CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Rebirth

She clenched her teeth and struggled fiercely to pull her hand out, even though the intense pain in her wrist made her break out in cold sweats, she still kept clenching her teeth, inching her hand out bit by bit.

Cement and rebar had scraped her fingertips raw, and her wrist was in so much pain that it was nearly numb, but Jane Sampson still struggled without care for anything else.

”If you want to keep your hand, stop moving.” Noticing that Jane Sampson had suddenly become quiet, James Black growled at her, ”Are you crazy?”

”James, I want to touch you, I need to make sure you’re really okay.” Jane Sampson sobbed in response, ”My face is covered in the blood you coughed up, I can’t open my eyes, and even if I could, I can’t see you clearly.”

With Jane Sampson’s words, James Black suddenly felt someone gently touching near his ear; he turned his head, and there it was, a hand so close before his eyes, its vague silhouette visible, all fingers bent, and the wrist twisted at an angle impossible for the ordinary person.

She disregarded her hand, enduring the pain to pull it out just to touch him? To make sure he was really okay?

In that moment, something in James Black’s heart skipped a beat as if something had struck it hard, the pain at the heart center more intense than anywhere else on his body.

Her fingertips, devoid of strength, moved inch by inch on his face; he could hear her increasingly heavy breathing, the more and more rapid heartbeat.

Until the world became quiet and life ceased.

——

On a summer night, the unceasing chirps of cicadas outside the window contrasted with the bustling street downstairs.

But a single window was enough to block out all the noise, as if everything in the outside world had nothing to do with her.

Looking down from the 33rd floor as dusk fell, the moment the residential community street lamps lit up, it was like a series of candles illuminating the not-yet-dark world.

Jane Sampson leaned her head against the bay window, her black hair cascading like a waterfall over her shoulders, casually embodying a touch of languor.

Her black pupils, bright as the stars and moon, were open without any flicker of emotion; her small mouth pouted slightly, but her expression was clearly filled with gloom. She moved her wrist, gaze falling on her delicate, boneless palms. The pain of the broken bones still made her somewhat fearful, but that pain felt like a dream, so real, yet so unreal.

Jane Sampson picked up her mobile phone from next to her and glanced at it, her gaze locking onto the time displayed, confirming over and over again that after dying in the earthquake, she really did return to one year before.

Of course, what depressed Jane Sampson the most was that she had planned to settle everything once she got home and go through the divorce procedures with James Black, but in the end, she even died alongside that boring man.

”Sister! Sister!”

Anxious calls from outside the door pulled Jane Sampson back from her reverie into this real world, and she hopped down from the bay window and ran to open the door.

At the gate entrance stood a bright 20-year-old youth in formal wear, holding a gift; he must have been knocking for a long time, so he was getting out his phone to make a call.

Seeing the door open, Bright Sampson muttered a greeting in a low voice, looked up and then sighed again.

”Sister, at this time, you’re still dressed like that? Are you coming home or not?” Bright Sampson stepped past Jane Sampson, who was standing in the doorway looking dazed, and entered the home while urging her, ”Looking at you, so clueless, you couldn’t have forgotten about today’s important event, could you?”
