Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1705 - 1706: Dowry

They all say that a family only becomes more complete and perfect when there is a child. Cheng Su has also experienced the joy that a child brings. At least with Qi Xiaoqi, she doesn’t feel as pained about Qi Taiguo not being around.

Days pass by in a cycle of attending school, running the business, and taking care of the baby.

If you ask Cheng Su what she feels most satisfied with right now, it would be the time spent with her son. Every move, every expression, every smile deeply touches your heart. His subtle little gestures often provoke laughter and instantly heal any sadness inside.

Because of this, Cheng Su herself lives like a child.

Everyone in the courtyard knows Qi Taiguo was transferred, and Cheng Su stayed behind. They all thought she would feel uncomfortable, but quite the opposite. In her spare time, she exercises, takes the baby out, and studies. Not only does she not wear the expression of a resentful woman, but she lives younger every day. Even after having a child, her figure is still impressive.

In mid-March, auntie’s family had a joyful event: Deng Weiqiu finally got married, and they hosted a belated wedding feast.

Her partner also works in the army’s canteen. He’s said to be the grandson of the head chef, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, optimistic and hardworking. His family back home has already built two-story houses, making them quite well-off in rural areas. So, having shelter and enough to eat and drink denotes a good family, and Cheng Su is genuinely happy for her.

Since Deng Weiqiu and her partner already held the wedding back home, this feast is merely a post-marriage celebration, just for the joy of it.

The Deng family doesn’t have many relatives. This time, they only invited Cheng Su’s group, Mother Qi and her partner from back home, Qi Fenglian’s family, and a few friends of Deng Weiqiu. With two or three tables, it was considered a complete gift ceremony.

Mother Qi and her company arrived early, partly to drink and partly to see the grandson.

The two tables were arranged at Joy Soon Loy’s. Cheng Su saw Deng Weiqiu wearing two gold rings, a gold necklace, a pair of gold earrings, and a thin gold bracelet on her hand. Her whole being radiated joy and she seemed to genuinely enjoy her married life.

”That’s quite a lot of gold jewelry,” Mother Qi whispered to auntie, ”Did her in-laws give it to her?”

”Both,” auntie replied, ”I gave her a ring and a necklace. I only have this one daughter. These past years, I did cause delays for her. If it wasn’t because her brother lacked ability, there would be more than this.”

Her voice wasn’t loud, but it wasn’t too soft either. Cheng Su, sitting nearby, heard it all clearly. Instinctively, she looked at Liu Wenjing, who was watching her sister-in-law, her eyes landing on the gold jewelry with a dim gaze.

Retracting her gaze, she encountered Cheng Su’s eyes and immediately lowered her head.

Cheng Su smiled slightly and turned to speak with Qi Fenglian.

Qi Fenglian also heard and whispered, ”I’m afraid Weixia’s wife might feel a bit neglected again!”

Cheng Su responded with a sigh but didn’t dwell on this topic; it wasn’t appropriate to discuss others’ family matters in such a setting.

Mother Qi said to her sister, ”That’s about enough. Now it’s just Weixia working to support five mouths. The whole family needs to eat, right? You can’t give all the dowry to Weiqiu. The eldest grandson also needs to go to school.”

Auntie felt slightly unsettled but understood her sister spoke the truth, and sighed, ”Who could deny that? I just have bad luck. Good things don’t come often, but troubles come one after another. The daughter-in-law chosen is also...”

She cast a cold glance at Liu Wenjing and stopped speaking, changing the topic.
