarantees, if she couldnʼt live, then she was truly an idiot.

Besides, this wasnʼt the world she lived in, whatʼs there to panic about?

Not worrying about food or clothes, what else to be concerned about? She didnʼt have a strong heart in her past life, and wouldnʼt suddenly reform and become a model young person. So just going with the flow and following nature was good too.

Su Yuanyuan figured it out. She had no worries or attachments in her past life, everything had been arranged after her death. Coming here for an experience wasnʼt bad either.

The womenʼs director Hu Chunhua came in, sat on the bed head, beside Su Yuanyuanʼs pillow. ”Girl, itʼs better to live poorly than die. People can overcome anything. Although those heartless sold the house, the land still belongs to you.

As long as thereʼs land, you can live. Youʼre young, but you can do any work. You can live.

Donʼt be troubled, itʼs fine. Without them, youʼll live better.” The womenʼs director was giving the little girl a pep talk, afraid to see this living little girl gone like this, she felt uneasy.

Su Yuanyuan cleared her throat, ”Aunt, would you believe if I said I didnʼt want to die?”

Hu Chunhua didnʼt expect this little girl to talk to her. She was stunned for a moment.

”Aunt, I just wanted to take a bath,” Su Yuanyuan said, lying through her teeth. She really didnʼt want others to say she wanted to die, that would be too humiliating.

”Why are you taking a bath in the middle of winter?” Hu Chunhua couldnʼt decide if the girl was lying or not. As an elder of the village, she had done what she ought to do. But in the future, she should take more care of this little girl.

”Aunt, donʼt worry. I wonʼt do it again. I got it wrong. I thought since the weather was cold, the water wouldnʼt be that cold. But only when I got in did I realize, it was really cold.

Aunt, thank you and the other aunts, and the village chief. I wonʼt act foolish again.”

”Fine, as long as you understand. But why do I feel youʼre not the same as before?”

Su Yuanyuan was taken aback, ”Aunt, thatʼs because I think youʼre a good person. What I said before, they didnʼt like listening, so I didnʼt talk. Now theyʼre all gone, no oneʼs bothering me anymore. Of course, I want to talk.”

Hu Chunhua looked at the girl with sympathy. Although people said girls had a tough fate, she was still their child. How could they be so heartless as to leave her? Just for that, Su Daqiang wouldnʼt have it good outside.

At this moment, those who went to get ginger and brown sugar came over. Since Su Yuanyuan was stripped and stuffed into the quilt, she didnʼt get up.

”Thanks to the two aunts.”

”What are you thanking for? As long as you donʼt act foolish, just live well. Living isnʼt easy. How can you easily go and die?”

”Aunt, I didnʼt want to die, just wanted to bathe. Now no one beats or scolds me, no one wonʼt give me food. As long as I work well, I can eat enough. Why would I be troubled and seek death?” Su Yuanyuan tried to show a very sincere expression while saying these lies to the three women.
