Strongest Hammer God

Chapter 1103: Bad Mood

The Overseer waited. The deadline had been set, and now, she just had to wait. One way or another, she would get out.

Yet, even though she had been the Overseer for over a billion years, waiting had never been this difficult. In the past, she had things she could focus on. She had been creating more Elemental Demons to attack the World Wall. She had been coming up with new plans.

Now, there was nothing for her to do, and the waiting drove her crazy. She wanted to get out! Freedom was so close, but she still had to wait!

Most of the time, she just aimlessly watched the world, but she also looked at Kyle regularly.

When she saw Kyle focusing on the Law of Immortal Earth, she grew annoyed.

ʼWhy is he looking at Immortal Earth?! Heʼs supposed to be focusing on his Imposing Law!ʼ

However, she could also see that Kyleʼs other Avatar was constantly swinging his hammer near the World Floor.

ʼIs he splitting his focus? Thatʼs not what we agreed on! Heʼs supposed to focus on his Imposing Law!ʼ

Yet, she still kept herself in check. They had made an agreement, and she would keep to it, as long as nothing crazy happened.

When Kyle swapped his Avatars and went to the Law Well for Immortal Darkness, she grew annoyed again.
ʼObviously, focusing on the Immortal Elements doesnʼt work. Canʼt you see that?! Why are you looking at a different Immortal Element? What makes this Element different from the other one?!ʼ

Her frustrations welled up and weakened again.

ʼWe have an agreement. He also wants to comprehend his Imposing Law. He only spent about 50,000 years in the Law Well for Immortal Earth. Someone like him canʼt comprehend a Level Seven Law in such a short amount of time. It took me almost 200,000 years to comprehend my first Level Seven Law, and I only managed to learn it during a battle.ʼ

These thoughts calmed down her frustrations. ʼThat means heʼs not focusing on comprehending the Level Seven Laws. If he did, he would stay there longer. He has even switched the way he swings his hammer. Instead of meditating in the Law Well, one of his Avatars is now meditating near the World Floor. It looks like heʼs trying to comprehend his Imposing Law.ʼ

The Overseerʼs eyes narrowed. ʼBut I still donʼt like it.ʼ

She remembered Swamp Dragonʼs words.

ʼHe said that he isnʼt telling me everything, which means there are things that I havenʼt noticed. But what am I supposed to do?! If I kill them, I will ruin my best shot at getting out of here!ʼ

The Overseer gritted her teeth and clenched her fists in a mix of frustration and rage. ʼHow come I canʼt control a bunch of mere Ascendants?! Iʼm the Overseer! Iʼm supposed to be the one in control!ʼ

At that moment, she remembered her conversation with the Will of Death.

ʼFreedom and control. The shadowʼs words are absurd, but the things that have happened seem to confirm its words.ʼ

ʼAssuming the shadow is right, there can be freedom without control and control without freedom.ʼ

ʼShould I let go? Should I just let them do whatever they want?ʼ

As the Overseer deliberated that thought, everything inside of her seemed to resist it. This entire concept of freedom and control simply rubbed her the wrong way.

ʼIdiocy disguised as profound wisdom! How can you possibly have freedom without control?! If my life is in the hands of other beings, how can I possibly experience freedom?! It makes no logical sense! I would be forced to do whatever these other beings say! How is that freedom?!ʼ

While thinking about the shadowʼs words, she also watched Kyleʼs Avatars.

When she saw the casual and carefree smile on his face, her rage overwhelmed her.

She absolutely hated his expression and demeanor! He was acting like there were no issues!

Didnʼt he know that his life was in her hands?!

Didnʼt he know that she could simply kill him on a whim?!

Didnʼt he know that he had to perfect his Imposing Law?! If he failed, he would die!

What if she decided to go back on her word? Wasnʼt he afraid that she would betray him after he gave her what she wanted?!

How could he possibly have such a carefree smile on his face while the entire world put immense pressure on him?!

He was forced to do her bidding, and he didnʼt even seem to mind. It was like he didnʼt even care!

”Why are you looking at Immortal Darkness?” she asked Kyle via voice transmission, her tone strict. ”Youʼre supposed to focus on perfecting your Imposing Law! Havenʼt you realized that looking at the Immortal Elements wonʼt help you?”

Red didnʼt stop swinging his hammer.

”I am focusing on my Imposing Law,” Kyle answered. ”As Iʼve said before, I need to gain insights and inspiration. I tried to swing around near the World Floor. I think I gained some insights, but itʼs not enough. You know the Immortal Element Laws, right? Theyʼre related to perception, and understanding more about perception might help me.”

”An Imposing Law is a representation of myself. If I learn more about perception, I can learn more about my own perception. I can learn more about my own existence by looking at myself through the experiences of other forces. The Immortal Elements live through me, and I can look at myself from a different angle by watching them.”

The Overseer tried her best to sense any falsehoods in Kyleʼs words. She knew a lot about the Laws of Karma, but since she was a beast, she couldnʼt truly see Karmic Lines. She could only analyze Karmic Lines based on the effects they had on the world. It was a bit like trying to find out how past civilizations had lived by looking at traces they had left behind. It was impossible to see how these civilizations had lived, but by looking at artifacts and old bodies, one could create an image of the civilization.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, she couldnʼt sense any falsehood from Kyleʼs words. At least not in terms of Karma.

Yet, while Karma didnʼt seem to say that he was lying, the Overseer still felt like he wasnʼt being truthful.

She wanted to argue against his statements. She wanted to say that he was just trying to delay his death as much as possible.

Sadly, she didnʼt know how Imposing Laws truly worked. She had learned a lot about them, but she had never truly had one herself. How was she supposed to find a logical counter to something she knew nothing about?

While her beast-self still wanted to argue, her human-self realized that she couldnʼt win an argument.

”Fine! You know whatʼs at stake! There are 700,000 years left! Donʼt disappoint me, or you, and everyone you hold dear, will die!” she transmitted aggressively.

”I know, I know,” Kyle answered as he swung his hammer.

The Overseer snorted and looked away again. Watching Kyle drove her crazy.

ʼWhy is she always in such a bad mood?ʼ Kyle thought.

The authorʼs patreon. If he gets more than 1000 per month, he will increase the number of words in the chapter.
