She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 210: Chapter 212 Paying Together Chapter 210: Chapter 212 Paying Together “This one is cheaper,” the clerk said as she picked up the most common type and handed it to her without further comment. “Two yuan fifty per pound, and there’s a discount if you buy more.”

“Thank you!” Sheng Ning touched the texture and found it quite satisfactory. Although it couldn’t compare with wool, it was still fairly soft and comfortable, much better than what was available in the countryside.

Her father had only one sweater, which he had worn for many years. The cuffs and collar were worn out and had been mended repeatedly.

“What kind of discount?”

“Buy three pounds, get one free.”

Sheng Ning’s eyes lit up, her already delicate and beautiful face glowing even more.

Xu Qigang, watching silently, keenly noticed several sneaky glances around them. Then he squinted dangerously.

The effect was clear, the space around them quickly expanded to twice its size.

“I’ll take three pounds.”

She chose a navy blue, a blue, and a smoke gray.

All were colors that were more resistant to dirt, the blue one for An’an. She would definitely look good in it.

The clerk quickly weighed and packed the yarn, and Sheng Ning pulled out two five-yuan bills from her small cloth bag, ready to pay, when a large hand stopped her.

“I’ll take that yarn too,” Xu Qigang said, stopping Sheng Ning from paying, then held up five fingers. “Give me five pounds.”

The clerk immediately weighed out the wool yarn and handed it over.

“Let’s pay together.”

“No need, mine, I’ll pay myself!” Sheng Ning insisted. She had just received her salary this month, and together with what she had saved from her last trip home, she had a total of twenty yuan!

Xu Qigang gave her a cold look, “Of course I should pay for my wife.”

Sheng Ning’s face turned red at that, although she liked to tease him and take liberties with him when they were alone. But now the situation was different; they weren’t married yet, and it was certainly not right for her to spend his money.

“Who is your wife?” It wasn’t good to make a scene in public, and she didn’t dare to speak loudly, only softly objecting.

“Of course, you are!” Xu Qigang said decisively, leveraging his height advantage to block Sheng Ning and pay by himself.

Coming out of the supply store, Sheng Ning looked upset. She trailed a step behind Xu Qigang, her head lowered like a little wife who had been wronged.

Xu Qigang’s lips curved into a smile as they passed an alley and turned into it. Sheng Ning, not watching her path and simply following him, also turned.

The alley was secluded and narrow, rarely frequented by people. Sheng Ning turned into it and unexpectedly bumped into his arms. Thankfully, her thick winter clothes cushioned her, so it didn’t hurt. Just as she was about to step back, Xu Qigang wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her firm.

She looked up at him in surprise.

Had she just been teasing him in the car, and now it was his turn to tease her? For some reason, Sheng Ning felt a thrill of excitement.

What would Xu Qigang do next?

“What are you daydreaming about?” Xu Qigang tousled her hair, a hint of helplessness in his heart, his stern expression softening with the gesture.

She didn’t realize how much danger she was in, nor did she know how attractive she was to him. Being with her, he was constantly tense.

She giggled nervously, her crafty thoughts seemingly transparent to him. Recalling his domineering act just a while ago, she cleared her throat and sternly said, “I wanted to buy the yarn, and I wanted to pay for it myself. What you did was wrong.”

After all, they were not in any official relationship yet, and she didn’t want to casually spend a man’s money.
