Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1269 - 759: Confrontation at the Door (Part 2)

”Does the naughty girl still remember Grandpa?” Old Sir Luo quietly wiped the corner of his eye, his rough hand gently rubbing his granddaughter’s head, ”Ye’er has grown taller, Grandpa has to tiptoe just to reach you.”

There was a deep sense of melancholy in his words.

Luo Ye chuckled: ”Grandpa, I exercise every day, of course I grow fast, but don’t worry, I won’t grow as tall as Yao Ming.” As she spoke, she helped the old man down the stairs.

Just then, the doorbell rang, and Luo Ye reflexively glanced at the time: ”It’s past eleven, it should be Dad! I’ll go open the door and give him a little scare.”

Sister Li, who was about to open the door, quickly stopped in her tracks.

Luo Ye reached the doorway, but didn’t impulsively open the door; instead, she first pressed the display screen next to the door—a handsome young man appeared, and she turned to Wen Xin: ”Mom, I don’t recognize him, do you?”

Wen Xin took a couple of steps forward, looked closely, and nodded: ”It’s Jing Chen, the young master of Secretary Jing’s family.”

The guest waiting outside was not the time for idle chatter, so Luo Ye didn’t ask further, opened the door, and smiled politely: ”Hello, please come in.”

Jing Chen nodded lightly at her and turned to Wen Xin: ”Aunt, sorry for intruding.”

”Jing Chen, is there something you need?” Wen Xin asked with puzzlement, Luo Zhenggang wasn’t home, and he wasn’t one to visit casually, so she couldn’t understand why he would come at this time.

”It’s about her.” Jing Chen frowned slightly, pointing at Luo Ye.

His attitude already indicated an issue, but although she couldn’t think of any reason she would’ve offended him, given his status, she believed he wouldn’t accuse without cause. So, Luo Ye didn’t say anything, but looked at him inquisitively, waiting for his explanation.

Jing Chen sized up Luo Ye and asked, ”How old are you?”

”If you have something to say to me, please speak directly.” Luo Ye became impatient; she couldn’t stand nagging men.

Jing Chen’s attitude annoyed Wen Xin as well, so she quickly added, ”Jing Chen, Ye’er is my daughter, this is her first visit home this year, previously you didn’t have a chance to meet, could there be some misunderstanding?”

”Aunt, I know my visit like this may displease you, but my intentions are genuinely good, your daughter just drove in the yard at eighty kilometers per hour.

That’s irresponsible not only to herself, but also to others; many retired officials live in the compound, if anyone isn’t quick on their feet and something happens, it wouldn’t just cast a shadow on her life, but Uncle Luo’s as well.”

Wen Xin paused briefly, then hastily explained, ”Little Jing, Ye’er wasn’t right to do that, but she’s had her driver’s license for several years, her skills are absolutely solid, she rushed because she wanted to see her family quickly, and she did it under absolute confidence in her driving skills.”

Luo Ye glanced at her mom, her eyes misting over; she knew she was wrong to drive like that, no matter how great a driver she was, speeding in the compound was not appropriate, but at that time, her eagerness to return home was overwhelming, leading her to hit the gas.

Mom has really changed, before she would have surely scolded her a bit, but now, she defended her unconditionally; this familial support is truly... wonderful.

Jing Chen frowned and continued: ”Aunt, I’m not here just to meddle, I came out of concern for everyone, you know, given my father and Uncle Luo’s positions, I shouldn’t be here talking about this.

After weighing it over several times, I came because I don’t want her to suffer from this in the future; at her blooming age, it would be a pity to leave any blemishes.

With the internet increasingly prevalent, and public legal awareness growing, some matters can’t simply be suppressed as we wish.”

”You’re overthinking.” Luo Ye calmly looked at Jing Chen, ”Everything my mom said is true, I’m indeed at fault, but your presumptuous insistent attitude is really unnecessary.

Now, do you want me to express an attitude to you, or should my family express an attitude? If there’s a point, say it, but spare the sermon.”

Initially, Luo Ye wasn’t against Jing Chen’s actions, but after her mom spoke up, his excessive harping became over the top.

Mom is an elder after all, even with good intentions, say your piece and that’s it, look at him, lecturing both young and old, who does he think he is?

”I’m sorry, I’m meddling, Aunt Wen, goodbye.” Jing Chen shook his head helplessly, turned and walked out.

”Wait.”

It was Old Sir Luo speaking.

”Grandpa Luo, do you have any instructions?”

”Little Jing, come sit here.” Old Sir Luo pointed to the spot beside him, ”Grandpa has something to say to you, come sit down.”

Jing Chen hesitated for a moment, then walked over and sat next to Old Sir Luo.

Luo Ye and Wen Xin exchanged a glance and sat down opposite the two, Song Qiu and Dou Dou darted around to Luo Ye’s side, snuggling up closely.

Jing Chen was stunned for a moment, and then explained with a bitter smile: ”Grandpa, I’m really not targeting her, you see, she’s just a kid, right?”

Grandpa Luo nodded: ”She is a kid, but what she did wasn’t something a kid would do, Ye’er’s driving skills, there aren’t many in Ludong Province who are better than her.

What happened today, she indeed was wrong, but for a girl who trains year-round and can only visit home once or twice a year, it can be forgiven, right?”
