The dark, lifeless decapitated torso of Grand Chieftain Bruga’s hit the white limestone bedrock with a heavy, hollow thud that reverberated across the entire valley.

A final, sluggish wave of dark, exhausted blood pooled outward from his withered neck, soaking into the white dust.

For a fraction of a second, the winds sweeping down from the cliffs seemed to stop entirely.

The roaring clatter of weapons, the rabid snarls of the Blood Hounds, and the frantic clashes of spirit manifestations all ground to an absolute, eerie halt.

Thousands of eyes... Coalition warlords, trembling Zharun warriors, traitorous Veynar lineage guards, and exhausted loyalists.... were glued entirely to the place Sol was standing.

The invincible titan of the Gray Marauders.... the monster who had burned his very soul in a desperate Bloodline Overdraft.... was dead.

His massive, twenty-five-foot frame had been hollowed out, reduced to a dry, withered husk of gray skin and brittle bone.

Standing atop that fallen mountain of flesh was Sol.

...

Inside Sol’s body, the extraction of Bruga’s remaining Overdraft essence was triggering an apocalyptic, tectonic shift.

The stolen Layer 4 life-force.... a concentrated torrent of raw, boiling soul power and hyper-dense essence.... flooded through his chest hollow like a tidal wave of liquid gold.

It didn’t just repair his shattered ribs, heal his bruised internal organs, or weld his torn veins back together. It bypassed physical healing entirely and plunged straight into the Sun Core.

BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!

A series of muffled, internal shockwaves echoed inside Sol’s mind.

His dual spirits... the heavy, unyielding Great Orrath Badger and the razor-fast, ethereal Dreadwing... roared in unison. Bathed in the rich, massive essence of a peak Layer 4 warlord, the two spectral entities rapidly evolved.

Their ethereal forms solidified, casting off their hazy, translucent borders until they hummed with a dense, hyper-concentrated physical presence.

In a matter of heartbeats, both spirits violently broke through their previous bottlenecks, surging straight past mid-Layer 3 and stabilizing firmly at the absolute Layer 3 Peak.

Sol’s physical body responded in kind.

His black armor vibrated with a terrifying, ambient hum. The air around him warped under the natural weight of his upgraded, and his neon-crimson eyes burned so brightly they cast long, blood-red shadows across the surrounding slate.

He felt as though he could tear the sky apart with his bare hands.

Is this it? Sol thought, his consciousness riding the crest of the overwhelming energy surge. Is this the momentum that carries me over the wall? Is this where I cross into Layer 4?

The golden floodwaters rushed upward, pressing relentlessly against the invisible, cosmic barrier that separated high-tier mortality from the threshold of true lordship.

His essence channels bulged to their absolute breaking point, screaming under the immense volume of power.

Push! Break it!

He channeled every ounce of his willpower into the core, driving the tidal wave of stolen life-force forward for one final, devastating breakthrough.

CRACK!

An internal barrier splintered like thin ice. The boundary was cracking... the vast, limitless horizon of Layer 4 was right there, a mere inch away, waiting to be claimed.

Then... it abruptly stopped.

The rushing torrent of essence hit an invisible, impenetrable wall and simply stalled.

The golden flood churned, boiled, but ultimately stagnated.

What? Sol’s eyes flashed with sharp, frustrated disbelief. Why isn’t it breaking? I have the volume. I have the density. I have consumed an almost Layer 4!

He probed deeper with his sense, searching for the missing puzzle piece. And there, deep within the foundation of his core, he felt a profound, inescapable void.

He knew with certainty that It wasn’t a lack of energy or talent.

It seemed lika a structural absence.

Like to cross into Layer 4, a practitioner needed more than raw fuel or stolen essence, he needed something more, something like a fundamental comprehension of how their unique authority interacted with the world’s governing laws.

His Free Use authority and soul-siphon mechanics were terrifyingly powerful tools, but they were borrowed, predatory shortcuts.

Without grounding that power into a definitive internal law, his foundation refused to let him cross the final threshold.

He was standing with his toes gripping the very edge of the cliff, staring down into the vast expanse of Layer 4, completely barred from taking that final step because something fundamental was missing.

”Tch...” Sol exhaled a long, sharp breath, a flicker of dark annoyance crossing his features. ”A bottleneck. Of course it wouldn’t be that simple.”

Yet, even stuck at the absolute apex of Layer 3, the quantum leap in his power was staggering.

His stamina seemed almost bottomless, his reflexes transcended his previous physical limits, and his control over his dual spirits was much stronger, as if they were truly a part of his body, instead of forcing things.

Sol slowly opened his eyes, the blinding neon-crimson light dimming into a cold, steady glow. He rotated his shoulders, feeling the effortless, fluid perfection of his newly reinforced frame.

The internal evolution had finished and the harvest from Bruga was complete.

Now it was time for the next part.

He lowered his gaze from the sky and looked across the silent, paralyzed battlefield.

The fighting had completely halted. Thousands of Coalition soldiers, Zharun stalkers, and surviving Veynar loyalists stood frozen where they were, their weapons hanging limply in their hands, their brains utterly incapable of processing the nightmare they had just witnessed. Their greatest champion... the unbreakable Marauder titan... was headless at Sol’s boots.

Sol didn’t waste a single second lingering over the terrified rank-and-file infantry. Small fish could wait.

The Zerith Chief, Chief Vane, and the remaining Coalition powerhouses... Sol’s gaze hardened, his fingers tightening around the hilt of the sapphire Dreadwing blade.

You wanted my blood. You wanted to skin Lumi and turn the valley into a slaughterhouse. Let’s see how much stomach you have left for this war.

....

Chief of Zerith tribe.... the man whose narrow face had been twisted with smug, murderous arrogance just moments ago.... stared down at the blood-soaked limestone floor, his eyes wide, bloodshot, and completely unblinking.
