Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1567: Light in the Eyes

Vaarh’s irritation with Adam’s actions was understandable. He knew that for the Phantoms, monster energy was a destructive thing.

Sure, even ordinary humans could eat monster meat, not to mention the Phantoms, but these two situations were different.

When an ordinary human or a Phantom ate monster meat, it was at least several hours after the monster had died, or even several days. Thus, there was no active energy left in the monster meat.

Moreover, at that moment, a Phantom was usually at the peak of his powers, so a small amount of foreign energy could not harm him, but it could not make him stronger either, as happened with Vaarh.

In Adam’s situation, it was like drinking deadly poison.

He was exhausted and almost on the verge of death. The black wolf’s heart was still beating in his hand, it was as fresh and full of energy as possible.

Thus, as soon as he ate the monster’s heart, all its energy went into his inner space, moving towards his Evolution Tree.

It was poison not only for his body but also for the source of his energy.

In less than a minute, the monster’s energy would begin to corrupt its Evolution Tree, as a toxin ate away at its bark and destroyed the energy flows.

But... Vaarh hadn’t taken something into account.

If Adam hadn’t done this, he would have been dead anyway.

Now, he had a chance to change something.

Why?

It was Vaarh’s own fault, although he didn’t realize it yet.

”Hey... Vaarh, what do you say about this mistake?”

Adam’s hoarse voice rang out as he didn’t look up at Vaarh, continuing to stare at the ground.

Confusion covered Vaarh’s face.

”The barrier you put up in front of the entrance... Huh, it taught me a trick.”

Soon, Vaarh understood what Adam was talking about.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

The black-and-white energy flows burst out of Adam with such force, as if fuel were burning in a hellish fire.

Vaarh’s face paled when he finally realized what Adam’s plan was.

”You... You’re releasing energy from your Evolution Tree to make room for monster energy?”

In this way, Adam gained the power he so desperately needed, basically burning himself up to gain power from his reserves. At the same time, the monster energy was directed into the vacated space in such a way that it did not destroy his Evolution Tree right away.

’But what’s the point?’ Vaarh thought. ’He’s turned himself into a ticking bomb. Even if he now has the strength to fight, in the end, his Evolution Tree will be emptied, and the monster energy will be so much that it will destroy him from within!’

”Hah, you think why I did that?”

Adam raised his head for a split second, his eyes shining with an unusual golden light.

”Because that time will be enough to kill one arrogant dragon in front of me.”

A wave of fear ran through Vaarh as his fist slammed into Adam.

Whoooooosh.

Adam vanished, reappearing in flight to Vaarh’s right.

His eyes were full of excitement and pure enjoyment of the battle, while energy waves continued to emanate from his body.

He had about a minute before his Evolution Tree would be depleted to zero.

”Hey, I’m here.”

Vaarh spun around sharply at the sound, only to see Adam’s foot hurtling toward his face. The purple energy followed his foot, indicating the ancient energy invested in this strike.

The azure eye saw everything, but Vaarh did not have time to react. He made a mistake and allowed his thoughts to distract him.

BAM!

Adam’s foot slammed into Vaarh’s forearm, throwing him back.

But, before Vaarh could remove his block, the azure eye flinched at the sight of Adam’s fist filled with ancient energy.

”GHA!” Vaarh gasped in pain as Adam’s fist slammed into his steel press.

A few drops of blood fell on Adam’s face, but the bliss in his eyes only grew stronger.

Without hesitation, the next fist headed for Vaarh as he jerked sharply to the side.

’I didn’t think it would come to this, but I have no other choice!’ Vaarh exclaimed inwardly as another monster became his target.

Before Adam could reach him, Vaarh tore the snow bull apart with his powerful grip and drained its heart, gaining a new wave of strength that he so desperately needed.

”What are you going to do now?!” Vaarh roared, unleashing a barrage of blows on Adam.

Each fist landed precisely on target, leaving bleeding bruises on Adam’s chest and shoulders.

He didn’t need to say anything.

He showed his answer in his actions.

Crack.

The next monster became Adam’s bloody victim. Another heart was devoured, and a new wave of monster energy flowed into him.

As long as the poison didn’t kill him, he could use it for himself.

Vaarh’s eyes widened. He understood what the rules were now.

Now, only the two of them were hunters, while all the monsters around them were just a means for them to achieve victory.

Most shocked of all was Alexia, who lay leaning against the ice peak.

She had nothing to say. She watched with wide eyes as Adam and Vaarh clashed again and again.

When they received fatal wounds, they killed the monsters, absorbing their powers, each in their own way.

The monsters tried to escape. They realized that staying here was too dangerous. For Adam and Vaarh, they were nothing more than cattle fit only for slaughter.

But no one managed to escape.

Adam and Vaarh had reached too great a height. They moved at tremendous speed, smashing the ice peaks in their path and leaving behind them lines of corpses, torn bodies, and bloody stains.

The entire snow expanse had turned into a bloody battlefield.

”But...” Alexia bit her lip. ”Something’s wrong...”

While Vaarh’s frown grew deeper with each clash, Adam’s face, on the contrary, glowed brighter and brighter, wearing a satisfied smirk.

Perhaps it was the adrenaline before death, or perhaps it was something else.

Click.

In an instant, the Path Construct sprang into motion as Adam’s eyes flashed brightly in the golden light.

One of the two conditions was about to be met.
