The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign

Chapter 11: Chapter 11: A Forgotten Chant?

The second dose hit harder than the first.

Kael sat in Sophie’s meditation room, hands on his knees, eyes closed, as the Starwhisper Tea dissolved into his system like liquid lightning. His meridians hummed. His mana reservoir pulsed. Every fiber of his being felt alive in a way it never had before.

”Third dose tomorrow,” Sophie murmured from her position by the burner. ”Maren’s instructions say no more than one per day or you’ll burn out your sensitivity.”

”I heard you.”

”Will you... need anything else?”

”No.”

Sophie lingered for a moment then she left quietly, closing the door behind her.

Kael exhaled.

Then he began to meditate.

DAY ONE

The difference was immediate.

With the Starwhisper Tea amplifying his perception, Kael could see mana not as an abstract concept but as a living thing — threads of light weaving through the air, spiraling into the ground, pulsing in rhythm with something vast and unknowable.

He pulled those threads into his body and understood them.

Each thread had weight. Texture. Direction. Some were dense and sluggish — impure, contaminated by the environment. Others were thin and sharp — pure, almost painful to touch.

His gravity well cultivation method pulled everything indiscriminately. Pure and impure alike. Like drinking from a muddy river.

There’s a better way, he thought. There has to be.

He reached for the pure threads specifically, trying to filter out the impurities—

And something in his mind shifted.

His lips moved.

Words came out — not in Common, not in any language he recognized. Syllables that felt ancient, heavy, meaningful in a way that transcended translation.

”Vael neth kyran. Soth amyr ves.”

Kael’s eyes snapped open.

”What the hell was that?”

He hadn’t consciously chosen to speak.

The mana around him had reacted. The pure threads were moving toward him now.

Say it again, the System said. Its voice was different. Almost excited.

Kael hesitated.

Then he closed his eyes and let the words come.

”Vael neth kyran. Soth amyr ves.”

The pure mana accelerated. It flowed into his meridians like water finding its natural course — smooth, effortless, right. The impure threads were left behind, untouched, irrelevant.

His reservoir filled faster than it ever had.

DAY TWO

Kael skipped his normal training. He sat in the meditation room from dawn to dusk, repeating the chant in a low murmur, feeling his understanding of mana deepen with each cycle.

The words were changing. Evolving. Each repetition added subtle variations — a different emphasis here, a lengthened vowel there — as if his soul was remembering corrections to a song it had sung long ago.

By nightfall, he’d filled more mana in one day than the previous week combined.

[Unknown Mantra detected]

[Classification: Cultivation technique]

[Grade: ???]

[Analysis Incomplete — technique exceeds current scanning parameters]

Kael stared at the notification.

”Unknown grade?”

The System can only classify techniques up to Divine Grade, it explained. Whatever this is... it’s beyond that.

”From my past life.”

Likely. The fragment of soul that carries your previous memories must have embedded the technique in your consciousness. The Starwhisper Tea heightened your perception enough to access it.

”Can you analyze it further?”

Not yet. My scanning ability scales with your soul integrity. At 49%, I’m operating at limited capacity. As your soul heals, more information will become available.

Kael filed that away.

Another reason to pursue soul fragments.

DAY THREE

Sophie brought the third dose in silence.

She moved around the room with practiced efficiency — preparing the tea, monitoring the infusion, setting it beside him without a word. Her face was carefully blank, but Kael’s heightened perception saw everything.

The way her hands trembled when she passed near him.

The way her breathing quickened when his eyes lingered on her.

The way her thighs pressed together when he spoke.

He ignored it.

Not out of kindness — out of focus. The mantra was consuming him. Each repetition peeled back another layer of comprehension, revealing deeper truths about the nature of mana.

Mana wasn’t just energy. It was information. Every thread carried a record of where it had been, what it had touched, what forces had shaped it. Pure mana was mana that had been unshaped — raw potential, unmarked by the world’s interference.

Whoever he’d been in his past life, they’d known things that shouldn’t be possible.

On the fourth day of his closed door cultivation, Kael stopped sleeping.

Not intentionally. The mantra simply... replaced the need. Each cycle of chanting filled his body with energy that eliminated fatigue, sharpened his focus, and pushed his cultivation forward at a rate that should have been impossible.

Rank 6 barrier to Rank 7: crumbling.

He could feel it — the wall that had seemed insurmountable a week ago was now fragile as wet paper. A few more days. Maybe less.

[comprehension level: advanced]

[mana purity absorption rate: +340%]

[estimated breakthrough window: 36-48 hours]

DAY FIVE

The chant had become automatic. Kael no longer needed to consciously form the words — his lips moved on their own, a constant low murmur that filled the meditation room like white noise.

Sophie entered with food he didn’t eat and water he didn’t drink.

She sat beside him for hours, watching his face, saying nothing.

Her love was a physical weight in the room.

On the sixth day of his closed door cultivation, he finally had a breakthrough.

The barrier shattered.

Kael’s eyes flew open as mana flooded his reservoir in a single catastrophic surge. The room shook. The meditation pads cracked beneath him. Silver lightning erupted from his body in spiraling arcs that left scorch marks on the walls.

[Breakthrough complete]

[Realm: Mana gathering — rank 7]

[Reservoir expansion: +41%]

[Meridian purity: Significantly improved]

[Gravity manipulation: Novice iv → Apprentice i]

[Lightning manipulation: Novice ii → Novice iii]

Kael gasped for air.

The world looked different again. He could see individual mana threads from across the room, could track their paths like rivers on a map, could sense the faint residue of power in the walls where he’d accidentally scorched them.

And the mantra...

He stopped chanting.

The words faded from his lips, but the knowledge remained. Etched into his soul like a scar that wouldn’t heal. He could start again at any moment, could pick up exactly where he’d left off.

That technique is permanent, the System confirmed. It’s part of you now.

”What is it called?”

[Mantra of the Void Sovereign]

[Grade: Legendary — Incomplete]

[Description: a cultivation technique that identifies and absorbs only the purest mana, accelerating growth while maintaining meridian integrity. Current comprehension: 12%. Full comprehension would allow—]

Error. Information restricted. Soul integrity insufficient.

Kael filed away the name.

Void Sovereign. His past self had cultivated techniques with names like that. Whoever he’d been, he hadn’t been ordinary.

[Breakthrough rewards distributed]

[Shadow points: +300]

[New unlock: Enhanced Mana Sight — passive ability to perceive mana flows at extended range]

[Technique manual added to Shadow shop: void body refinement — 2000 shadow points]

Void Body Refinement?

A technique that purifies the physical body using void mana. Complements the Mantra of the Void Sovereign. Together, they would—

Error. Information restricted.

Kael sighed.

More locked content. More walls behind soul integrity.

Then a new notification appeared.

[New quest generated]

[Quest: the seventh wife’s devotion]

[Sophie Mann’s love meter: 75/100]

[Objective: Bring love meter to 100/100]

[Reward: shadow manipulation (Novice I), void storage expansion (+50%), 500 shadow points]

[Hidden reward: ???]

[Failure consequence: None]

[Time limit: None]

[Note: She is already yours. You simply need to take her.]

Kael stared at the quest.

Then at the love meter.

Seventy-five.

Damn, that’s a lot, He thought/

She’s already yours. You simply need to take her.

He closed the notification.

”Sophie,” he murmured.

The door opened immediately — she’d been waiting outside.

”Yes?”

Kael stood.

His silver-flecked eyes caught the dim light.

”Come here.”

She stepped forward, trembling.

He reached out and touched her cheek.

”We need to talk.”
