She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 203: Chapter 204: No Messing Around Chapter 203: Chapter 204: No Messing Around The photo inside showed a young man in his prime who was smiling brightly.

Meng Ping immediately noticed the photo, and his previously drowsy eyes instantly cleared up.

Dad is looking at my brother’s photo again! He had thought countless times that it would have been better if his brother hadn’t died; he would rather have been the one to die than his brother.

He represented the hope of the Meng Family, a rising star, while he was just a wastrel, a second-generation heir.

“It’s… it’s nothing!” Meng Xingzhi quickly put away the photo, secretly hoping his younger son hadn’t seen it.

“Dad, stop hiding it!” said Meng Ping bluntly.

“You saw it?” Meng Xingzhi asked, a bit embarrassed.

“You take it out to look at it all the time, I can hardly miss it.”

“Hehe…” Meng Xingzhi laughed wistfully, “Your brother has been gone for two years now, time really flies.”

“It sure does, feels like just yesterday.” Meng Ping leaned against the doorframe, his head lowered as he aimlessly kicked with his left foot. “Dad, I heard you went to judge the women comrades’ competition?”

“Yes!” Meng Xingzhi knew this son very well, and knew exactly what he was getting at with his question. “Have you taken a liking to one of the women comrades? I told you not to mess around with relationships, why won’t you listen?”

“That’s the pot calling the kettle black.”

Meng Xingzhi’s face turned livid, “You little bastard, say that again?”

“Am I wrong? Didn’t you marry Su Yun?” Meng Ping had always been mischievous, a veritable Demon Lord of Mayhem. Ever since Su Yun married into the Meng family, he never showed her any good face. While Meng Fan was alive, he would courteously call her Aunt Su, but after Meng Fan’s death, he just called her by her name.

Meng Xingzhi had beaten him several times out of anger, but not only did he not change, he became even more unruly. Eventually, no one could do anything about him, and they let him be.

“You… you little bastard, are you trying to anger me to death? Your relationship with Su Yun and I is a normal blended family. We grew up together; how can it be the same?”

“It’s the same!” Meng Ping said straightforwardly. “When are you going to let me out? You’ve kept me locked up for so long.”

During the time he was caught back to the family compound, he caused plenty of trouble. He called over a gang of brothers who grew up with him in the compound, and they would stir up trouble here and there when idle. Just the other day, he even released an old leader’s parrot, causing the old leader to bombard the Provincial Rescue Center with calls, and Meng Xingzhi got an earful.

“Go, go, go… just leave tomorrow, I get annoyed just seeing you.” Unjustly scolded, Meng Xingzhi got so upset every time he saw this rascal that he wanted to beat him up. But it was useless; the more he beat him, the more rebellious the boy got. It’s likely that if he beat him today, the kid might just clean out the entire compound tomorrow.

It would be cleaner than if raiders had swept through.

“Dad, don’t worry, I promise I won’t bother you,” Meng Ping said mockingly, his goodbye looking somewhat comical.

“And you’re not allowed to flirt with the women comrades,” Meng Xingzhi felt as if he owed this son from a past life. Meng Fan had always made him proud, always needing to show off wherever he went. This kid was a complete embarrassment; everywhere he went, old friends would mock him.

“That’s not possible!” A rare serious expression appeared on Meng Ping’s handsome face. “I’m actually planning to find you a daughter-in-law! How can I get married without flirting with the women?”

“Really?” Meng Xingzhi looked at him in surprise. “Are you on the wrong medication today?”

“Of course it’s true.”
