Chapter 725: Chapter 733: Adding a Bed

The two of them were quiet for a long time, finally it was James Black who compromised.

After a while, James Black suddenly spoke up, ”Go call a nurse in to add a companion care bed.”

No sooner had he finished speaking than the woman who had been pretending to sleep immediately stood up.

”Okay!” Her voice had hardly sounded crisp and clear, and she was already scampering off to the ward door.

”Miss Nurse, Miss Nurse, please add a bed care for me here.”

James Black could hear the emotions in Jane Sampson’s voice from in the bed, she was very happy.

He must have been the first person to ever see someone so happy about sleeping in a hospital ward.

The nurse quickly brought in the bed care, and Jane Sampson, while chatting with the nurse, helped her set up the bed. After it was set up, Jane Sampson was smiling as she escorted the young nurse to the ward door.

”I’ll sleep on this bed!” When Jane Sampson turned back, she immediately pushed the companion care bed all the way beside James Black’s sickbed, stopping only when the two beds were side by side.

After looking it over, she exclaimed, ”Hey, my bed is lower than yours!”

Then, an unhappy expression crossed her little face.

”Why aren’t all the hospital beds the same height?” Jane Sampson muttered to herself as she took off her shoes and climbed onto the bed. After sitting down, she didn’t forget to turn her head and say to James Black, ”The hospital nurses haven’t come yet. If you get thirsty tonight, or feel uncomfortable anywhere, when you wake up, you must tell me.”

”Mm,” James Black’s voice was low as he replied, yet he still shifted his body a bit closer in the direction of Jane’s bed.

Looking at the woman lying on the bed which was slightly lower than his, James Black tugged at the corner of his mouth, ”Turn off the light, and get some rest early.”

Jane Sampson stretched out her hand and turned off the lights in the ward; tossing and turning in the bed care, she struggled to fall asleep for a long time.

But James Black on the sickbed had already fallen asleep, even his breathing was slow and even.

Every so often, Jane Sampson would get up to peek at James Black, who was asleep. She was always afraid that if she slept too deeply, she wouldn’t hear if James Black called her or he might not call her at all, thinking she was sleeping too soundly in case something happened.

However, after tossing and turning for half the night, Jane Sampson was still struggling to fight off the sleepiness, and she sat up, thought for a moment, and then shifted positions.

Post-surgery, James Black had slept very soundly all night, but the next day, as soon as it was light, he woke up at around over five o’clock, following his accustomed biological clock.

Upon opening his eyes, James Black instinctively searched for Jane Sampson’s whereabouts in the ward.

Then, he was quite surprised to find the woman, who had curled up in a corner at the foot of the bed to sleep, in his own sickbed.

She had almost entirely burrowed herself into the quilt, her head resting on his waist, knees curled up like a newborn baby, sleeping on her side facing him.

Concerned that she might suffocate and panic for lack of air, James Black moved his feet and shook the quilt a bit, but unexpectedly, this slight movement directly woke her up.

She sat up straight almost reflexively and then turned her head to look at him, her pair of eyes still drowsy, clearly not yet fully awake.

Her physical movements were more awake than her brain was.

”Is something wrong, James Black?” She asked softly while rubbing her eyes with one hand and continuing to hold onto the stuff she had been gripping with the other.

It was only then that James Black realized that she had been sleeping by his side, and even in sleep, her hands were tightly clutching the hem of his patient’s clothes; no wonder just lifting his leg and kicking the quilt had startled her awake.
