Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1709 - 1710: Rebuttal

When Mother Cheng arrived at the doorstep, she immediately heard Qi Xiaoqi’s earth-shattering cries, and her heart tightened involuntarily. She quickly took out her keys to open the door.

She was worried that Qi Xiaoqi would not be used to the place, and to put her mind at ease, she came back early. Now, hearing the cries, she wondered what was going on.

Upon entering, she saw Father Qi holding the endlessly crying Qi Xiaoqi. She put down her grocery basket and walked over, asking, ”What’s going on? Xiao Qi, grandma is here.”

When Qi Xiaoqi saw her, he stretched out his arms. Seeing his little face flushed from crying, with tear jewels hanging on his long lashes, Mother Cheng felt a pang of heartache and immediately started gently comforting him.

Seeing a familiar face, Qi Xiaoqi gradually stopped crying and lay hiccuping on grandma’s shoulder, looking pitiful beyond words.

Seeing this, Mother Qi felt particularly uncomfortable and uneasy.

Isn’t this just favoring the maternal grandma? Look, the more time a person spends with the child, the closer the child is with them.

”Did he poop or what?” Mother Cheng, having soothed Qi Xiaoqi, sat down to check his diaper.

It was just a pee. She deftly changed him and took a new one from a wicker basket beside the sofa to put under him before looking at her in-laws again.

”His grandma was feeding him porridge, but he wasn’t really willing to eat it. When a mouthful went in, he accidentally choked on it, which is why he cried so much,” Father Qi explained.

Mother Cheng found it strange and glanced at the clock, saying, ”At this time, he should be hungry. Why isn’t he eating?” Then she reached out to feel his forehead.

No fever, everything seems fine, she looked at him, saying, ”Xiao Qi, be good. Grandma is feeding you. It’s your favorite porridge, you know.”

Qi Xiaoqi glanced at Mother Qi and then looked away.

Mother Cheng attempted to take the porridge from the table and, seeing Mother Qi sit there awkwardly with a somewhat unhappy face, smiled and said, ”In-law, why don’t you try again?”

Mother Qi then picked up the porridge and, just like before, scooped another spoonful to feed Qi Xiaoqi.

She’s so unhygienic like this, it’s no wonder Qi Xiaoqi won’t eat!

Seeing this, he turned his head away and cried again.

”See, he just doesn’t want to eat? Could it be that his stomach hurts?” Mother Qi said, exasperated and sullen.

Mother Cheng had been watching Mother Qi’s actions the whole time and was momentarily stunned. Suddenly realizing, she cautiously asked, ”In-law, is that how you fed him just now?”

”Yes, how else should I feed him?” Mother Qi responded, looking perplexed.

Mother Cheng asked again, ”Did you put the porridge in your mouth?”

”Yes...” Mother Qi’s complexion changed slightly and she fell silent.

What does this mean? Is this saying she’s dirty?

Seeing her expression, Mother Cheng knew what she was thinking and quickly said, ”In-law, our Xiaoqi is a smart kid. Even though he’s young and can’t talk yet, he can read people’s expressions and understand things. He absolutely won’t eat something others have touched. If you don’t believe me, try getting a fresh bowl of porridge?”

Mother Qi’s face turned dark, and she sat still.

Father Qi took the porridge to the kitchen to dispose of it and brought out a fresh bowl. The porridge was steaming hot, and Mother Cheng only took a small spoonful, cooled it down, and then fed it to the child.

Qi Xiaoqi ate it in one go.

Seeing this, Mother Qi couldn’t feel more embarrassed and couldn’t help but say, ”He’s just a baby. How could he know if someone has eaten it or not? I reckon it’s just because you spend more time with him, so he’s closer to you.”

This remark served not only as a defense for herself but also out of jealousy, hence the sarcastic tone.
