CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 2239: Chapter 2248: Like Attending a Funeral

The Old Sir Carter kept holding Jane Sampson and James Black’s hands while speaking, ”Jane, this little lass didn’t grow up in the Carter family and has suffered a lot. We all feel for her, no matter the past. Nowadays, our family is finally reunited. Both I and Jane’s grandma are very happy, and we ask everyone to help take care of our beloved granddaughter Jane from now on.”

Every word was a pampering ’little lass,’ every sentence a ’beloved granddaughter,’ and everyone understood that the entire Carter family cherished this granddaughter who had been lost-and-found for many years.

”Monkey King of Sampson, welcome back!” Rose Carter suddenly shouted loudly from underneath and clapped her hands with great effort as if she didn’t feel any pain.

With Rose Carter leading, coupled with Oscar Wilson whistling underneath, the atmosphere instantly changed.

Everyone offered Jane Sampson the greatest kindness.

Jane Sampson stood by the Old Sir Carter, smiling faintly all the while. Just like the Old Sir said, everyone here today was close family, so everyone would welcome her return with goodwill.

After announcing the important matters, Old Sir Carter introduced everyone present today to Jane Sampson and James Black once, just as Rose Carter mentioned, Jane Sampson gained many titles such as ’cousin’ or ’niece,’ even ’dearest madam.’

After everyone was acquainted, Old Sir Carter finally let Jane Sampson and James Black play on their own.

Oscar Wilson waved from afar, calling Jane Sampson to go over. Seeing this, Jane Sampson pulled James Black along.

”Have some food. Today, the dessert chef your family invited is especially hard to come by. The desserts they make are delicious and not greasy at all,” Oscar Wilson said, pointing a few out to Jane Sampson, ”this, this, this, I particularly like, and also that mochi; I especially love every flavor. Later, I’ll definitely have your mother pack some for me to take back!”

Being a big foodie already, Jane Sampson’s eyes lit up when she heard Oscar Wilson say this.

She turned to glance at James Black. Seeing he showed no sign of stopping her, Jane Sampson went for it directly, reaching for the mousse with strawberries on top.

”You didn’t notice Jane Black standing in the far corner just now. You were standing by the Old Sir smiling like the Laughing Buddha, while she was standing there, looking just as ghastly as a ghoul.”

As Oscar Wilson finished speaking, Rose Carter pulled over another girl from the same family.

”Ghoul? That’s an insult to ghouls!” Rose Carter retorted in a hushed voice, ”Her expression was more like she’d lost her parents or something, tsk tsk tsk.”

Jane Sampson stopped her actions of eating, not knowing if she should laugh or scold these two people who seemed to say increasingly poisonous things.

Seeing Jane Sampson staring at her, Rose Carter didn’t dodge or hide, directly saying, ”Jane Black wasn’t like this when she was young. Back then, everyone would go find her to play. As we grew up, especially after she came back from studying abroad, she changed dramatically. After returning, she wouldn’t even glance at people properly, always with an attitude as though she was above everyone else. There are few of us who still like to play with her, and even if there are, it’s just those trying to curry favor with her as the Elder Miss of Carter Family.”

Halfway through Rose Carter’s speech, a slightly younger girl beside her tugged on her sleeve, ”Stop talking, they’re coming over too.”
