CEO's Reborn Wife

At this time, Yvette’s phone call came in.

Like someone who loves to stir things up, she immediately said, ”James hasn’t been put in his place.”

”Sister Yvette is right.” Jane Sampson nodded heavily, ”Thomas and James weren’t in the same grade, right? How did she get to know James?”

”She used to follow Thomas around inside the great courtyard and saw James. Emily was like Thomas’s shadow when she was little. Thomas, the pig, never thought about leaving her behind and just brought her along to play with us. He said that since the little miss was there, it wouldn’t be right to ignore her, so he let her play. Later, when I found out Emily liked James, I told Thomas, who thought I was overthinking. He reckoned that girls generally wouldn’t fancy James.”

Yvette snorted, ”These guys are blind. I noticed when Emily’s eyes were always fixed on James. It wasn’t until she handed over a love letter in high school that Thomas finally believed it. By then, your marriage contract with James was already settled, and Thomas told Emily not to go looking for him anymore, which left Emily with no chance to get close to James.”

”Emily always had good grades at school. I heard she met James while attending a Mathematical Olympiad. Later, the teacher at her school somehow found out that Emily knew James and our group, so they suggested Emily consult with James and learn from him.”

”Emily really did take her Math Olympiad workbook to find Thomas, asking him to check if James could teach her. Do you know how James responded to Emily back then?” Yvette asked Jane to guess.

Hearing the laughter in Yvette’s voice, Jane knew James probably didn’t agree. However, she couldn’t figure out exactly how James had responded to Emily.

In general, it must have been quite a cold response.

When James was studying, as a young man, he really had an exceptionally distant personality.

Back then, Old Sir wasn’t as enlightened or as good-naturedly teasing as he is now. James was brought up under Old Sir’s tutelage. They called it steadiness, but in reality, it was just ice-cold.

To those childhood friends inside the great courtyard, James considered them his own. But to everyone outside that circle, they were outsiders, and James’s attitude toward strangers was always like a cold breeze sweeping fallen leaves.

Indifferent.

And don’t expect James to be even a bit gentle out of consideration for any girl’s feelings.

Understand, James was never gentle with her, his childhood betrothal companion, even back when they were both still in school. ”James just told Emily that he’s not her teacher and has no obligation to guide her,” Yvette said, bursting into laughter, practically cackling through the phone.

”You tell me, with James’s personality being such a jerk in the past, how could Emily like him for so long? I swear, if Thomas dared to say that to me, I’d make him get lost as far as the horizon.” Yvette declared, ”James said this right in front of all of us.”

”Normally, girls would be scared off by James, but Emily wasn’t normal at all. Just to catch up with James, she even skipped grades, trying to be in the same year as James, but the school stopped her. Whenever James entered a competition, she desperately sought a spot to participate together.”

”In any case, she looked for every opportunity to get close to James. Oh, did I ever tell you about the time when James graduated, his ID photo was posted on the school bulletin board for excellent graduate promotion, and then the photo disappeared by the next evening?”
