Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1437: Chapter 842: The Decision

On that rare windless day, the sun poured down, creating a gentle warmth. After breakfast and tidying up, Granny Qi brought a small stool and sat in the courtyard to soak up the sun.

Granny Qi was eighty-four this year. Lately, she felt somewhat uneasy, as the saying goes, ”At seventy-three or eighty-four, King Yan isn’t calling, but you might still go.”

Although she was still relatively strong, who could predict the whims of fate?

Considering her age, having sons and grandsons means she’s lived enough. But with her grandson and granddaughter-in-law living so far apart, she wasn’t sure when the whole family could gather together. Even if she passed away, she wouldn’t be able to close her eyes in peace.

Her granddaughter-in-law was truly good, unmatched in her filial piety for ten miles around. Thinking of this, the old lady wiped her eyes, pressed her palms together, and muttered: ”Dear heavens, take me if you wish, but please let my grandson and granddaughter-in-law have a good life. They’re such good kids, don’t let them struggle anymore...”

”Bang!” The door beside her suddenly flew open, startling Granny Qi. Without looking, she knew it had to be the great-grandchild.

”Great Grandmother, let me tie your leg warmers.” The skinny little girl, holding a black leg warmer strap, ran over. Just as she reached close, she stumbled over a small stone and fell onto the old lady.

Granny Qi quickly embraced her and took the leg warmers: ”Yan’er knows how to care for Great Grandmother. Such a good child.”

”Mommy told me to bring it to Great Grandmother, saying she’s afraid of the cold.” Yan’er flashed a toothy grin at Granny and turned her body to run back.

”Slow down, don’t trip again.” Granny Qi called out anxiously.

”Granny, don’t worry about her. She’ll remember after falling a few times.” A woman in her thirties came out from the house and helped Granny Qi fasten the leg warmers, ”Granny, after this busy period, once we deliver the goods, I’ll take you to visit Second Grandma and Third Grandma.”

”Qin, don’t always worry about Granny...” Granny Qi’s rough fingers brushed across her granddaughter-in-law’s cheek, full of heartache, ”You’re out every day delivering; look at how the wind has chapped your face.”

The woman called Qin was Qi Xing’s wife, Yue Qin. Granny Qi was Qi Xing’s grandmother.

”Granny, it’s okay, I’m young. A little hard work doesn’t matter, as long as our family is together, living harmoniously, no matter how tired I get, I’m happy.” Yue Qin smiled contentedly, ”Marrying into the Qi Family, I’ve been truly content.”

”Silly child.” The old lady rubbed her frostbitten, purple-scarred ear, ”Next time you deliver, wear a thick scarf... Oh, if Xiao Xing saw this, he’d be heartbroken.”

”Granny...” Yue Qin’s cheeks flushed. Up till now, only her parents-in-law and Great Grandmother knew about her relationship with Qi Xing, so each time this was mentioned, she felt embarrassed.

”Qin, today your dad and I will deliver. Look at your ears, they’re almost frozen off.” Mrs. Qi hobbled out. She was in her sixties, not very tall, with cheeks blistered by the cold, red and swollen.

”Exactly, today your mom and I will deliver. We’ve delivered so many times; they know the quality of our work, they can’t make it difficult for us.” Mr. Qi followed out. He was around the same age as Mrs. Qi, with a slightly hunched back.

Yue Qin quickly stood up: ”Dad, Mom, let me go. If you two make this trip, your legs will hurt for many days again.”

”Creak...”

The large gate was pushed open, and a woman in her forties of medium build walked in: ”Oh my, everyone’s home, I came just at the right time, hahaha...”

”Sister-in-law, come in and sit.” Mrs. Qi ushered while placing a small stool next to Granny Qi.

”Sixth Aunt, you all chat, I’m going to deliver the goods.” Yue Qin said as she walked back into the house, ”Sister-in-law, I’m going to pack the goods.” Mr. Qi also spoke and went inside.

”Qinzi is diligent, there’s no one like her for miles around.” Sixth Aunt said as she sat on the stool, patting Granny Qi, ”Aunt, you’re really robust. My mom is younger than you and sits on the kang all day without coming down.”

”That’s from leaving postnatal sores. Sigh, women, if they leave puerperal illnesses, they last a lifetime.” Granny Qi said, pointing to Mrs. Qi, ”When my daughter-in-law was in her confinement period, I took good care of her.”

”Yes, having a mother-in-law like this is my good fortune.” Mrs. Qi said, looking at Sixth Aunt, ”Sister-in-law, you obviously have something to say, right?”

”Second Sister? Do you have something?” Sixth Aunt asked.

”Your Second Brother and I are thinking of delivering the goods; Qinzi’s hands, feet, and ears are all frostbitten. Sigh...” Mrs. Qi heaved a heavy sigh, ”If it weren’t for the elderly and the young in our family, she wouldn’t have to suffer so. Look at her, so young, what is she being made into?”
