Chapter 493: Chapter 493: Start of the War

Wen Lan had led one of the Four Great Families of Lanqu County for over a hundred years, and his senses were incredibly sharp.

Prince Zhou Shangyun had summoned all first and second-tier forces in Lanqu County City to a council, except for the Wen Family, which was a clear indication of his intentions.

The Wen Family had to prepare early.

”Clan Leader!” A figure hurriedly entered from outside.

This person was the Sixth Elder, who was in charge of intelligence for the Wen Family.

”Have you found out anything?” Wen Lan stood up, his demeanor tense.

”Yes,” the Sixth Elder nodded.

Everyone in the room turned their attention to the Sixth Elder, noticing his somewhat pale complexion.

What was going on? The Sixth Elder was one of the most stable members of the Wen Family. What could have shaken him so profoundly? Could it be that the Prince was really going to move against the Wen Family? Would those first and second-tier forces actually support Prince Zhou Shangyun?

”Today the Prince gathered those people to discuss the planned attack on our Wen Family!” the Sixth Elder said in a deep voice.

Upon hearing this, a cold light flashed in everyone’s eyes, and a chill ran through their bodies.

If the Prince was determined to move against the Wen Family, they were in big trouble. More than a decade ago, the Lu Family, one of the five great families in Lanqu County City, had been flattened by the Prince overnight. The overall strength of the Wen Family was similar to that of the Lu Family.

That meant that if the Prince decided to do so, he could destroy the Wen Family with the force of the Prince Manor alone, even without the support of other families or powers.

”Damn it!”

”How can the Prince do this?”

”Isn’t he afraid of the Holy City’s blame?” many from the Wen Family said indignantly after the tension.

”The Prince is determined to avenge Jing Yan!”

”Avenge Jing Yan? Even if he is the Prince, he cannot simply pin Jing Yan’s assassination on our Wen Family! Does he have any evidence?”

The Wen Family Council Hall buzzed with noisy debates.

”Clan Leader! Jing Yan, he’s not dead, he’s still alive.” Wen Lan’s face was somber and silent, and the Sixth Elder continued.

”What?” Wen Lan’s eyes widened in shock.

Jing Yan wasn’t dead?

How could that be possible? Dark Night Master Yin had personally gone to assassinate Jing Yan in Haofeng City; how could Jing Yan still be alive?

If Master Yin had failed his mission, why hadn’t he sent a message back to the Wen Family?

Wen Lan had always thought that Master Yin hadn’t come to collect the remaining half of his payment because he was waiting for the situation to calm down. If Jing Yan was still alive, even if Master Yin couldn’t dare enter Lanqu County City, shouldn’t he have sent a message to the Wen Family?

The mission failed, and they didn’t even let the employer know? That’s not like Dark Night’s style.

”Clan Leader! Jing Yan is indeed still alive, and right now he is inside the Prince Manor,” said the Sixth Elder, who was also startled when he first received the news. However, after verification, the fact that Jing Yan was alive was confirmed, and many heads had seen him alive in the Prince Manor.

”And what about Master Yin?” Wen Lan asked reflexively.

At this moment, his heart’s shock was indescribable. If Jing Yan was still alive, what about Master Yin?

”Master Yin was probably killed by Jing Yan,” the Sixth Elder said reluctantly.

Despite his disbelief, Jing Yan being alive while Master Yin had vanished was a fact.

The entire council hall of the Wen Family fell silent at that moment.

Master Yin killed by Jing Yan?

That... was a joke! Master Yin was a well-known Daoist Master Realm fighter with a career spanning over a hundred years and had killed many Daoist Realm Martial Artists. How could such a man be killed by a twenty-year-old kid like Jing Yan?

That was absurd!

”Impossible!” Wen Lan waved his hand and exhaled softly.

It was possible that Jing Yan had used some trick to escape Master Yin’s chase, but to say that Jing Yan had killed Master Yin, Wen Lan absolutely did not believe it. That information must be false, likely fabricated by Jing Yan himself.

”Clan Leader, regardless, this Jing Yan is indeed incredibly strange. Whether he killed Master Yin or not yet can’t be confirmed and requires time to verify. However, Jing Yan’s strength has exceeded my imagination. In the Prince Manor, Jing Yan had a verbal dispute with Vice President Xu Dong of the Alchemist Association, and he challenged Xu Dong to a duel to the death,” the Sixth Elder’s eyes flickered as he continued.

Everyone’s gaze refocused on the Sixth Elder, waiting for him to continue.

”What happened next?” Wen Lan also felt something amiss.

”Xu Dong is dead! He didn’t last a single move against Jing Yan, and was directly killed by him. This news is one hundred percent certain as many eyewitnesses have confirmed,” the Sixth Elder emphasized.

”Whew!”

”Hiss~”

All around the council hall, there were sounds of sharp intakes of breath.

Who was Xu Dong?

He was the Vice President of the Alchemist Association, a Level Five Pill Master. In terms of Martial Arts Cultivation, although he hadn’t stepped into the Daoist Realm, he was a Peak Dao Spirit Realm Martial Artist and was considered a second-tier fighter in Lanqu County City’s region for his individual strength.

Yet such a powerful individual couldn’t withstand a single move from Jing Yan?

Wen Lan’s expression shifted again, and he took a deep breath. A chill ran through him as well; Jing Yan’s progress rate was terrifying and unimaginable!

”Prepare for war immediately! Gentlemen, prepare for battle at once!” Wen Lan’s aura condensed, and he swung his hand sharply, commanding loudly.

”Yes!”

All the people in the council hall stood up and rushed out.

Jing Yan was not only alive, but his combat power had probably reached the Daoist Realm. So, this battle seemed inevitable. Although the Prince Manor was powerful, the Wen Family could not just sit and wait for death.

Meanwhile, as the Wen Family was preparing for battle, a large troop had already departed from the Prince Manor, a dense crowd marching towards the Wen Family Mansion.

A large number of persons clad in black armor, Innate Realm members of the Prince Manor Guard, neatly advanced across the broad streets, and above these Innate Realm Guards, numerous Peak Dao Spirit Realm Martial Artists took flight.

Following the armored guards were Prince Zhou Shangyun, Chief Manager Mu Liantian, Jing Yan, and many leaders of first-tier forces.

The entire city of Lanqu was boiling!

Countless Martial Artists watched as the army from the Prince Manor moved out, observing from a distance.

”What’s happening?”

”What’s the Prince Manor up to?”

”Is a battle about to start?”

”Shh! Keep your voice down. The Prince is going to start a war against the Wen Family!” informed individuals already knew that the Prince Manor was gearing up to strike against the Wen Family.
