Villain: Manipulating the Heroines into hating the Protagonist

Chapter 889: Reporting Mission Success And Receiving Gratitude

The silence that descended upon the demon’s lair was profound, a stark contrast to the brutal, chaotic violence of moments before. The foul stench of blood and demonic Qi still hung heavy in the air, a grim testament to the evil that had festered there.

Yue Lingshan stood panting softly, her hand still clutching her Verdant Willow Blade, her beautiful face pale behind her veil. She looked from the smooth, empty patch of wall where Mo Jiao had been annihilated to the man standing calmly before her.

Wang Jian. Her savior. Her lover. And, as she had just witnessed, a being of terrifying, unimaginable power.

He walked over to her, the dark, overwhelming demonic aura he had unleashed now completely gone, replaced once more by the warm, steady presence she knew and adored. He gently took her hand, his thumb stroking her skin.

”It is over, Lingshan,” he said, his voice a soft, reassuring murmur. ”You are safe.”

She looked up at him, her heart a chaotic storm of fear, awe, and a love so intense it almost hurt. ”Jian...” was all she could manage to whisper.

He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, then turned his attention to the grim task at hand. He walked over to the spot where Mo Jiao’s desiccated husk had crumbled to dust after he had devoured the demon’s soul.

All that remained was a tattered, low-grade storage pouch lying in the dirt.

Wang Jian picked it up, his expression unreadable. He infused a wisp of his Steller Qi into it, his spiritual sense sweeping through its contents.

”As I thought,” he murmured, a flicker of satisfaction in his eyes. ”Demons, for all their faults, are often quite... wealthy.”

He tipped the contents onto a relatively clean patch of the cave floor. A small pile of glittering low-grade spirit stones spilled out, nearly two hundred of them. There were also a few vials containing viscous, blood-red pills that he immediately identified as crude, low-grade Blood Essence Pills.

”Trash,” he muttered, pushing the pills aside with his foot. ”But these...”

His fingers sifted through the pile, retrieving two items of real interest. The first was a collection of jade slips, their surfaces cool and dark. He quickly scanned them. They contained the Blood Fiend Sect’s core cultivation techniques, including a more complete, if still fragmented, version of the Asura Blood Devil Scripture he had found before.

”More reference material for my own scripture,” he noted internally. ”Useful.”

The second item was a rolled-up scroll made of some kind of tough, leathery beast hide. It was a map, stained with what looked like dried blood, its lines and symbols drawn in a crude, spidery hand.

Yue Lingshan, having regained some of her composure, walked over to stand beside him. ”Jian... what is that map?” she asked, her curiosity overriding her lingering shock.

Wang Jian unrolled it. It depicted a region far to the south, deep within the volatile territory of the State of Jin, the domain of various demonic sects. It marked a hidden route through treacherous mountains to a single, ominous point labeled with a symbol of a bleeding, horned skull.

”A new path, my love,” he said, his voice a low, thoughtful murmur. ”A dangerous one, perhaps. It seems our friend Mo Jiao was on his way to a secret gathering, or perhaps a hidden demonic legacy site.” He rolled the map back up and placed it, along with the other spoils, into his own storage pouch. ”A matter for another time. But an opportunity we will not forget.”

He then turned his gaze to the rest of the gruesome lair. ”We cannot leave this place as it is. The mortals who were held captive here... they should not be haunted by the memory of this filth.”

With a grim determination, he set about cleansing the cave. He used a powerful burst of his Steller Qi, channeled into a cleansing fire spell, to incinerate the blood altar and the gruesome alchemical tools. The bronze cauldron melted into a pool of molten metal under the intense, pure heat.

Yue Lingshan assisted him, using her Water Qi to wash away the bloodstains on the floor and walls, her Wood Qi to encourage the growth of simple mosses and vines over the scorched rock, slowly returning the cave to a semblance of its natural state.

When they were done, the cave was still a dark, empty place, but the aura of profound evil had been purged.

They stepped out of the cave into the first light of dawn. The rising sun was a welcome sight, its warm rays chasing away the lingering chill of the forest and the demon’s lair.

Their return to Oakhaven village was met with a scene of pure, unadulterated joy.

The villagers, who had spent a sleepless night huddled in their homes, praying to the heavens, saw them emerge from the treeline. For a moment, there was a stunned silence. Then, a single child pointed, shouting, ”They’re back! The Immortals are back!”

A wave of relief so powerful it was almost a physical force washed over the village. People poured out of their homes, their faces streaked with tears of joy. They crowded around Wang Jian and Yue Lingshan, their earlier fear replaced by a fervent, almost worshipful, reverence.

Elder Chen pushed his way through the crowd, his old eyes shining. He fell to his knees once more.

”Esteemed Immortals! You... you have returned!” he cried, his voice breaking with emotion. ”The Crimson Fiend...?”

Wang Jian smiled, a calm, heroic expression on his face. ”The demon has been vanquished,” he announced, his voice carrying over the crowd. ”Its evil will trouble this land no more.”

A deafening cheer erupted from the villagers. They laughed, they cried, they embraced each other. They had been living under a shadow of terror for so long, and now, the sun had finally broken through.

”Thank you, Immortals! Thank you!” they chanted, their voices a chorus of profound gratitude.

Elder Chen, his face beaming, tried to offer them payment once more. ”Please, Esteemed Immortals! Our village is poor, but we must offer you something! Our grain, our silver... it is all yours!”

Wang Jian held up a hand, silencing the crowd. He looked at their hopeful, tear-streaked faces, and delivered his lines with the perfection of a master actor.

”Your safety is our only reward,” he said, his voice ringing with noble conviction. ”Live well. Live without fear. And honor the memory of those you have lost by building a better, stronger Oakhaven. That is all the payment we require.”

Yue Lingshan, watching him, felt her heart ache with so much love and admiration she thought it might burst. He was truly a hero, a paragon of righteousness.

She stepped forward, her veiled gaze sweeping over the crowd. She offered gentle words of comfort to the weeping families, her melodic voice a soothing balm to their wounded hearts. She became, in that moment, a celestial fairy of compassion, the perfect counterpart to Wang Jian’s righteous strength.

The villagers, utterly captivated, looked upon them as gods descended to the mortal realm.

Wang Jian knew it was time to report his success to the sect. He produced a simple, leaf-green talisman from his storage pouch. It was a standard-issue, long-distance Communication Talisman.

He infused a wisp of his Qi into it, his message forming in his mind. The message was concise, professional, and devoid of any unnecessary detail.

’Demonic cultivator Mo Jiao of the Blood Fiend Sect, mid-stage Foundation Establishment, eliminated. Threat to mortal villages south of Blackwood Forest neutralized. Mission complete. Deacon Wang Jian.’

He released the talisman. It glowed with a soft green light, then dissolved into a thousand tiny motes of light that shot up into the sky, streaking towards the distant Mystic Peak Sect.

He then turned to the assembled villagers. ”The demon is gone, but the taint of its presence may linger. We will remain in your village for a few days, to ensure no residual demonic Qi remains, and to allow you all to feel secure once more.”

The villagers cheered again, their gratitude boundless.

Later, in private, as he and Lingshan were shown to the largest, cleanest house in the village, which had been hastily prepared for them, he told her the other reason for their stay.

”Your shoulder was grazed by the skull’s energy,” he said, his voice a low, intimate murmur as he gently touched the spot through her robe. ”It was a soul-draining attack. Though I neutralized the immediate effect, a trace of its resentful energy might remain. You need a few days of rest and purification to ensure it is completely purged.”

Yue Lingshan was deeply touched by his consideration. She had almost forgotten the minor injury in the heat of the moment, but he had not. ”You always think of me, Jian,” she whispered, her heart full.

Their few days in Oakhaven were a peaceful, idyllic interlude. The villagers treated them with a reverence that bordered on worship, bringing them the best food they could offer, mending their travel-worn robes, and speaking to them in hushed, respectful tones.

Wang Jian and Yue Lingshan spent their days in quiet cultivation, and their nights in a tender, loving intimacy that was a stark contrast to the wild, desperate passion of their recent past. This was a different side of their relationship, a quiet, domestic bliss that felt surprisingly, wonderfully natural.

Wang Jian would use the pure, vibrant energy of the Verdant Eternal Spring Essence to personally heal Lingshan’s shoulder, his hands glowing with a soft green light as he massaged the area, his touch both healing and sensuous. The last vestiges of the demonic taint were flushed from her system, leaving her feeling refreshed and revitalized.

She, in turn, would brew him tea, her movements graceful and serene, her eyes shining with a deep, quiet love as she watched him. They talked for hours, sharing stories, dreams, and ambitions, their bond deepening with every shared word, every gentle touch.

Their lovemaking during these nights was slow, tender, a celebration of their shared victory and their deepening affection. He held her, kissed her, worshiped her body with a reverence that made her feel like the most cherished woman in all the realms.

Finally, after three days, Lingshan was fully recovered, her spirit and body completely cleansed. It was time to leave.

The entire village of Oakhaven turned out to see them off. It was a tearful, emotional farewell. The villagers pressed simple, handcrafted gifts into their hands – a woven grass bracelet, a carved wooden bird, a pouch of fragrant dried flowers. Wang Jian and Lingshan accepted them all with gracious smiles.

”We will never forget you, Esteemed Immortals!” Elder Chen called out, his voice thick with emotion.

As they rose into the sky on the Serpent Scale Soarer, leaving the cheering village behind, Yue Lingshan leaned her head against Wang Jian’s shoulder.

”Jian,” she said, her voice soft. ”Seeing those villagers... their gratitude, their hope. It makes what we do feel so... meaningful.”

Wang Jian wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close. ”It is, Lingshan,” he replied, his voice a warm, sincere murmur that she fully believed. ”Power is meaningless unless it can be used to protect those who cannot protect themselves.”

He kissed the top of her veiled head. ’And, of course,’ he added silently, his eyes gleaming with a cold, pragmatic light, ’the reputation of the Mystic Peak Sect as demon-slaying heroes, spread by these grateful mortals, will certainly be... useful in the future.’

He looked ahead, towards the rugged, winding mountain range that lay on the horizon.

”But now,” he said, his tone shifting, a familiar, adventurous spark returning to his voice, ”a different kind of challenge awaits. A merchant caravan, treacherous mountain passes, and who knows what else.”

He smirked. ”Even a simple escort mission can have its... surprises.”

The Serpent Scale Soarer surged forward, a dark, silent streak against the sky, carrying the two cultivators towards Serpent’s Pass, towards their next mission.
