Villain: Manipulating the Heroines into hating the Protagonist

Chapter 871: Great Alliance

The week of Liu Ruyan’s seclusion passed in a haze of intense cultivation and even more intense intimacy. The vast, silent cavern became a private world for Wang Jian and Yue Lingshan, a sanctuary where the only laws that mattered were those of power and passion. Their shared ambition fueled their days; their shared desires consumed their nights.

On the morning of the eighth day, a profound shift in the cavern’s energy jolted them from their meditative states. The deep, humming silence that had emanated from Liu Ruyan’s sealed chamber ceased. A moment later, the intricate containment array she had established shimmered, its fiery runes dissolving into motes of light. The massive boulder blocking the entrance slid aside with a low groan, moved by a surge of controlled spiritual energy.

Liu Ruyan emerged.

She was transformed. Her ethereal, serene temperament remained, but it was now underscored by a vibrant, almost palpable heat. Her medicinal green robes seemed to ripple with an inner fire, and her eyes, visible even through the fine silk of her veil, held a new, confident spark. A tiny, brilliant crimson flame, no larger than a candle’s flicker, danced playfully on the tip of her outstretched finger. It was the Blood Spirit Flame, now tamed, subdued, an extension of her will.

”It is done,” she announced, her melodious voice carrying a note of undeniable triumph. ”I have successfully integrated the essence of the Blood Spirit Flame. My control over alchemical refinement will be forever changed.”

Yue Lingshan stepped forward, a warm, genuine smile on her lips beneath her veil. ”Congratulations, Sister Liu! That is a truly wonderful achievement!”

Wang Jian offered a polite, approving nod. ”A formidable accomplishment, Fairy Liu. Such control over a natural spiritual flame is a mark of profound talent.” He kept his tone measured, his gaze appreciative but not overly familiar.

”I could not have done it without your protection,” Liu Ruyan said, extinguishing the flame with a thought. She bowed gracefully. ”I am deeply in your debt.”

”A debt we can now begin to settle,” Wang Jian said smoothly, immediately pivoting from pleasantries to business. The time for rest was over. ”The fire-aspected herbs you promised. You will lead us to them.”

”Of course, Senior Brother Wang,” she agreed readily.

”But,” Wang Jian continued, his tone unwavering, ”our agreement needs an amendment. The Blood Forbidden Ground is a rare opportunity. There are other herbs, other treasures, in regions beyond the Cinderwaste Caldera. Herbs that are unique to this place. We have time, and we have the strength. I propose we extend our alliance. You will guide us not only to the fire-aspected herbs, but assist us in acquiring other rare spiritual flora from different regions.”

Liu Ruyan hesitated, her veiled face tilting in thought. ”Senior Brother Wang, your ambition is admirable. However, the other rare herbs I know of, in places like the Weeping Willow Mire or the Obsidian Forest... the sect records are clear. They are of low spiritual age, merely a few hundred years old. While rare in type, their potency is insufficient for concocting the advanced pellets my Crimson Pill Sect truly values. They are not worth the risk of facing the beasts that guard them.”

Before Wang Jian could press the point, Yue Lingshan stepped forward, her voice filled with a carefully crafted reasonableness. ”But Sister Liu, to leave such resources behind would be a great waste, would it not?”

Her argument was perfectly aligned with the pragmatic logic Wang Jian had been subtly instilling in her.

”Even if the plants themselves are not of high age,” Yue Lingshan continued, ”their seeds, their roots, their very existence, is invaluable. They are species thought lost to the world. With the right cultivation methods, they could be nurtured, their lineage preserved and propagated. For an alchemist, surely the potential of a future harvest is as valuable as an immediate one?”

Wang Jian nodded in support. ”Senior Sister Yue speaks wisely. Their potential is what we seek. The opportunity is before us now. It would be a profound regret to walk away from it.”

Liu Ruyan looked from Yue Lingshan’s earnest, veiled face to Wang Jian’s calm, confident one. He wasn’t just a powerful fighter; he possessed a forward-thinking, strategic mind. And the princess... she was no mere ornament; she was sharp and persuasive. They were a formidable pair. The idea of cultivating extinct herbs... it was an ambitious, long-term project, but it resonated with her alchemist’s soul. And traveling with them... it was undeniably safer.

”You make a compelling argument,” Liu Ruyan conceded after a moment of deliberation. A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched her lips beneath her veil. ”Very well. The risk is significant, but the potential reward... it is indeed too great to ignore. I will lead you to the other locations. Our alliance is extended.”

And so, their journey resumed, now with a new purpose and a more solidified pact. They traveled first to the Valley of Smoldering Flora, as originally promised. The fire-aspected herbs there were potent and plentiful. Yue Lingshan and Liu Ruyan, with her new, flame-enhanced power, easily dispatched the guardian beasts, while Wang Jian maintained his facade of a ”recovering” cultivator, observing, conserving his strength, and subtly directing their tactics with quiet suggestions.

After systematically harvesting the valley, they moved on. Their next destination was the Weeping Willow Mire, a place Yue Lingshan had already navigated.

It was here they first encountered another faction. As they skirted a particularly murky bog, a group of five cultivators in the medicinal green robes of the Crimson Pill Sect emerged from the mist. Their leader, a stern-faced Twelfth Stage disciple with an arrogant air, named Elder Brother Feng, immediately frowned upon seeing Wang Jian and Yue Lingshan.

”Sister Liu! What is the meaning of this? Consorting with disciples from another sect? Especially these Mystic Peak upstarts?” his voice was sharp with disapproval.

Before Yue Lingshan or Wang Jian could react, Liu Ruyan glided forward gracefully. ”Senior Brother Feng,” she said, her voice calm but firm. ”These are my allies, Senior Brother Wang and Sister Yue of Mystic Peak. They saved my life from a flock of Crimson-Eyed Vultures. We have formed an alliance for mutual protection and benefit.”

Senior Brother Feng’s arrogant expression faltered. He looked from Liu Ruyan’s determined face to Wang Jian and Yue Lingshan, his gaze lingering on them with renewed assessment. Saving a prominent inner sect disciple like Liu Ruyan was no small matter.

”Is that so?” he grunted. After a tense moment, he gave a curt nod. ”Very well. If they are your allies, Sister Liu, then they are not our enemies. For now. But do not forget your duty to the sect.” With a final, suspicious glare, he led his group away, leaving them unmolested.

Liu Ruyan’s presence had proven its worth.

Their next stop was the Obsidian Forest, a dark, foreboding expanse of petrified black trees and razor-edged shadows. They were searching for a patch of Shadowvein Fungus, a parasitic growth known for its use in soul-dampening poisons and stealth-enhancing potions.

They found the fungus growing on the underside of a massive, petrified log. But as they approached, two figures detached themselves from the shadows.

They wore the unsettling, form-fitting black leather and emotionless porcelain masks of the Silent Puppet Guild. Beside each of them stood a life-sized combat puppet, one fashioned like a multi-limbed metal spider, the other like a hulking, armored warrior, their joints moving with an eerie, silent grace.

”This area is now claimed by our Guild,” one of the masked disciples said, his voice a flat, synthesized monotone. ”Leave the fungus. And the two fairies. Such fine specimens... would make excellent material for... new additions to our collection.”

The veiled threat was unmistakable.

Wang Jian stepped forward, a cold light in his eyes. ”You have made a poor choice.”

The battle erupted. The two puppets lunged, their movements unnaturally fast and powerful. The metal spider scuttled forward, its multiple bladed limbs a whirlwind of steel. The armored warrior charged, its massive fist aimed to pulverize.

”The puppets!” Yue Lingshan cried, her Nightwind Terror Fan already creating gusts of wind to slow the spider’s advance.

Liu Ruyan reacted instantly, throwing a pellet that exploded into a cloud of thick, corrosive green mist, aimed at the warrior puppet’s joints.

Wang Jian took the lead, his Glacial Bite a streak of icy light. He didn’t engage the puppets’ armored bodies head-on. He analyzed their movements, the flow of spiritual energy from their masters to their control runes. With his profound understanding of energy dynamics, he saw the subtle flaws, the momentary delays in their command responses.

He dodged the warrior’s punch, his sword lashing out not at its chest, but at the less-armored elbow joint, his Qi-infused blade severing a crucial control line. The puppet’s arm went limp.

He then met the spider puppet, using his Azure Serpent Strike to entangle its scuttling legs while Yue Lingshan’s wind blasts threw it off balance. Liu Ruyan’s alchemical bombs, targeted with precision, corroded the delicate mechanisms in its underbelly.

The two Puppet Guild disciples, seeing their prized puppets being systematically dismantled, let out cries of fury and tried to engage directly, their own weapons short, wicked-looking daggers.

It was a fatal mistake. Separated from their primary weapons, they were vulnerable. Wang Jian dispatched one with a single, clean thrust through the heart. Yue Lingshan, her confidence soaring, engaged the other, her Verdant Willow Blade a dance of deadly grace, finishing him moments later.

They looted the pouches, finding several intricate puppet control scrolls and unique, high-grade spiritual metals used in puppet construction. ’Valuable,’ Wang Jian noted, storing them away.

Their journey continued, a relentless advance through the deadly wonders of the Forbidden Ground. And in the background, another, colder journey was unfolding.

Far to the north, in a region of frozen crags and biting, spectral winds known as the Glacial Heart Wastes, Chen Ying moved alone. Her robes, the pale blue of a winter sky, seemed to merge with the icy landscape. Her beautiful face, unveiled in this desolate solitude, was an exquisite mask of cold focus.

She was the granddaughter of Ancestor Chen, a pearl of the Mystic Peak Sect’s inner circle, her talent undeniable, her bearing regal. But here, she was a hunter.

An Ice-Quilled Porcupine, a high-level First Rank beast, burst from a snowdrift, launching a volley of razor-sharp ice quills at her.

Chen Ying didn’t flinch. With a graceful wave of her hand, a crystalline wall of ice, far more solid and intricate than any simple Jade Water Shield, materialized before her, the quills shattering against it harmlessly. Her own spirit sword, a slender blade named ’Winter’s Kiss’ that seemed carved from pure ice, flashed out. ”Frost Lotus Blooming!” she murmured, her voice as cold as the wind.

A beautiful, deadly lotus flower made of pure ice energy bloomed around the porcupine, its petals closing in, shredding the beast to pieces in a shower of frozen blood and crystalline shards.

She collected its inner core without a change in expression. This was a means to an end. Her true purpose lay deeper.

She consulted a secret map, a piece of ancient, yellowed beast hide given to her by her grandfather. It depicted a hidden path, a secret location within the Glacial Heart Wastes, a place not marked on any official sect chart.

’The Tomb of the Azure Soul,’ she thought, her cold eyes gleaming with a flicker of ambition. ’Grandfather said the legacy of the Nascent Soul sword cultivator, Lan Fengzi, is hidden there. A complete Nascent Soul level sword art, and perhaps... his personal sword, the Azure Soul Requiem.’

The pressure on her was immense. Her grandfather expected her to secure this legacy. It was the key to solidifying her position as the undeniable future leader of the Mystic Peak Sect, a path to power that would elevate her far beyond her peers. She would not fail.

Back in the warmer, blood-stained regions, Wang Jian’s group reached the foothills of the Bone Dragon Peaks. They were searching for the ’Skeletal Wyrm Iris’, a rare flower that grew only where the bone dust of ancient draconic beasts had enriched the soil. Its petals were said to be a key catalyst for certain soul-tempering elixirs.

They found a small, sheltered valley where several of the iridescent, bone-white irises bloomed. But the valley was already occupied.

A large group of seven Azure Sword Clan disciples stood there, their leader a handsome, arrogant young man at the peak Thirteenth Stage of Qi Condensation, his spirit sword radiating a palpable sharpness. This was Li Jianchen, one of the most prominent inner sect disciples of his generation.

His eyes, sharp and predatory, swept over the arriving trio. They paused on the beautiful, veiled forms of Yue Lingshan and Liu Ruyan, a flicker of unconcealed lust and possessiveness in his gaze.

”Well, look what we have here,” Li Jianchen sneered, his voice dripping with arrogance. ”A couple of Mystic Peak weaklings and a little alchemist from the Crimson Pill Sect. You’ve arrived just in time to watch us harvest these irises.”

He gestured with his sword towards Wang Jian. ”Hand over the two fairies, and I might let you die with your limbs intact, Mystic Peak dog. A man like you has no right to stand beside such beauty.”

His companions chuckled, their hands resting on their sword hilts, their expressions a mixture of contempt and lust.

Yue Lingshan’s eyes flashed with anger behind her veil. Liu Ruyan’s serene aura turned icy.

Wang Jian simply stepped forward, Glacial Bite materializing in his hand. His expression was calm, but his eyes were as cold and unforgiving as a winter abyss.

”You speak too much,” was all he said.

”Arrogant fool! Kill him!” Li Jianchen roared.

The battle was instant, explosive.

Li Jianchen, as the peak Thirteenth Stage leader, charged Wang Jian directly, his sword a blur of azure light. ”Azure Vortex Slash!”

Wang Jian met him, their blades clashing in a shower of brilliant sparks. Li Jianchen was fast, his technique refined, his Qi sharp. But Wang Jian’s Steller Qi was denser, more potent, and his swordsmanship, honed over countless lifetimes, was a perfect blend of ruthless efficiency and profound insight.

Meanwhile, Yue Lingshan and Liu Ruyan faced the other six Azure Sword disciples, who ranged from Tenth to Twelfth Stage.

It was a beautiful, deadly symphony of coordinated destruction.

Yue Lingshan’s Nightwind Terror Fan created disorienting whirlwinds, breaking their formations, while her Verdant Willow Blade danced, its strikes precise and deadly. Her Azure Serpent Strike entangled and tripped, creating openings.

Liu Ruyan was a goddess of alchemical warfare. She unleashed the Blood Spirit Flame, streams of crimson and white fire consuming one disciple who got too close. She threw pellets that exploded into clouds of paralyzing gas, slowing their reactions, and others that coated their swords in a corrosive acid that ate at their spiritual energy.

Their synergy was perfect. Yue Lingshan created chaos and openings; Liu Ruyan exploited them with devastating area-of-effect attacks. Two Azure Sword disciples fell within the first minute, one consumed by flame, the other decapitated by Yue Lingshan’s blade as he stumbled through a cloud of paralyzing mist.

The main battle, however, was between Wang Jian and Li Jianchen. It was a spectacular duel, a clash of two of the strongest cultivators at their level in the Forbidden Ground. Li Jianchen’s attacks were a furious storm of azure light, each slash carrying the sharp, cutting intent of his sect’s heritage.

Wang Jian was a rock in the storm. He parried, he deflected, he sidestepped, his movements economical, his Glacial Bite a wall of impenetrable, icy steel. He was weathering Li Jianchen’s initial, furious assault, letting him expend his Qi, analyzing his patterns, his every feint and thrust.

”Is that all you have, Azure Sword dog?” Wang Jian taunted, his voice calm, enraging Li Jianchen further. ”Such... predictable movements.”

Li Jianchen roared, his pride wounded, and unleashed his strongest technique, a desperate, all-or-nothing lunge, his entire body and sword enveloped in a piercing azure light.

Wang Jian saw the opening he had been waiting for.

He didn’t try to block. He activated his Shadowmeld Talisman. For a single, crucial second, his body blurred, becoming a semi-transparent ripple in the air.

Li Jianchen’s all-powerful strike passed through the afterimage, his momentum carrying him forward, his back now exposed.

The shadow solidified behind him.

Wang Jian’s Glacial Bite, infused with the full, dense power of his Twelfth Stage Steller Qi, plunged deep into Li Jianchen’s back, piercing his heart and his dantian in a single, devastating thrust.

Li Jianchen froze, the azure light around him flickering and dying. He looked down in disbelief at the icy blade protruding from his chest, then turned his head, his eyes wide with horror and incomprehension as he saw Wang Jian standing calmly behind him. ”How...?” was the last word he ever spoke.

Wang Jian wrenched his sword free, and Li Jianchen collapsed.

The remaining Azure Sword disciples, seeing their powerful leader fall so decisively, lost all will to fight. Their panicked retreat was cut short by Yue Lingshan’s relentless pursuit and Liu Ruyan’s crippling alchemical attacks.

Minutes later, the valley was silent once more, save for the sighing of the wind through the Skeletal Wyrm Irises. Seven bodies lay scattered on the crimson soil.

Wang Jian stood over the corpse of Li Jianchen, his expression impassive as he began the familiar process of looting. Another significant haul of resources, another set of high-grade sword arts to analyze, another step forward on his path of conquest. He looked off towards the distant, misty peaks, his mind already on what lay beyond this valley, beyond this Forbidden Ground. The seeds he had planted were beginning to sprout.
