She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 243: Chapter 247: Who is the Turtle’s Grandson? Chapter 243: Chapter 247: Who is the Turtle’s Grandson? Xiao Liu laughed, “Captain Xu took leave to go back to his hometown, so your brother also took a few days off to come back.”

“No wonder! I bet my brother wanted to follow Living Yama back to his hometown, right?” Chen Huaying looked displeased with the fanatic admiration her brother had and said with a pout.

“Unfortunately, Captain Xu wouldn’t let him!”

“Serves him right! If I were Living Yama, I’d kick him out too.”

“No way!” Xiao Liu, fearing to embarrass the group of young ladies, greeted and went to find the senior leaders, vacating the place.

Only a few people remained in the room, the young ladies looking at each other and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Chen Huaying took a fruit from the fruit basket for everyone, “Don’t be shy, everyone, just have fun. Sheng Ning, you, go cook!”

Her dad was often away and her mom worked in geology, frequently in the mountains. So, as a child, Chen Huaying and her brother would scrounge for meals everywhere, and growing up, they mostly ate in the cafeteria. A proper homemade meal was rarely had until their grandfather retired and chores at home began to increase.

Even so, their house still used the least amount of cooking fire in the General Union Courtyard.

Helplessly, her grandfather also liked to scrounge for meals everywhere.

“Alright! Just wait for the meal to be ready!” Sheng Ning took off her cotton coat in the heated room and wore a white sweater, looking delicate and extremely charming.

Several people unconsciously swept their eyes over her figure, and their cheeks reddened. It wasn’t clear if the room was too hot, or they were just embarrassed by looking.

Sheng Ning put on an apron and entered the kitchen to find a rich selection of ingredients, including beef. This was a good find, something she hadn’t eaten since being reborn.

The kitchen counter was full of items, besides beef there were also cabbage, radishes, and a grass carp weighing three or four pounds.

Sheng Ning’s eyes lit up, such great ingredients that normal families couldn’t even eat them during the New Year.

Ah! Money and power certainly are nice things!

The cabinet had everything including oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, chili, and other seasonings. In the corner, there was a jar of pickled vegetables, perfect for making Suancai Yu.

Stew the fish head with tofu soup.

Beef was a precious item, and if cooking it, some thought had to be given, not just haphazardly cooked to waste the ingredients. Sheng Ning thought for a while and finally decided to split the beef in two. She made one portion of cabbage and beef vermicelli, a big plateful that was enough for many.

The remaining half would be made into sauced beef, an ideal dish to accompany drinks.

In the cabinet, there were also peanuts brought from the rural countryside, the drunken peanuts made last time at the War Wolf Rescue Team were good, so she decided to make another batch.

Peeling the radishes for sweet and sour radish skin and then making a braised radish dish.

Considering the elderly, she decided to make a final dish of West Lake beef soup.

With a plan in mind, Sheng Ning rolled up her sleeves, revealing her fair and tender arms, and began to skillfully prepare the ingredients.

Su Hai arrived home and saw two old men playing chess as soon as he entered, with Chen Yingjie standing with his arms crossed acting as the referee.

“That’s not valid!”

“Put it down, put it down!”

“I won’t put it down!”

“How old are you? Isn’t it shameful? Still wanting to take back your move.”

“Didn’t you take back a move last time? Which scoundrel did that?”

“It was you, scoundrel.”

“I think it was you, scoundrel.”

“You’re the scoundrel.”

“You’re the scoundrel!”

The two old men argued while playing chess, and Chen Yingjie looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. What had he done to deserve this? He finally got a few days off only to come back and be called scoundrel.
